FEAST OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD
NEW YEAR’S – JANUARY 1, 2016
As we look back over the past year, many of us can be grateful for accomplishments, blessings received, health choices and there are also the regrets and mistakes. What is important is today and the choices we make that we have control over. Let us ask God to be with us in 2016. Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God, may we receive the strength and courage to live justly, caring for others, especially the least of our brothers and sisters.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all those who donated Christmas flowers in memory/honor of loved ones. Your gifts allowed us to decorate our church so beautifully. A list of donors is available at the doors of the church. NOCTURNAL ADORATION SOCIETY of Agawam and West Springfield will meet at St. Thomas Church in West Springfield on Friday, January 8 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. We will have adoration and pray the Office of The Blessed Sacrament and will close with Benediction. Everyone is welcome to join us for all or any part of the hour.
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT will take place on Friday, January 8. Adoration will begin after the 8:00 a.m. daily Mass and end at 4:00 p.m. All are invited to accept our Lord’s invitation to spend an hour or any part of an hour in adoration with Him. If you are planning to attend, and know what time you will attend, please sign up so that all hours are accounted for.
NOVENA TO ST. PEREGRINE, patron saint for those with cancer, takes place every Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield. Cancer patients, cancer survivors, friends of cancer patients, and the general public are invited to attend.
MEALS FOR HOMEBOUND ELDERLY—Do you know someone who is homebound, can’t prepare nutritious meals, and has no one to help with cooking? They may be eligible to receive well-balanced lunchtime meals. Home meal services are provided by the West Springfield Council on Aging, which is funded in part by Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc. A donation of $2.50 per meal is suggested. For more information, contact the West Springfield COA (413) 263-3264 or (413) 495-1802.
PRAYERS FOR DECEASED—Robert I. Hottin and Simone Bajowski. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Confessions will resume on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
We sincerely thank so many parishioners who sent cards,
greetings, personal messages, gifts and goodies for Christmas.
You make us feel very welcome and a special part of St. Thomas
the Apostle Parish. God Bless you for your support and
thoughtfulness.

Fr. Tatro and Fr. Alcombright
NEW YEAR’S PRAYER
Speak a shade more kindly than the year before.
Pray a little oftener, love a little more.
Cling a little closer to the Savior’s love.
And the life below will daily grow more like the life above.
PARISHIONERS, ST. THOMAS SCHOOL ALUMNI, AND FRIENDS—PLEASE NOTE December and January are the renewal months for the 500 Club. You should have received the information in the mail. The last drawing for 2015 is January 25 and the first drawing for 2016 is February 29. The profits realized, shared equally by the school and parish, will be used to help pay for both the heating costs and the cost of electricity for the school and the parish.
The Parish Office will be closed on Friday, January 1,
2016 for New Year’s. Wishing you and your families a
very healthy and happy 2016!
REDISCOVER A TASTE FOR FEEDING ON THE WORD OF GOD—Deepen your relationship with the Lord. Take a few moments to consider what is really important in your life. ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE SCHOOL NEWS Our preschool annual Christmas show was a big success! The children sang special Christmas songs and acted out the Nativity. At the end of the program, guess who arrived ringing his bells with a
big "Ho Ho Ho"? Santa Claus! He greeted every child with Merry Christmas as they sat sharing with him what they wish for on Christmas morning.
The elementary Christmas Pageant was a success as well. The students portrayed Mary, Joseph, the angels, the wise men, and the shepherds with great reverences and spirit. Every class had an opportunity to sing and they did so with great enthusiasm. It was such a spiritual and joyous way to celebrate the Christmas season. Thank you to Bishop Rozanski for being in attendance! It was wonderful having you visit us!

CALLING ALL GRANDPARENTS—How can you pray more effectively for your grandchildren? Please come and find out and make a New Year’s resolution to join us in 2016 to pray for our grandchildren and families. Group prayer is very powerful with God. Our first meeting for 2016 will be on Tuesday, January 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Casimir’s Church, 22 State Street, Westfield. Please come and join us! We are a group of people united by a belief in the importance of the vocation of Grandparents. We assist Grandparents in providing a crucial link in passing on the faith.
