Radio frequency exposure information

In August 1996, the Federal CommunicationsCommisision (FCC) of the U.S. adopted an updatedsafety standard for human exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic energy emitted by FCCregulated transmitters. The design of this phonecomplies with the FCC guidelines and thosestandards.

To maintain compliance with FCC RF exposureguidelines, if you wear a handset on your body, usethe Samsung-supplied or approved carrying case,holster, or other body-worn accessory.

If you do not use a body-worn accessory, ensure theantenna is at least 1.5cm from your body whentransmitting. Use of non-approved accessories may

violate FCC RF exposure guidelines.

Display Layout

The display comprises three areas.

Icons

Area Description

First line Displays various icons (see opposite).

M iddle lines Display messages, instructions and

any information that you enter(number to be dialed, for example).

Last line Shows the funct ions current lyassigned to the two soft keys.Orshows various types of information,such as missed calls or the keypadlock icon ( ). This information

varies, depending on your SIM card,service provider or current context.

Signal strength: shows the receivedsignal strength. The greater the numberof bars, the better the signal strength.

Vibrator on/Silent mode on: appearswhen the Vibrate mode or Silent modeis active.

Backlight

The display and keypad are illuminated by abacklight. When you press any key, the backlightcomes on.To specify the length of time for w hich the backlightis active, set the Backlight menu option (4-1-5); seepage 78 for further details.

Service Light

There are several cases in which the service lightflashes.

When in service.To activate or deactivate the service light, set theServi ce Ligh t menu option (4-1-6); see page 79.To select the color of the service light, set t heServi ce Li ght Color menu option (4-5); see page90.

When an SM S message is received (the light isorange, only if the Messa ge Ton e (3-7) is set toLight only.).

When the alarms ring.

When you receive a call.To change the color, set the phonebook LED Col oroption; see page 45.

Getting Started

Installing the SIM Card and the Battery

When you subscribe to a cellular network, you areprovided with a SIM card loaded with your subscription

details (PIN, optional services available and so on).

Keep all SIM cards out of t he reach of smallchildren.

The SIM card and its contacts can be easily

damaged by scratches or bending, so be carefulwhen handling, inserting or removing the card.

Before install ing the SIM card, always make surethat t he phone is swi tched off before removing thebattery.

1. If necessary, switch off the phone by holdingdown until the closing animation is displayed.

2. Remove the battery. To do so: Press and hold down the catch above the

battery on the back of the phone Slide the battery away, as shown

3. Slide the SIM card holder in the direction of thearrow and hold it in this position.

4. Insert the SIM card under the tw o tabs, ensuringthat the cut corner is lower left and the gold

contacts of the card face into the phone.

Note: If you need to remove the SIM card, carefullyslide the SIM card lock back and take the cardout of the holder.

5. Hold the SIM card down and release the holder tolock it into place.

6. Place the battery back on the phone. Slide the

battery up towards the catch until it locks intoplace. Make sure that the battery is properly

installed before switching on the power.

Charging a Battery

Your phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion

battery. A travel adapter is provided with your phone.Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your

local SAMSUNG dealer for further details.

The phone can be used while the batt ery is charging.

Note: You must fully charge the battery before usingyour phone for the first t ime. A dischargedbattery is fully recharged in approximately

120 minutes.1. With the battery in position on the phone connect

the lead from the t ravel adapter to the bottom of

the phone. Check that the arrow on the lead

connector is facing towards the front of the phone.

2. Connect the adapter to a standard AC wall outlet.

When the battery is charging, the battery iconin the top right-hand corner of the display fil ls

repeatedly.

Note: Do not remove the battery from the phonewhile the travel adapter is connected to thephone.

3. When charging is finished, disconnect the adapter

from the power outlet and from the phone bypressing the grey tabs on both sides of theconnector and pulling the connector out.

Low Battery Indicator

When the battery is weak and only a few minutes oftalk time remain, you will hear a warning tone and a

message will be repeated at regular intervals on the

display:

When the battery becomes too weak for the phone

to operate, the phone switches off automatically.

