From the Pastor’s Desk… The story of Jesus healing the leper - good for the leper, bad for Jesus. The last piece of this Gospel today is that Jesus tells the man he healed not to tell anyone, and he doesn’t listen. As

a result, Jesus is exiled from the town. The leper, who should have known how horrible it is to be the outcast, didn’t even consider that his disobedience made Jesus the outcast instead. And yes, Jesus still healed people outside the town, but it doesn’t change the fact that the leper’s

careless disobedience was a detriment to Jesus’ mission. Jesus is always the most positive force in our lives; that is a given. And nothing will ever stop

Jesus from being who he is. But what about us? We are saved by Christ like the leper, but now is our moment of truth. Just as Jesus gave the leper stern instructions, he gave us very

serious directions too to draw other disciples to the Church by showing how passionate we are about building the kingdom of God: by learning as much as we can about our faith, showing forth the hope of heaven in helping the Church’s ministry, be heavenly, and holding one an-

other responsible in love to do all of the above.

It is obvious that if a person does all those things, they are helping Christ’s mission. But what if they are not? You might think, “It’s not a big deal. It’s not like I’m hurting Christ if I don’t do everything he said.” Actually, yes; it is a very big deal. Everyone who does not do these things

is not just neutral; he or she is a detriment to Christ’s mission. Every Catholic who refuses to learn as much as they can about God in order to communicate the faith for the 21st century is virtually telling the world that faith in Christ is irrelevant. Every Catholic who believes that their

Catholic life is just fine, going to Mass on Sunday and giving their little contribution, is virtually telling the world that Christ’s mission to help all people through the Church’s ministry is non-

sense. And the world is watching and listening. The Church throughout the world loses credi-bility for every person who ignores Jesus’ expectations, just as Jesus became exiled when the leper ignored his words as well.

Jesus Christ will always go on saving everyone. As for us, either we are helping Christ’s mis-sion, or we are hindering it.

Be a disciple… Fr. Anthony

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we know, on Wednesday, February 14th, we begin the liturgical season of 40 days of Lent. Let us all strive to make this Lent for the whole family truly a time of growing in our faith, spending more time with God in prayer, fasting, and more consciously reaching out to the poor. In this bulletin you see a variety of times for the dis-tribution of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, but I would like to emphasize the 4:00 pm service which would seem to be the best time for our children from the Faith Formation Program.

In addition to the Parish Mission and the Stations of the Cross, we will be having the Passover Meal celebrated in English on Saturday, March 10th, at 6:00 pm and in Spanish on Saturday, March 17th, at 6:00 pm in Tolentine Hall. The purpose is to help us better understand the con-text in which Jesus gave Himself to us in the Eucharist for the first time at the Last Supper which was a Passover Meal. What was Jesus and his apostles celebrating? We will be eating the traditional food at the Passover. Tickets will be available next weekend after all Masses and during the week in the Rectory.

REMINDER: The Family First Holy Communion Ses-sion will be on Friday, February 16th, beginning with a meal at 6:00 pm. It is expected that all be present.

God bless you! Sister Alice Michael, S.U.S.C. Director of Faith Formation

Hermana Alice Michael, S.U.S.C. Director de Formación de Fe
