Author’s AnecdoteIn many ways, Ultimate charisma is a celebration of Everyman Gaming, LLC. It is a fusion between Psychological combat, the company’s first product and one of its highest-rated, and leadershiP handbook, a marvel of ingenuity and a labor of love. Originally, I had set out to create a print version of Psychological combat, but when I learned that it was two pages too short for Print on Demand, I was left with two choices: add in two pages of filler or combine Psychological combat with another one of my products so it would meet the printer’s minimum size. In the end, I left the choice up to Everyman Gaming, LLC’s fans and Ultimate charisma was born.

If Ultimate charisma were a mere compilation, however, it would only be about 40 pages long. Ultimate charisma boasts over 60 pages of content and includes expansions to almost every rule set from Psychological combat and leadershiP handbook. In its final iteration, I dare say that Ultimate charisma is a resource that will define and inspire hundreds of campaigns and adventures to come. Enjoy! — Alexander Augunas

Table of ContentsThe following topics are explored in Ultimate charisma.

Rules Systems: The first section of Ultimate charisma deals with a number of alternate rules systems that allow GMs and players to gain further use out of their Charisma. These systems are interconnected when possible and tie into the optional rules found in Pathfinder rolePlaying game Ultimate camPaign. Although they are designed to be used alongside one another, the GM has the final say regarding which rules systems is available for use.

The six rules systems that are presented within Ultimate charisma are summarized below.

Leadership Score (Pgs 6-7): The Leadership Score system is the default rules set upon which the cohort, follower, relationship, and reputation systems build. This section describes the application of a new character statistic, Leadership Score, and provides an overview of how it can be used. This section also includes an alternate rule for basing leadership on the party rather than an individual PC.

Cohorts (Pgs 8-13): The Cohort system details the acquisition of powerful NPC allies that function in most ways like PCs. This section describes how cohorts are recruited, what tasks they can perform for their leader, and how they advance. This section also includes a list of monstrous cohort options from across a number of Pathfinder rolePlaying game sources.

Followers (Pgs 14-19): The Follower system details the acquisition of numerous noncombatant NPC allies. This section describes how followers are attracted, what tasks they can perform for their leader, and how they advance. Although followers can be customized to suit a PC’s needs, this section also includes rules for prebuilt followers that make determining the common statistics of a faceless follower faster to prevent holding up gameplay.

Psychological Maneuvers (Pgs 20-23): The Psychological

Maneuvers system details a number of special actions that you can use in combat to harry and slander your opponents. Three psychological maneuvers are presented in this section: antagonize, demoralize, and feint, as well as a set of rules that allows these maneuvers to be used in a manner similar to attacks of opportunity when a suitably traumatic event occurs. This section also includes a number of alternate and optional rules for the GM to use to further adjust psychological combat.

Relationships (Pgs 24-27): The Relationships system details the processes of forging bonds with specific NPCs. This section describes how relationships are formed, the different types of relationships, how they advance, and what rewards you can gain from creating a suitably high relationship with an NPC. This section also includes rules for developing an existing relationship into a romance.

Reputation (Pgs 28-31): The Reputation system details the process of increasing your notoriety in a specific region. This section describes how the range of a character’s reputation is determined, the different kinds of reputation, different events that raise or lower reputation, and the benefits and pitfalls of having a reputation. In addition, the section includes several alternate methods for tracking reputation, such as group reputations and secret identities.

Character Options: The second section of Ultimate charisma deals with player options that support the rules systems in the previous section. As with the previous section, the GM has the final say which of these options are available.

Archetypes and Options (Pgs 34-39): This section provides players with a number of archetypes and optional class abilities for a variety of classes from the Pathfinder rolePlaying game. These options tie in exclusively with the psychological maneuvers system, as the other systems are represented primarily by the Leadership Perks section.

Feats (Pgs 40-43): This section provides a number of feats for use with the rules systems supported by Ultimate charisma, with the majority of options revolving around the psychological maneuvers system. Mythic characters using the rules from Pathfinder rolePlaying game mythic adventUres will find mythic versions of several of the feats outlined in this section while characters using the stamina pool rules from Pathfinder rolePlaying game Pathfinder Unchained, this section also includes new combat tricks for many of the feats provided herein.

Leadership Perks (Pgs 44–61): This section introduces a new type of character option that is acquired independently of other character advancement options known as leadership perks. Leadership perks allow characters to gain new tricks and techniques that apply their leadership, reputation, and relationships in new and exciting ways.

Traits: (Pgs 62–63): The final section in Ultimate charisma provides new character traits for characters using the traits system from Pathfinder rolePlaying game advanced Player’s gUide to make use of. In addition to detailing a number of new combat and social traits, a new category of trait known as relationship traits is introduced in this section.

“Raise your eyes, mortals, and truly

see,” urged Archimedes the Bright-

Eyed, herald of the goddess Athena.

All watched as Rayna emerged from

the shadows of the olive irminsul that

she had planted, bloodied, but alive.