4. When you wish to switch the phone off, hold

down for more than two seconds.

Sw itching the Phone On/ Off

1. Hold down for more than one second to

switch the phone on.Note: If Insert SIM Card appears on the display,

please check that the SIM card is correctlyinserted. The phone requires a 3 V SIM card.Please contact your service provider if youexperience any problems.

2. If the phone asks for a password, key in the

password and press the OK soft key. The phone

password is factory set to 0000. For further

details, see page 103.

3. If the phone asks for a PIN, key in the PIN and

press the OK soft key. For further details, seepage 104.

The phone searches for your network and when i t

finds it, the idle screen, illustrated below, is

displayed.

Note: The display language is determined by theSIM card inserted. To change the language,use the Language menu option (4-1-3); forfurther details, refer to page 77.

Making a Call

When the idle screen is displayed, key in the areacode and phone number and press .

Note: If you have set the Auto Redial option (4-1-7) toON (see page 79) and the person called does notanswer or the line is busy, the number isredialed automatically up to ten times.

Making International Calls

1. Press and hold down the key.The + international prefix appears.

2. Key in the country code, area code and phonenumber and press .

Making a Call from the Phonebook

You can store the names and phone numbers of the

people you call regularly in the SIM card memory,called the phonebook. You then simply select therequired name to recall the associated number. Forfurther details on t he Phonebook feature, refer topage 41.

You can also quickly dial the numbers stored in SIMlocations 2 to 9, simply by holding down the

corresponding number key.

Redialing the Last Number

The phone stores the last 10 numbers dialed. Torecall any of these numbers, proceed as follows.

1. If there are any characters on the display, pressthe key to return to the idle mode.

2. Press the key to access the list of the lastnumbers dialed.

3. Use the and keys to scroll through thenumbers until the required number is displayed.

4. Press the key to dial the number displayed.

Answ ering or Rejecting a Call

When somebody calls you, the phone rings and the

phone icon in the middle of the screen flashes.

If t he caller can be identified, the callers phonenumber (or name if stored in your phonebook) isdisplayed. If the caller cannot be identified, only thephone icon flashes.

Answering a Call

There are two ways to answer an incoming call. Press the Accept soft key, or key.

When the Any-Key Answer menu option is set t oON, press any key, except or the Reject softkey.

Rejecting a Call

To reject a call, press or the Reject soft key.

Adjusting the Volume

During a call, i f you w ish to adjust the earpiece

volume, use the or keys.

In idle mode, you can access the Write Messagesmenu option by using the key.With the key, you can view the PhoneBook li stsdirectly f rom idle mode.

Editing a Missed Call Number

1. Press the Options soft key.

2. Press or to highlight the Paste option.

3. Press the Select soft key.

4. Change the number as required. Press orto move back through the number.

5. To... Then press the...Call the number key.

Deleting a Missed Call


2. Press or to highlight the Delete option.

3. Press the Select soft key.

You can press at any time to exit the M issed Callfeature.

Note: You can access the M issed Call feature at anytime by selecting the M issed Calls menu option(1-1); for further details, see page 59.

Viewing Missed Calls

If you are unable to answer a call for any reason, you

can find out who was calling you, provided that thisservice is available. In this way, you can call theperson back, if necessary.

The number of missed calls is displayed on the idlescreen immediately after t he call was missed.

To view the missed call immediately, proceed asfollows.

1. Press the View soft key.

The number corresponding to the most recentmissed call is displayed, if available.

In-Call Options

Your phone provides a number of control functions

that you can use during a call. To access thesefunctions during a call, press the Options soft key.

Switching the Microphone Off (Mute)

You can temporarily switch your phones microphoneoff, so that t he other party cannot hear you.

Example: You wish to say something to anotherperson in the room but do not want theother party to hear you.

To switch the microphone off temporarily, proceed asfollows.


2. Press or to highlight the Mute option.3. Press the OK soft key.

Your correspondent can no longer hear you.

To switch the microphone back on, proceed asfollows.

