Sonitus Technologies ATAC, An invisible audio capability, always on, in all conditions, in all operations and in all maneuvers

Business Summary

Sonitus has developed a wireless, hands-free, ears-free (worn in-the-mouth) communications device capable of transmitting and receiving communications signals to and from a radio or phone. Company has delivered its first product to U.S. special forces.

Communication problems solved

Elite professionals no longer have to choose between being connected or protected. In the past they often could not communicate when they needed to the most. The Sonitus ATAC product solves the gaps in mobile communications identified by national security, first responder other elite professionals that jeopardize mission success and operator safety: Hearing and transmitting in extremely noisy, windy or wet conditions

Bulky, heavy gear that impairs movement, protective equipment and awareness External (visible) components when stealth is needed.

The ATAC Solution

The ATAC enables seamless, constant audio connectivity in extreme conditions, adaptable to the full range of missions and personal protective gear. ATAC is a safe, comfortable two-way communicator worn as a mouthpiece that transmits via new pathways. Incoming sound is clear, using bone conduction using the teeth and an embedded noise-shielding microphone for transmitting outgoing speech. The ATAC is fully concealed wireless, hands- and ears-free and excels in extremely noisy, windy and wet conditions. It replaces all headsets, earpieces, external microphones and wires, and can be worn with all forms of personal protective equipment such as helmets, masks, and hearing protection, used by military, fire, hazmat response, and other field professionals. ATAC supports encrypted communications and is wireless biometric data capture capable.

Origins of the Technology and Transition

The Sonitus solution repurposes a proven medical device hearing technology leveraging an FDA-approved, safe, effective and comfortable medical device with over 1,500 users. The technology is patent-protected by more then 40 issued US patents. In-Q-Tel, an investment company funded by the CIA, funded a multi-$million development program to adapt the FDA-approved platform to the current two-way audio communications product.

Validation and Current Deployments

Elite US Government customers identified the unmet need and funded development. In–Q–Tel (the CIA’s nonprofit venture arm) has funded product development programs, and joined Panasonic in supporting the spin–out of the company. 3M has partnered for a product integration for a high noise solution. The first product has been field tested by US special forces, intelligence personnel and first responders and has been selected under a funded military program for customer deployment and combat evaluation.
