Well this week we have had the worst illness statistics for the entire winter! Three different bugs are in action and ourabsences have reached an all time high. Thankfully we managed to get school photos completed prior to this.

A huge and sincere congratulations to Peter Excell, Brad Fallow, Tom Black, our staff, parent helpers and the Salford PTAfor an exceptional effort in re establishing the Jungle Gyms into the new playground. The students are already enjoying the

opportunity to develop a range of challenging motor skills using this equipment! Thank you, thank you , thank you!

We are hosting Wilson McCaskill again for a FREE PARENT EVENING in the Salford School Hall Thursday 26 Septemberat 7pm. Please come along and hear Wilson discuss the parenting challenges we all live in and some strategies to assist usall. We are experiencing excellent results with his posters underpinning our school values and behaviour managementsystems. Students are familiar with the language on the posters and use this when discussing peer issues. We have beenre visiting the YELLOW Poster which states

We do the right thing because it is the best thing to do.IT TAKES GREAT STRENGTH TO BE SENSIBLE.

We look forward to seeing you there. This event is generously sponsored by the Invercargill Licensing Trust.Wilson is also speaking at the I Love Teaching conference Monday September 30 Tuesday October 1.All Salford school classroom teachers are attending this event.

Salford School Gifted & Talented Programme 2014The Board of Trustees has made a decision for the allocation of fundingresources for the 2014 Gifted and Talented Programme for SalfordSchool students. We have allocated an amount for the schoolmanagement to use that allows the students to continue to attendEnrich@ILT as a part of that programme. This means all students cur-rently attending will continue in 2014 and the opportunity for screeningwill resume in 2015.

    Board Review Cycle

The Board is currently undertaking a review of the schools PriorityLearners (differently abled learners from both ends of the continuum) to

ensure we continue to best meet the needs of all our students. Also as part of the Boards review cycle we will be conducting a survey inTerm 4 of the parents of students attending Enrich@ILT for 2013.

If you have any questions please see Marlene or myself.Regards Chris Cole, Board Chair

Jungle GymsAfter several years of fundraising and many hours of investigating and researching we haveour Jungle Gyms back. The original impetus came from the students a couple of years ago. They asked and asked for us to get them back out. And now we have!!!!!

Thanks go to the whole community for supporting our many events - from "A Pie and A Pintwith Buck" to Quiz nights with Dessert Auctions to raffles.

Special thanks now to Mr Excell and his team of PTA, several Staff and parent helpers for

spending last Saturday morning digging and shifting dirt and dealing with bark chips. Thanksalso to Ms Campbell for her support to get this project finished.

Spelling BeeI hope houses are buzzing with new words and proud kids as they mastertheir significant spelling lists. Some will be counting up their potentialearnings too I bet! Once tests are done and money is collected fromsponsors we will have money to count and bank.

Board of TrusteesAs part of The Board of Trustees ongoing self reviewwe have recently conducted a review of the SalfordSchool After School Care , and the Holiday Careprogrammes.

    Thank you for your feedback.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE:The Board appreciates your very positive commentsand ongoing support of this service. The survey clearlyshowed that our families are happy clients and the

children enjoy the variety of activities.HOLIDAY CARE:A Holiday Care programme, has been provided duringterm breaks and the six week break at Christmas time.It is with regret, that we advise this programme willnolonger be continued.

The Board acknowledges that families also valued andappreciated the convenience of this service. TheBoard cannot however, meet its obligations under theHealth and Safety Act, and therefore the difficultdecision to discontinue the holiday care programmewas made.

The Board would like to express their sincere thanksto Gaye and Gaylene for their superb service, and welook forward to this continuing in the future with theAfter School Care serviceterm time only.

    Regards Chris Cole, Board Chair