1. Press the Options soft key.2. Press or to highl ight the Unmute

option.

3. Press the OK soft key.

Your correspondent can hear you again.

Searching for a Number in the Phonebook

You can search for a number in the phonebook duringa call.


2. Press or to highl ight the Phonebookoption.


4. Enter the start of the name that you wish to findand press the Find soft key.

Note: You can also scroll through the phonebookfrom the beginning, by pressing the Findsoft key directly.

The phonebook entries are listed, starting w iththe fi rst entry matching your input. This entry isalso highlighted.

5. To view the highl ighted entry, press the View softkey.

Putting a Call on Hold

You can place the current call on hold whenever youwant. You can make another call while you have a

call in progress if this service is supported by thenetwork. Of t hese two calls, one is active and theother is on hold and you can swap between the calls.

To place a call on hold, press the Options soft key,and select the Hold option. You can reactivate thecall w henever you want, by pressing the Retrievesoft key.

To make a call while you have a call in progress,proceed as follow s.

1. Key in the phone number that you wish to dial orlook it up in the phonebook.

2. Press to dial the second call.The fi rst call i s automatically put on hold.

Or al ternatively, proceed as follows.

1. Put the current call on hold by pressing theOptions soft key and selecting the Hold option.

2. M ake the second call in the normal way.

To swap betw een the tw o calls, simply press the

Swap soft key.The current call is placed on hold and the call onhold is reactivated so that you can continueconversing w ith the other party.

When you have finished, end each call normally bypressing .

Answ ering a Second Call

You can answer an incoming call while you have acall in progress, if this service is supported by the

network and you have set the Call Waiting menuoption (4-2-2) to Activate (see page 84). You will benotified of an incoming call by a call waiting tone.

To answer a call while you have a call in progress,proceed as follow s.

1. Press to answer the incoming call.The fi rst call i s automatically put on hold.

2. To swit ch between the tw o calls, press the Swapsoft key.

To end a held call, press the Options soft key andselect the End held cal l option.

3. To end the current call, press .You are automatically switched back to any heldcalls.

Making a Multiparty Call

A multiparty call is a network service that allowsup to six people to take part simultaneously in a

multiparty or conference call. For more information,contact your service provider.

Setting up the M ultiparty Call

1. Call the first participant in the normal way.

2. Call the second parti cipant in the normal way.The fi rst call i s automatically put on hold.

3. To join the first participant to the multiparty call,press the Options soft key and select t he Joinoption.

4. To add a new person to the multiparty call, callthe person in the normal way, then press theOptions soft key and select the Join option.

You can add incoming callers by answering the calland pressing Options, followed by Join. Repeat asrequired.

Having a Private Conversation With One

Participant

1. Press the Options soft key and choose theSelect one option.The list of call participants appears.

2. Highlight the required person, by pressingor , followed by .

3. Select Private.

Now you can talk privately w ith that person. Theother participants can continue to converse wi theach other.

4. To return to the multiparty call, press the Options

soft key and select Join.All the multiparty call participants can now heareach other.

Dropping One Partic ipant

1. Press the Options soft key and choose theSelect one option.The list of call participants appears.

2. Highlight the required person, by pressingor , followed by .

3. Select the Remove soft key.

The call is ended wi th that participant, but youcan continue to talk with the other participants.

4. End the mult iparty call by pressing .

M uting/ Sending Key Tones

These options allow you to turn the key tones off oron. If the Mute keys option is selected, your phonedoes not transmit the key tones.

Using the SMS Service

If you receive an SMS (Short Message Service)message during a call, the message icon ( )appears in the display.

After you have finished your call, you can read themessage; refer t o page 63 for further details.

Note: You can also read or wr ite a new SMS

message during a call.

Entering Text

When storing a name in the phonebook, creatingyour personal greeting or scheduling events in your

calendar, you wi ll need to enter text.You are provided with the following text inputmodes.

T9 mode

This mode allows you to enter w ords wit h only onekeystroke per letter. Each key on the keypad has

more than one let ter when you press the keyonce, J, K or L may be displayed. The T9 modeautomatically compares your keystrokes with aninternal l inguistic dictionary to determine the correctword, thus requiring far f ewer keystrokes than thetraditional ABC mode.

