    SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE

    The core products of Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) is the culture itself. This award -winingattraction is a cultural microcosm of the entire state. Dubbed as a living museum, the villageshowcases the life style and traditinal dwellings of the major ethnic groups in Sarawak.Located at Pantai Damai, Santubong, just 32km from the state capital, Kuching, it is the

    perfect place to get introduced to local culture and lifestyle.

    Sprawled across 17 acres, there are about 150 people living in the village, demonstratingtraditional daily activities from Sarawak's diverse tribes like the processing of sago and themaking of handicrafts. They wear traditional costumes and also put on dances for visitors.

    The village residents provide information on their various traditional cult ures and lifestyles.

    Sarawak Cultural Village is a great destination for families, as it offers a hands -on experienceof Sarawak. If you are just on a short vacation visiting the village is a good way of getting ageneral overview of Sarawak's culture and traditions.

    The facilitating products of SCV are the tribal houses. These are also the main attraction ofSCV. There are 7 tribal houses here-Bidayuh Longhouse, Iban Longhouse, Orang UluLonghouse, Melanau Tallhouse, Penan Hut, Malay Townhouse and Chinese Farmhouse. Atthese tribal houses, visitors may witness handicraft demonstrations or participate in the tribalgames and dances. In addition, household chores, rituals and ceremonies are perf ormed

    within and around the houses.

    At the modern cultural theatre, visitors may watch the beautiful cultural dances performed bythe young and exuberant dancers. This cultural show is held twice a day (11:30am/4pm). Atthese 45 minute shows you will be in troduced to different dances and music performed in

    traditional clothing and costumes.

    There is also a restaurant at the Sarawak Cultural Village to serve a selection of refreshing

    drinks, pastries, fruits and traditional Sarawakian food .

    They also provide accomodation here whether the Theme Village Style that consist Bidayuh

    Longhouse, Iban Longhouse, Orang Ulu Longhouse and Melanau Tallhouse .

    The supporting products of SCV is the handicraft shop that offers local handicrafts andsouvenirs. The handicraft is both bewildering and tempting, including the Kain Songket(Malay cloth with gold inlay), Pua Kumbu (Iban housewives textiles), Melanau Terendak(sunhat), Bidayuh tambok (basket), Iban parang (swords), Orang Ulu wood carving and

    Chinese ceramics.

    There is now a new, modern stone Sculpture Park located in the internationally acclaimedSCV, the modern stone sculptures are a legacy of the first Batu Sarawak.

    Also there are married ceremonies held in the finest traditions of one of the ethnic trib es ofSarawak. Choose from Iban (Sea Dayak), Bidayuh (Land Dayak), Orang Ulu and Malay.

    The ritual and costumes adopted in each of the four wedding packages are authentic and

    each has its own special charm and appeal.

    Another is Tuku Kame-Sarawakian Band. Tuku Kame combines the traditional Sarawakianinstruments of thirty ethnic races residing on the Island of Borneo played in contemporarytunes to create an infectious and exciting new sound.

    One of most important supporting products is The Rainforest World Music Festival. Thisfestival is a unique festival that brings together on the same stage renowned world musiciansfrom all continents and indigenous musicians from the interiors of the mythical island of

    Borneo.
