Hidden Glen Happenings - November 2009 NOVEMBER 2009 VOLUME 1 ISSUE 9 News for the Residents of Hidden Glen HAPPENINGS Hidden Glen Message from the Board As a reminder, the Hidden Glen HOA Annual Meeting is Monday, November 16, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of North Mays and US Highway 79. We will be in the same room as last year, Building 5, Room 127. 6:30 – 7:30 PM Q&A with Goodwin and the Board of Directors 7:30 – 8:30 PM HOA Meeting and Election of the Expiring Director Position All homeowners are encouraged to attend, but because of the limited space, no children please. This is a great opportunity to ask questions in an open forum with the board, the committee chairs, the HOA management company, and your neighbors all in attendance. It’s also a great opportunity to find out what is happening in the various committees to see where you can get involved. On that subject, one of the committee positions we need help with is the chair of the Landscape Committee. Nancy Massey has done a fantastic job of working with the landscapers to improve the overall appearance of the community and to establish a number of ongoing programs, but she and her family are moving and we need someone to continue her good work. Here are some of the great things the Landscape Committee does: Interface with the landscapers (including an occasional drive-through to highlight particular areas of attention) Work with the City of Round Rock Parks Department regarding maintenance and improvements of the park land Administer the Yard of the Month and Holiday Yard programs (post signs, take pictures for the newsletter, and hand out awards) Schedule an annual neighborhood clean-up (beginning Sunday, November 8th at 1:00) Oversee (but not maintain!) the dog waste stations Please consider whether you can support your neighborhood in this regard. And thank you Nancy for everything you’ve done. You will be missed! You may also have noticed a different landscape crew in the neighborhood beginning in October. One of the decisions the Landscape Committee made over the summer was to switch maintenance companies to SunTerra. They are the ones that do the work for Wood Glen and we will have the same on-site manager and crews supporting our neighborhood. Since they are still learning the particulars of caring for our property, please let us know if there is something that they overlook. Last Call for the Fall Cleanup! The first annual Hidden Glen Neighborhood Cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, at 1:00PM. Our goal is to clean and prune as necessary the nature areas that are not maintained by the HG landscaping company. We will meet at the amenity center parking lot to divide into teams. Please wear comfortable clothing that you won't mind getting dirty. Please bring clippers, saws, and gloves. Trash bags and light refreshments will be provided. Rain date: November 15, 1:00PM Thank you, in advance The Landscaping Committee

Caution:Children! The safety committee received an email

concerning a child dashing out in the street in front of a car. The driver had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the child. The "Caution-children at play" signs dO nOT provide absolute protection for children playing in or near the street. parents need to keep close supervision of their children to avoid a potential accident. drivers also need to be cautious of children playing.

now you finally know its fall, not because the temperatures are cooler, but because it is FOOTBall season! With high school games on Friday nights, college games on saturdays and professional games on sundays, our weekends can be full of concession-stand food, barbecue, six-foot sandwiches and chips.

all of these game-day feasts can lead to extra calories, which can mean extra pounds, even before the holiday season arrives! The good news is that with a few changes, such as these tailgate make-over tips, you can decrease the fat and calories and increase the nutrition of your tailgating menu, without sacrificing taste:Typical Tailgating Food

it is also never a bad idea to have a fruit and/or vegetable tray available for those who are vegetarian or for low-calorie snacking. if you have a favorite tailgating food or snack, allow yourself to indulge in it, but try to replace other tailgating options with healthier alternatives and be mindful of portion sizes.

Whether you are tailgating at the stadium or “tablegating” in your living room, it’s easy to keep game day food fun, tasty and healthy. Most importantly though, remember, it is about the camaraderie and the love of the game, not the food. Consider having your own game of touch football during half time to burn off those extra calories!

With the last football games in both pro and college football set for the beginning of next year, we still have many opportunities to load up on calorie-laden and high-fat tailgating food. practice these easy and tasty substitutions to help you stay healthy this football season.