ABC mode

This mode allows you to enter let ters by pressing thekey labelled with the required letter once, twice orthree times until the letter is displayed.

Number mode

This mode allows you to enter numbers.

Symbolic mode

This mode allows you to enter special characters.

Changing the Text Input Mode

1. When you are in a field that allows characters tobe entered, you will notice the text input modeindicator in the lower right corner of the display.

3. Scroll to the required mode, then press the Selectsoft key.

Using the T9 Mode

The T9 predictive text input mode allow s you to enterwords easily w ith a minimum of key presses. As you

press each key, the phone selects a letter that makesup the word that i t t hinks you are typing, based on abuilt-in dictionary. As a new letter is added, the wordchanges based on the key that you have pressed.

1. When you are in the T9 predict ive text inputmode, start entering a word by pressing keysto . Press each key only once for one let ter.

Example: to enter HELLO in the T9 English mode,press , , , and .

The word that you are typing appears in the display.It may change with each key that you press.

2. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting

any keystrokes.3. If the word is correct, start entering the next

word.

Otherw ise, press repeatedly to displayalternate word choices for the keys that you havepressed.

Example: OF and ME both share the sequence, . The phone displays the

most commonly used choice first.

4. Complete each word with a space by pressingthe key.

To type words not found in the T9 mode, change thetext input mode to the ABC mode.

Phonebook

You can store phone numbers and their correspon-ding names in the memory of your SIM card. Inaddition, you can store up to 100 numbers and

names in the phone memory. The SIM card andphone memories, although physically separate, areused as if t hey were a single entity, called thephonebook.

Storing a Phone Number with a Name

As soon as you start to enter a number, Saveappears above the left soft key to allow you to storethe number in the phonebook.

1. Key in the number to be stored.

Notes: If you make a mistake while entering a number,

correct it using the !soft key or . Forfurther details, refer to page 22.

To insert a dialing pause for special phoneservices, such as banking by phone, hold down

. P is displayed to indicate the pause.

2. When you are sure that the number is correct,press the Save soft key.

3. Enter the corresponding name (the maximumlength depends on your SIM card). For information

on how to enter a name, see page 35.

4. When you are satisfied, press the Save soft key.The phone now displays the first free location inthe last memory used to save a number andname. If that memory is full, the first free location

in the other memory is displayed.

Using the Number Mode

The Number mode enables you to enter numbers in atext message (a telephone number, for example).Press the keys corresponding to the required digits

before manually switching back to the appropriatetext entry mode.

Using the Symbolic M ode

The Symbolic mode enables you to enter varioussymbols.

Edit

Allows you to edit a number and name stored in thephonebook.

Erase

Allows you to erase a number and name stored inthe phonebook.

You are asked to confirm that you wish to erase thename and number from the phonebook by pressing

the Yes soft key.

Copy

Allows you to copy a phonebook number to another

location. Use this option to store a number similar to

one already in memory; once copied, edit t he numberand store it in another location on the SIM card or in

the phone memory.

Memory Status

This option allows you to check how many names andphone numbers are stored and how many locations

are still free in the card memory and phone memory.

Alert

This option allows you to assign a specific ringing

tone to a number and thus distinguish the caller by

the ringing tone. Specific ringing tones can beassigned to up to f ive numbers.

LED Color

This option allows you to assign a specif ic servicelight color to a number and thus distinguish the caller

by the service light color.

Four colors are available (normal, red, violet andblue) and they can be assigned to up t o fi ve numbers.

If no specific color is assigned, the service light

flashes with the color you set in Service LightColor option (4-5).

Speed-Dialing by SIM Memory Location

Once you have stored phone numbers in the SIMcard, you can dial them easily whenever required.

To speed-dial a number, proceed as follows.