“Rayna!” Graxiclees raced forward

to her, dropping his weapons to the

ground. He scarcely moved several

feet before Valemin stopped him.

“Not now, Grax, look.”

“I don’t have time to look, she’s hurt!”

Graxiclees retorted. But then a warm,

inviting light washed over them, and

both Graxiclees and Valemin stopped

struggling and watched in awe.

“Today, Athena has given you a

gift,” Archimedes continued, “She has

given you her daughter. Sing praises

unto Athena, mortals, for Rayna is

worthy. Let all of creation rejoice

and sing her name: Rayna, Herald of

Athena the Wise!”

Leadership Score

Using LeadershipA character’s Leadership Score is utilized by a number of modular subsystems that allow you to raise kingdoms, attract cohorts and followers, and even declare war upon your enemies. As a modular system, it is up to the GM to determine which uses of Leadership are available for your character to access within the campaign and although some of these systems interact with one another, they are also designed to function independently from one another as well.

The following leadership subsystems are available to characters who make use of Ultimate charisma.

Cohorts: A cohort is a helpful character who provides assistance to you in some way. Cohorts manage organizations, organize teams, lead kingdoms, and can even go adventuring with you. In addition to the modifiers noted on Table 1-1: Leadership Modifiers, the special circumstances noted on Table 1-3: Cohort Modifiers can further modify your Leadership Score for the purpose of determining the highest level of cohort that you can attract.

Followers: A follower is a helpful NPC who provides assistance to you in some way. Where cohorts are treated like PCs in most regards, a follower does not advance in level as quickly and has stricter limitations placed upon her. In addition to the modifiers noted on Table 1-1: Leadership Modifiers, the special circumstances noted on Table 1-6: Follower Modifiers can further modify your Leadership Score for the purpose of determining the number of followers that you can attract.

Mass Combat: A commander is a character who acts as the leader of an army. A commander of an army uses her Leadership Score to meet the prerequisites of certain army boons, which are special abilities and benefits that her army gains as a result of her Leadership abilities. Mass combat is described in detail in Chapter 4 of Pathfinder rolePlaying game: Ultimate camPaign.

Perks: A leadership perk is a special ability that characters

Under this system, all character possess a statistic called Leadership Score (LS) that represents their leadership ability. A character’s Leadership Score is equal to her character level + her Charisma modifier (minimum 0). If a perk or special ability calls for you to make a Leadership check, roll 1d20 and add your character level + your Charisma modifier to the roll’s result. At your GM’s decision, your leadership check may be modified by one or more leadership modifiers, as shown on Table 1: Leadership Modifiers, if the leadership modifier is relevant to the situation that calls for the leadership check. For example, if you are making a leadership check to inspire your supporters, you may add a +1 bonus on your check if you’ve earned the leadership modifier for displaying confidence in yourself and your supporters.

Leadership Modifiers: As you make decisions and develop your character’s Leadership style and reputation, your GM may decide to grant you one or more modifiers to your Leadership Score, as shown on Table 1: Leadership Modifiers. These modifiers are typically granted based on long-standing trends, not singular occurrences. Once a leadership modifier is earned, it typically takes a significant, prolonged effort to remove it (60 days, or two kingdom turns). At the GM’s decision, an appropriately significant event can cause your modifiers to immediately change, however.

Some Leadership modifiers purposefully oppose or contradict each other. You cannot suffer both a leadership bonus and a leadership penalty that are opposites of the same spectrum at the same time. For example, you cannot gain a bonus for being decisive and a penalty for being indecisive at the same time.

Mythic Leaders: If you are mythic, you add your tier to your Leadership Score and to all Leadership checks that you make.

with Leadership Scores gain as their character level improves. Leadership perks represent special tricks, training, or blessings that you have learned that allow you to use your leadership abilities in new and unique ways. Many perks have a Leadership Score prerequisite while others rely on various other Leadership subsystems found in Pathfinder rolePlaying game: Ultimate camPaign, Ultimate charisma, and beyond.

Relationships: A relationship represents the connection that your character possesses with a specific NPC. In the beginning, the relationships that your character has are based upon his reputation, but slowly begin to focus more upon the amount of effort that your character puts into maintaining and progressing the relationship. All relationships call into one of four categories (animosity, familial, friendship, or peer) and are either healthy or dysfunctional. Although your base Relationship Score is equal to your Charisma modifier, your actions towards that individual can improve your relationship, worsen it, or even cause your relationship to change types, adding a dynamic quality to your relationships. With enough work, you may even be able to develop a relationship into a romance.

Reputation: Your reputation determines how people in a given area generally react to you, as well as your Sphere of Influence, which determines how far word of your reputation travels. In addition to the modifiers noted on Table 1-1: Leadership Modifiers, the special circumstances noted on Table 1-10: Reputation Events can further modify your Leadership Score for the purpose of determining your reputations with a given group of people. Based upon your modifiers, your reputation can be positive (Fame) or negative (Infamy), which can grant you a number of benefits or penalties.
