Welcome!“We're here to serve you”by Vince Lima - Managing Director

We are excited to be part of the Salem Glen Golf & Country Club Family with you. After purchasing the Club in August of 2013, my wife, Christine and I, along with our four children have moved into the neighborhood. Even with the snow that we have experienced recently, it is still a much more mild climate than the northern regions we came from. We are happy to be here for

this and a multitude of reasons.

We, at Salem Glen Golf & Country Club, desire to grow within the community. We want to offer the residents in the surrounding area the opportunity to have a club experience that enriches their lives. Being family owned and operated, we strive to offer the personal touch, and value that exceeds the expectations of our Members.

We are in the midst of Club renovations and improvements. These renovations will take time, and we sincerly appreciate your patience as we move forward with these projects. A fitness area is part of the updates along, with a new snack bar area and redesign of the main Clubhouse area and restaurant. We believe our Members will be very pleased and will see much more value to their membership with these additions and enhancements.

Our members will also enjoy preferred tee times, prime golfing times will be reserved for member only play; preferred pricing on food & beverages, apparel and golf equipment up to 20% below non-member pricing; use of private member only area and outdoor shelter; participation in all golf and social events; reduced room rental fees for events; and full use of a private pool.

We want to enrich the lives of our Members and build community here at Salem Glen Golf & Country Club. We hope you will join us.

If you do not currently receive our email newsletters and notices, please go to our website, salemglen.com and sign up today.

Club HouseFrom Chef

“Farm Fresh & More”by Dusty Snow, Executive Chef

With spring comes fresh offerings to the Salem Glen table. As a NC native, it is a passion to use many in-house made products with the finest regional ingredients in our dishes. We use local eggs, Ashe County Co. Cheeses, located in West Jefferson and local hydroponic lettuces. Even the mayonaise on your sandwiches is house-made.

All this magic happens in a very small ktichen, staffed by two chefs and one line cook. No additional staff can be added due to the kitchen size. We do our very best with this challenge, especially when we get a large crowd in the restaurant that comes all at once, such as a typical Friday night. We appreciate your patience with the wait times.

A couple of the favorites on our menu are the Angel Hair Seafood and the Grilled Chicken Penne. We hope you'll join us and try one of these dishes or one of the many other delicious offerings. I promise you they will please.

“Salem Glen Menu Offerings”We take pride in offering our members and restaurant guests the highest quality products.

Our menus are dynamic, meaning they will change seasonally to bring new and exciting options. To insure that we are bringing the freshest ingredients, I have studied seasonal vegetable charts and contacted our local farms to see what looks best throughout the year and learn when we can expect the peak produce to be available to craft our upcoming menus.

We listen to our members and customers and want to bring great ideas and different tastes to the sophistocated pallets of our patrons. We know that you want something special--something that you can't get anywhere else.

Event Planning“ Spring! ”

by Syvella Coomer-Event Coordinator

We are excited to offer more family and member events to our social calendar. With offerings such as Steak House Night, Lunch & Learn, Martini Night, Seafood Night, Kid's' Night, Special Dinners, Wine Tastings and more, we feel certain our Club Members will be pleased.

Stay tuned for a listing of the possibilities along with a survey to assess what events Members would most like to participate in.

It is going to be a fun spring. There will be no lacking for things to do at Salem Glen Golf & Country Club. We look forward to you and your family joining us.

Also remember us for all of your event planning and parties. We offer great service and the most delicious food around. Chef Dusty will put together a menu that is "off-the-charts" delicious just for you!

“Best Oil to Sauté”by Dusty Snow, Executive Chef

A great choice oil to sauté or pan sear is a canola and vegetable blend.

It has a general high smoke point (the temperature oil start to burn) and its mild flavor offers a clean canvas to showcase other flavors. It is best to avoid cooking with olive oil due to its low smoke point. Olive oil is best used in salad dressings or as a finishing oil to drizzle on a plate.

Next time you are pan searing a piece of chicken or fish, use 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to 1 tablespoon of butter to cook the protein. The oil keeps the butter from burning and you still get that nice butter flavor. If you like, you can also keep the remaining oil in the pan after your protein is cooked, this is called "fond." and make a delicious pan sauce. Simply add and reduce a little white wine to soak up all the flavor on the bottom of the pan. Enjoy!

Not a member of the Hole-In-One Club? Now is the time to join. The rules are simple and there is no cost to join. You must be a member of Salem Glen Golf & Country Club. If you have a hole-in-one while playing at Salem Glen, all those members signed up for the hole in one club will be invoiced $10 to their member account. The person making the hole-in-one will receive the amount in a form of credit. The credit can be used in two ways. All of the credit can

be spent in the Pro Shop, or may use half to offer your fellow golfers a celebratory cocktail, as with the original intended sprit of the Club. The remaining half may be used in the Pro Shop. We currently have over 60 members of the hole in one club, so payout now is over $600.

Signing up is simple, you can call the Pro Shop or email [email protected] to be added. If you have already signed up for the club you do not need to sign up again.

Hole -in-ones tend to come in bunches at Salem Glen just ask Ken McKeel and Jim Butchart. They each had hole in ones on #12 in December on the same day and playing in back to back groups. Congratulations to them both!

Course News"Looking Forward”

Matthew Robinson - Superintendent

2013 was a wonderful year at Salem Glen Golf & Country Club. I look forward to another successful year as we continue to move forward and make improvements in 2014. I always welcome and appreciate your suggestions.

This has been an extremely wet and cold winter. With the bermuda grass in dormancy, the necessity to keep golf carts on the path increases. I try to limit the amount of time on the path, but please be mindful of wet areas that do not dry out as

quickly during this season as in the summer. The damage sustained this time of year will not heal until the bermuda grass begins growing in May. So far I don’t think the weather has been severe enough to jeopardize spring green up.

Please come out and enjoy our course and facilities. Thank you for your support of Salem Glen throughout the upcoming year.

Upcoming Golf Events

MARCH 15th & 16th - Ryder Cup style format, two teams are formed based

on handicaps. The MGA Memorial is a tribute to former members of the MGA

that have passed. Entry fee for the event is in the form of donations, all MGA

members can donate money to the charity. This year donations will go to St.

Jude’s in honor of Mike Zoeller. The last two years the MGA has raised over

$2,000 for charities in our area with this event. Tournament is limited to MGA

members only.