Accessing M enu Functions by Scrolling

Outgoing Calls Menu 1-3

This option lets you view the last 10 numbers dialed.You can also: Edit the number and save it in the phonebook Redial the number Delete the number from the list

Call Time Menu 1-4

This option lets you view the timers for calls madeand received. The following timers are available.

Last Call : length of the last call.

Total Outgoing: total length of all calls made sincethe timer was last reset.

Total Incoming: total length of all calls received

since the timer was last reset.

Reset Timers: option used to reset the call timers;you must f irst enter t he phone password (seepage 103) and then press the OK soft key.

Note: The actual time invoiced for calls by yourservice provider may vary, depending on

network features, rounding-off for billingpurposes and so forth.

Call Cost (SIM Card Dependent) Menu 1-5

Note: The options of this menu may vary, dependingon your SIM card.

This network feature lets you view t he cost of calls.The following options are available.

Last Cal l Cost: cost of the last call made.

Total Cost: total cost of all calls made since the costcounter was last reset. If the total cost exceeds themaximum cost set via t he Set M ax Cost option, youwill no longer be able to make any calls, except callsto the emergency services, until you reset thecounter.

M ax Cost: maximum cost set via t he Set M axCost option (see below).

Reset Counters: option used to reset the cost

counter; you must first enter your PIN2 (seepage 104) and then press the OK soft key.

Set M ax Cost: option used to enter the maximumcost that you authorise for your calls. You must firstenter your PIN2 (see page 104) and then press theOK soft key.

Price/Unit: option used to set t he cost of one unit;this price per unit is applied when calculating thecost of your calls. You must first enter your PIN2(see page 104) and then press the OK soft key.

Note: AOC (Advice Of Charge) information may bedisplayed in idle mode, depending on your SIMcard or service provider.

Messages

Your phone receives voice mail notif ication messages,and text messages. Voice mail and the Short M essage

Service (SMS) are network services. Please contact yourservice provider for more information.

When the icon appears, you have received new textmessages. If the M essa ge Ton e menu option (3-7) isset to Light only, the service light flashes orange.When the icon appears, you have received voicemail. If the message memory is full, an error message isdisplayed, the icon flashes and you cannot receiveany new messages. Use the Delete option in the ReadMessages menu (2-2) to delete obsolete messages.

Picture and ringing tone messages can also be received.

Cut Number: allows you to extract a number fromthe message text, so that you can call the number or

save it in the phonebook.Send: allows you to send a message that you havenot already sent.

Send again: allows you to resend a message thatyou have already sent.

message status (new, old, not sent, sent).

Write Messages Menu 2-3

Note: In idle mode, you can directly access the Wri teMessages menu option by pressing the key.

Via this menu, you can wri te and edit text messages ofup to 160 characters.

2. After you complete the message, you can select the

Send Only: allows you to send the messageimmediately. You can enter the requireddestination.

Save and Send: allows you to save a copy of themessage and then send the message to the

required destination. You can read the messageusing the Read M essages option. When you readthe message, Sent is displayed to indicate themessage state.

Save Only: allows you to save the message sothat it can be sent later. When you read themessage, Not sent is displayed.

Preset Message List Menu 2-4

There are five preset messages available. This menushows the preset message list. Scroll t hrough the l ist

using the or keys. When the requiredmessage number appears, press the Options softkey.

The following options are available.

Edit: allows you to write a new message or edit theselected preset message.

Note: For further information on how to enter text inyour message, refer to page 35.

Send Message: allows you to recall the selectedpreset message. Once you have completed themessage, you can send, save and send, or simply saveit .

Delete: allows you to delete the selected presetmessage.

Setup Menu 2-5

Via this menu, you can set up default SMSinformation.

Service Center: allows you to store or change thenumber of your SMS center required when sendingtext messages. You must obtain this number fromyour service provider.

Default Type: allows you to set t he default messagetype (Text, Voice, Fax, X400, Email, and ERMES). Thenetwork can convert the messages into the selectedformat.

Default Validity: allows you to set the length oftime for which your text messages will be stored atthe SMS center while attempts are made to deliverthem to the recipient.Possible values are one hour, 6 hours, 24 hours, oneweek and the maximum authorised by your serviceprovider.

