Samsung Ubigate iBG Router Setup

Use this document to set up Avaya Communication Manager and Avaya SIP Enablement Services (SES) to work with the Samsung Ubigate iBG™ family of routers. Communication Manager and SIP Enablement Services are Avaya MultiVantage™ communications telephony applications. This document outlines the screens and fields that must be administered in Communication Manager so that Communication Manager can work with the Samsung Ubigate iBG router.

Avaya Communication Manager Avaya Communication Manager is an open, scalable, highly reliable and secure telephony application. Communication Manager organizes and routes voice, data, image and video transmissions. It can connect to private and public telephone networks, ethernet LANs, ATM networks, and the Internet. Communication Manager solves business challenges by powering voice communications and by integrating with value-added applications. Communication Manager provides user and system management functionality, intelligent call routing, application integration and extensibility, and enterprise communications networking.

Session Initiation Protocol Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an endpoint-oriented signaling standard that is defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). SIP is a text-based protocol based on elements of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). SIP supports several types of communication sessions that include voice, video, and instant text messaging.

Avaya SIP Enablement Services Avaya SIP Enablement Services (SES) combines the standard functions of a SIP proxy or registrar server with SIP trunking support and duplicated server features. This combination creates a highly scalable, highly reliable SIP communications network supporting telephony, instant messaging, conferencing, and collaboration solutions.

Adding a SIP trunk group

Tip:Tip: To get analog telephones to work with the Samsung Ubigate iBG router, analog

telephones must be set up in Communication Manager as SIP telephones. Avaya strongly suggests that you create a separate trunk group for all users of analog telephones. That way, you can more easily trace and isolate any problems that might occur. For more information on setting up an analog telephone, see Adding stations on page 12.

You now need to add SIP trunk groups.

1. Type add trunk-group next. Press Enter. The system displays the Trunk Group screen and assigns the next available trunk group number (Trunk Group screen on page 9).

8. In the Number of Members field, type the number of members that you wish to use for this trunk group.

Tip:Tip: The maximum number of trunk group members in any one signaling group is 255.

The maximum number of total members is based upon your license agreement. If you have more than 255 trunk group members in a signaling group, you must create additional signaling groups.

9. Accept the default values on the remaining fields.

10. Click Enter to save your changes.

Setting up SIP Enablement Services You now need to administer SIP Enablement Services (SES). The primary steps that you need to set up are:

● Adding a Media Server Extension

● Adding Users

Tip:Tip: Avaya suggests that you use the extension number of each user to populate the

Primary Handle field on the SES Add User screen. The primary handle information is used in other screens. By using the extension as the primary handle, any problems can more easily be traced back to the telephone.

! Important:Important: For each new user that you add, make sure that the Add Media Server

Extension field at the bottom of the Add User screen is checked.

● Editing the Media Server Map Entry

This document does not go into the specific steps to accomplish these tasks. These tasks are explained in the Installing and Administering SIP Enablement Services Release 3.1.1, 03-600768. You can find this document at www.avaya.com/support.

Setting up trunks

Issue 3 April 2007 15

Setting up trunks The next step in this process is to add trunks – such as SIP trunks – that are physically attached to the Samsung Ubigate iBG router. This process allows the iBG router to perform a gateway function that provides an interface to these trunks.

Note:Note: This administration is for trunks only, not the Communication Manager

connection to the SES Server.

A brief explanation

Communication Manager uses the Far-end Domain field on the Signaling Group screen to construct the SIP INVITE that is sent to the far end. The signaling group that we set up to connect Communication Manager to the SES (Adding a signaling group on page 7) applies to any SIP INVITE that is sent to SES.For example, if you call extension 12345 and that extension is a SIP telephone on the SES server, Communication Manager sends the INVITE to the SES server with the To field set to 12345@<far-end-domain-field>.

Note:Note: The <far-end-domain-field> is the value that is entered in the Far-end Domain

field on the Signaling Group screen.

If the SES server receives an INVITE for a domain that it does not control, SES must forward that INVITE to the correct place. By setting the Far-end Domain field to always be in the format “trunk-group-label.far-end-domain-field,” SES always sends the call to the iBG router instead of sending the call to the local station. The same is true of the reverse, using the original Far-end Domain field for all trunk groups on the iBG router. This is accomplished by adding a DNS entry, using the value in the Far-end Domain field, and pointing it to the IP address of the iBG router. See the second bullet item below.Without telling the SES server that this call is not local to it, the INVITE never completes to the iBG router. Even if the INVITE did complete, if the iBG has more than one trunk to the PSTN, it must know to which trunk to send the INVITE.Before you begin, make sure that you have:

● Completed the trunk group configuration on the iBG router. This configuration is where you obtain the Trunk Group Label that you will need later in this process.