Reply Path: allows the recipient of your SMSmessage to send you a reply via your messagecenter, if the service is provided by the network.

Delivery Report: allows you to activate ordeactivate the report function. When this function isactivated, the network informs you whether or not

your message has been delivered.

Broadcast Menu 2-6

This netw ork service allow s you to receive text

messages on various topics, such as the weather or

traff ic. M essages are displayed immediately they are

The last five messages are also stored for laterretrieval. Please contact your service provider for

Read: lets you view the f irst message. Scroll t hroughthe message using or . At the end of themessage, press the Next soft key to move to thenext message.

Receive: allows you to enable or disable thereception of broadcast messages.

Channel List: lists all available channels. Thechannels currently selected are indicated by anasterisk (* ) beside the name. When you select one ofthem, you can edit, enable, disable or delete thechannel.The Enter Channel option allows you to add a new

channel to the channel l ist. Enter the appropriatechannel ID obtained from your service provider, and atitle for the channel.

Language: allows you to select your preferredlanguage to be used when displaying cell broadcastmessages.

Picture Messages Menu 2-7

You can send and receive picture messages via thismenu. When you select a picture message, you can

view the text or image by pressing the right soft key.

Erase: deletes the picture message; Empty isdisplayed instead of the title.

Send M essage: allows you to enter the destinationphone number; you must then press the OK soft keyto send the picture message.

Receiving a Pict ure M essage

To view the image in the picture message, press theView soft key.

To toggle between the text and image, press theright soft key.

If your SIM card supports the ALS feature, this optionalso allows you to select a dif ferent ringing tone for eachline, and thus distinguish incoming calls.

Melody Composer Menu 3-2

This option all ows you to compose your own melody tobe used as the ringing tone.

Three octaves are available. A maximum of 100 notes can be entered. You can adjust the length of t he notes and add rests,

as required.

Composing a M elody

1. When you access the menu, the names of anymelodies created are displayed. Otherwise, (Empty)appears. Select the melody that you wish to create oredit.

2. Press the Select soft key and compose your melodyusing the follow ing keys.

You can use the Tones menu to customize varioussound settings, such as the:

Note: The silent mode allows you to turn the varioustones off when discretion is required. Press and

Ring Tone Menu 3-1

This option allows you to select the required ringingtone. You can choose between 20 different tones. Eachtime you select a tone, it is played for a few seconds.

Three additional ringing tones can be created from any

ringing tone messages that you have received.When you receive a ringing tone message, proceed asfollows.

1. To listen to the tone, press the Play soft key.

2. Press the Save soft key.

3. Select one of the ringing tone locations andpress the OK soft key.

4. To use this tone as the ringing tone, press the Yessoft key. Otherwise No soft key.

Two additional options correspond to the melodies thatyou can compose, using t he M elody Composer menuoption (3-2).

Service Light

This option allows you to select whether or not theservice light on the top of the phone is used. Thefollowing options are available.

ON: the service light flashes when the phone isready for use.

OFF: the service light is not used.

Auto Redial

Wi th the Auto Redial f unction, the phone makes upto ten attempts to redial a phone number after anunsuccessful call.

Note: The interval between tw o call attempts varies.


ON: the number is redialed automatically.

OFF: the number is not redialed.

Car Kit Answer

With the Auto Answer function, the phone auto-matically answers calls af ter 3, 5 or 10 seconds. Youcan also turn this feature off.

Note: This feature is only available when the phoneis connected to a car kit (optional).

Any- key Answer

Depending on the setting of the Any-key Answeroption, you can answer an incoming call by pressingany key, except and the Reject soft key.To reject the call, press or the Reject soft key.The following options are available.

ON: you can press any key, except and Reject toanswer a call.

OFF: you can only press or the Accept soft keyto answer a call.

Backlight

You can select whether or not the phone uses thebacklight. A marginal increase in standby/ talk t imecan be achieved by turning the backlight off. Thefollowing options are available.

Short: the backlight comes on when you press a keyor receive a call and switches off 10 seconds afterthe last key is pressed.

Long: the backlight comes on when you press a keyor receive a call and switches off 20 seconds afterthe last key is pressed.

OFF: the backlight is not used.

Reset Settings

You can easily reset your phone to its defaultconfiguration. To do so, proceed, as follows.

1. Select the Reset Settings menu option.

2. Enter the 4-digit phone password.

Note: The password is preset to 0000. To change thispassword, refer to page 88.

Network Services Menu 4-2

These menu functions are network services.Please contact your service provider to check theiravailabilit y and subscribe to them, if you so wish.

Caller ID

You can prevent your phone number from beingdisplayed on the phone of the person being called.

Note: Some networks do not allow the user to

change this setting.


Default: the default setting provided by the networkis used.

Hide Number: your number is not displayed on theother persons phone.

Send Number: your number is sent each time youmake a call.

Key Lock

With the key lock function, you can prevent accidentalkey pressing.

To set your call forwarding options, proceed asfollows.

1. Select the type of call forw arding required bypressing or until the appropriate option

is highlighted, and then press the Select soft key.2. Select the type of calls to be forwarded by pressing

3. Press the Activate soft key to confirm your settings.

4. Enter the number to which the calls are to beforwarded.To enter the international code, press and hold 0until the + sign is displayed. You can also select anumber in the phonebook or the voice servernumber, by pressing the Options soft key, followedby PhoneBook or Voice Server Number.

5. When you are satisfied, press or theOK softkey.

The phone sends your setting to the network andthe networks acknowledgement is displayed.

To deactivate specif ic call forwarding settings,proceed as follow s.

1. Select the call forwarding option to be deactivated.

2. Select the type of call to which this option applies.

3. Press the Remove soft key.

The phone sends your settings to the network andthe networks acknowledgement is displayed.

You can also deactivate all call forw arding sett ings byselecting the Cancel All option.

Call Forwarding

Note: Some call forwarding options may not be shownif they are not supported by your networkoperator.

This network service enables incoming calls to bererouted to the number that you specify.Example: You may wish to forward your business calls

to a colleague while you are on holiday.

Call forwarding can be set up in the following ways.

Forward Alw ays: all calls are forwarded.

Unavailable: calls are forwarded if you are busy, donot answer or cannot be reached.

Cancel All : all call forwarding options are cancelled.

Note: These options may be different, depending on theSIM card.

You can specify individual forwarding options for eachof the following call types: Voice calls only Fax calls only (not available when line 2 is in use) Data calls only (not available when line 2 is in use)

Network Selection

The Netw ork Selection f eature enables you to: Indicate whether the network used when roaming

(outside your home area) is selected automaticallyor manually

Set up a preferred list to be used when selectinga network automatically

Note: You can select a network other than yourhome network if it has a valid roamingagreement with your home network.

To indicate w hether the network is to be selectedautomatically or manually when roaming, proceed asfollows.

1. When Netw ork Select is displayed, press theSelect soft key.

2. Press or unti l the appropriate option ishighlighted and press the OK soft key.

If you select Automatic , you are connected to thefirst available network in the preferred list whenroaming.

If you select Manual, the phone scans for theavailable networks. Go to Step 3.

3. Press or until the preferred network ishighlighted and press the OK soft key.

You are connected to that network when roaming.

Call W aiting

This netw ork service enables you to be informed whensomeone is trying to reach you during another call.

To set your call w aiting options, proceed as follows.1. Select the type of calls to which the call wai ting

option is to be applied by pressing oruntil the appropriate option is highlighted andthen press Select.

2. Press the Activate soft key to confirm yoursettings.

The phone sends your settings to the network andthe networks acknowledgement is displayed.

To deactivate specif ic call waiting settings, proceedas follows.

1. Select the type of call to which the option applies.

Enable: you must enter the PIN each time the phoneis switched on.

Change PIN

This feature allows you to change your current PINto a new one, provided that the PIN Check feature isenabled. You must enter the current PIN before youcan specify a new one.