● Made a Domain Name Service (DNS) server entry that resolves the Trunk Group Label to the signaling IP address on the iBG router. This entry is mapping names to IP addresses.

Both of these procedures are outside the scope of this document.

Page 16: Samsung Ubigate iBG Router Setup - Avaya · Samsung Ubigate iBG Router Setup 8 Samsung Ubigate iBG Router Setup Figure 2: Signaling Group screen 2. In the Group Type field, type or

16 Samsung Ubigate iBG Router Setup

Adding another signaling group The first signaling group that you set up (see Adding a signaling group on page 7) was to administer the connection between Communication Manager and the SES server that the Samsung Ubigate iBG router is connected to.Now you need to ensure that any SIP INVITE messages are forwarded to the iBG router. To do that, you need to set up another signaling group. You need to configure the Far-end Domain field on the Signaling Group screen in the format <trunk-group-label>.<far-end-domain-field>.

Note:Note: For every trunk group that you set up, you must also set up a separate signaling

group.

To create a signaling group that identifies the iBG router as the recipient of SIP INVITE messages for our example SIP:

1. Type add signaling-group next. Press Enter. The system displays the Signaling Group screen and assigns the next available number (Signaling Group screen on page 16).

Figure 8: Signaling Group screen

2. In the Group Type field, type or select sip.

3. Make sure that the value in the Transport Method field is set to tls.

4. In the Near-end node Name field, type the name of either the Processor Ethernet or CLAN circuit pack to which the SES server registers.

5. In the Far-end node Name field, type the name of the SES server that you created in the Setting up a node name procedure.

6. In both the Near-end Listen Port and Far-end Listen Port fields, type 5061.

7. In the Far-end Network Region field, type a network region number if your system is divided into network regions. This number should be the network region that the SES server is placed.

8. In the Far-end Domain field, type the domain name.

! Important:Important: The format for the Far-end Domain field must be: the trunk group label in the iBG

router for that particular trunk, followed by a dot (.), followed by the SIP domain name in SES. For example, if the trunk group label is loop-start1, and the SIP domain name in SES is usae.wherever.com, then the value that you type in the Far-end Domain field is loop-start1.usae.wherever.com.

9. Make sure that the Far-end Domain field resolves in the DNS server to the Control Interface in the iBG router. Otherwise, calls cannot complete through the iBG router.

For an example how to set up and configure Microsoft DNS service, see the following site: www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/winntas/deploy/install.mspx?mfr=true.

10. Accept the default values on the remaining fields.

11. Click Enter to save your changes.

Adding a trunk You must now set up the individual trunk groups that Communication Manager can process through the Samsung Ubigate iBG router. For an example, we will set up a SIP trunk.

1. Type add trunk-group next. Press Enter. The system displays the Trunk Group screen and assigns the next available trunk group number (Trunk Group screen on page 18).

4. In the TAC field, type a valid number that fits your dial plan. For more information about dial plans in Communication Manager, see the Administrator Guide for Avaya Communication Manager, 03-300509, at www.avaya.com/support.

5. In the Service Type field, type or select tie.

6. In the Number of Members field, type a number that is equal to or less than the maximum number of physical circuits for that trunk on the iBG router.

For example, if you have an ISDN PRI trunk on the iBG router that has 23 B channels, the number of members in the Number of Members field can be no more than 23. If you have a CO trunk on the iBG router, the number of members in the Number of Members field can be no more than 1.

Issue 3 April 2007 19

Synchronizing dial plan changes Whenever you make changes to your dial plan in Communication Manager, you also need to synchronize those changes with the Samsung Ubigate iBG router.

Note:Note: The SES server automatically synchronizes with Communication Manager early

every day, but the iBG router does not synchronize unless you follow this procedure.

1. Make the necessary dial plan changes in Communication Manager.

2. Log into the SES server and get to a Linux command prompt.

3. From the Linux command prompt, type service ppm restart. Press Enter. This command restarts the PPM service and requests a new updated dial plan from Communication Manager.

4. Navigate to the SES Administration web interface on the iBG router home SES server.

5. Once at the Administration web interface, click Users, then click Show Registered Users.

6. From the screen that the system displays, either search for the registered iBG router, or search for every registered user.

7. On the search results screen, place a checkmark next to one or more of the iBG registered users.

8. At the bottom of the search results screen, click Reload.

The Reload command causes the SES server to send a message to the iBG router to download the dial plan changes.