Once you have entered a new PIN, you are asked toconfirm it by entering it again.

Phone Lock

When the Phone Lock feature is enabled, the phoneis locked and you must enter the phone password

each time the phone is swi tched on.The password is factory set to 0000. To change thephone password, refer to the Change Passw ordmenu option (4-3-4).Once the correct password has been entered, youcan use the phone until you switch it off.


Enable: you are required to enter the phonepassword when you switch the phone on.

Disable: you are not asked to enter the phonepassword when you switch the phone on.

This option allows you to view the following lineidentification settings.

CLIP (Calling Line Identification Presentation) /COLP (Connected Line Identification Presentation)If t hese network functions are active, the callersnumber is displayed during a call. If the phonenumber matches one stored in the phonebook, thecallers name is also displayed.CLIR (Calling Line Identification Restriction) /COLR (Connected Line Identification Restriction)

If these network functions are active, your phonenumber is not displayed on the called persons phone.

Change PIN2

The Change PIN2 feature allows you to change yourcurrent PIN2 to a new one. You must enter the currentPIN2 before you can specify a new one.

Once you have entered a new PIN2, you are asked toconfirm it by entering it again.

Note: Not all SIM cards have a PIN2. If your SIM carddoes not, this menu option is not displayed.

LCD Settings Menu 4-4

The LCD Settings menu enables you to set the style ofthe LCD display.

Screen Mode

You can select the screen image to be displayed in idlemode.

Normal Mode: the LCD displays and the current time and date.

Image Display: The LCD displays t he image selectedvia the Select Image option 10 seconds after the lastkey is pressed. When the LCD displays the image, pressany key to access the normal mode.If the Key Lock is On, press the left soft key and then

the key to access the normal mode.Clock: The LCD displays an analogue clock. 10 secondsafter the last key is pressed.When the LCD displays the clock, press any key toaccess the normal mode. If the Key Lock is On, pressthe lef t soft key and then the key to access thenormal mode.

Change Password

The Change Password feature allows you to change yourcurrent phone password to a new one. You must enterthe current password before you can specify a new one.

The password is factory set to 0000. Once you haveentered a new password of up to 4 digits, you are askedto confirm it by entering it again.

SIM Lock

When the SIM Lock feature is enabled, your phone onlyworks with the current SIM.

Once you have entered the lock code, you are asked toconfirm it by entering it again.

To unlock the SIM, you must enter the SIM lock code.

FDN Mode

The FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by your

SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls t o alimi ted set of phone numbers.


Enable: you can only call phone numbers stored in thephonebook. You must enter your PIN2.

Disable: you can call any number.Note: Not all SIM cards have a PIN2. If your SIM card

does not, this menu option is not displayed.

Alarm Menu 5-2

This option allows you to set the alarm to ring at aspecific time. You can set one or more alarms.The following alarms are available.

Daily Alarm: the alarm rings every day at the sametime.

Once Alarm: the alarm rings only once and is thendeactivated.

Weekly Alarm: the alarm rings every week on thesame day and at the same time.

The Alarm Tone option allows you to select aspecifi c tone for the alarm.

To schedule a new event, proceed as follows.

1. When the calendar is displayed, use the

You can use the phone as a 9-digit calculator. Thecalculator provides the basic arit hmetic functions:addition, subtraction, multiplication, division,percentages.

To use the calculator, proceed as follows.

1. Enter the first number using the number keys.

2. Press the Funct i ons soft key until you find the

appropriate arithmetic symbol: + (add),- (subtract), x (multiply), / (divide).

3. Enter the second number.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 if necessary.

5. To calculate the result t o two decimal places,press the Equa l soft key or the key.

To erase any mistakes or clear the display, pressthe key.

To enter a decimal point, press the key.

To set the alarm, proceed as follows.

1. Select an alarm type by pressing the Sel ec t soft

key.The Set Al arm option allows you to set the alarmtime or days of the w eek.

2. If you choose Weekly Alarm, select the requiredday of the week and press .

The * symbol appears to indicate that t he day isselected.
