It is quite a sight to behold. Hundreds of green, yellow and blue parrots fly in great waves over the house crying out so loudly that you can’t even hear passing cars and trucks. For a Minnesotan accustomed to less ostentatious and much quieter flocks of birds, it is quite a sight. The arrival of the parrots begins as a quiet rush in the distance, and grows louder until parrots fill the sky and the air with their colorful noise. I actually try to arrange my schedule to be at home to witness their daily rush to their homes. It is quite a cause of momentary wonder and delight. As quickly as it appears the wave of beauty passes and the traffic noise returns as if nothing wonderful has happened at all. I always experience Advent as a time of expectation, a time of hearing something or seeing something wonderful beginning to unfold, but not quite perceptible at the moment. I find that I am anxious for whatever is going to happen to come upon us with a startling beauty and unexpected joy. I begin to see the signs that God is about to do something wonderful, but it will come when it comes, and I have only to wait for it to appear. I cannot make it happen, I cannot accelerate its approach, but I can be ready to be filled with wonder when it bursts upon us. Today’s readings remind us that God is preparing to come among us. He is gathering the wonder of salvation and those who are attentive will begin to hear and see the signs of his approach. The prophet Isaiah pierces the darkness and with bright vision sees the people of God streaming towards salvation. Jesus reminds us that God is rushing towards us with salvation and joy. We will receive little warning of his arrival, but those who are patient and persevering in their waiting will be witnesses to wonder. St. Paul rejoices as he detects the ending of the night and the dawning of salvation. He shakes us awake and invites us to receive the Lord’s salvation when it suddenly appears. I know that it has grown cold and that the nights have grown longer. The daily struggles of life in the winter have complicated our already sometimes difficult lives, but in these long cold and difficult nights are the signs of the dawn of salvation. Together let us heed the invitation of Isaiah. Let us arise from our slumber and struggle and “walk in the light of the Lord. Fr. Tony Stubeda

Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord Each afternoon at the house where I stay in Cuernavaca during my vacation there is a loud,

raucous cacophony of squawking and crying out as hundreds of parrots fly over the house to roost in the trees up the hill.

THE RE CONNECTION: With Advent upon us, all the Holy Hep-Kats will be tryin’ to keep the kiddos awake so’s they won’t be caught unprepared for that ‘ol hour they don’t expect. Said Catechists are always impressing upon their students the relevance and value of their time in the Hallowed Halls. For who among you would not agree that what is being taught here carries with it an even more essential necessity of understanding than regular school subjects? But don’t misunderstand…the ‘ol “readin’, ritin’, and ‘rithmatic” are still very important. After all, in the real world, one plus one has to equal two…unlike the math in the Hallowed Halls, where One plus One plus One equals ONE. But don’t worry! The Holy Hep-Kats are very adept at helpin’ the kiddos distinguish that fine line between success in life and success for eternal life, and for helpin’ them to realize the dire need for perceptible communication with both the Almighty and humankind. Yep, they always be learnin’ them kids that there ain’t nothin’ importanter!!!

AREA PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY: Please note that the Area Pastoral Council will meet on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Family Education Center. Please enter through the red doors.

AREA FAITH COMMUNITY RECONCILIATION SERVICES NEXT SUNDAY: Next Sunday, December 4, we will offer two opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with communal prayer and private confession. We will gather at St. Pius X at 3:00 p.m. and at Holy Trinity at 5:00 p.m. We invite you to prepare for the coming of the Lord by turning to his mercy and asking him to dwell in your hearts and lives.

THANK YOU: We thank all of you who so generously participated in the St. John Paul II Area Faith Community’s Thanksgiving food drive. Your compassion and generosity helps to feed our hungry neighbors.

AREA FAITH CHRISTMAS GIVING PROJECTS HAVE BEGUN: We are collecting items for both the McLeod County Christmas Giving Project and the Heartland Girl’s ranch. We will be collecting items until Sunday, December 11. Your gift at this time of year can help others know the joy of Christ’s coming.

DIOCESAN MINISTRIES APPEAL: Thank you to all who have given to the Diocesan Ministries Appeal. If you have not had the opportunity to make your pledge or gift yet, envelopes are available at the back of the Church at Holy Family, in the new gathering area at Holy Trinity and in the kiosk in the gathering area of St. Pius X. You may return your pledge in the collection basket or simply drop it in the mail. You may also go online at www.dnu.org/diocesan-ministries-appeal and make your pledge or contribution there. Either way, your parish will receive full credit for your gift. Be assured that your gift will benefit those ministries that are vital to our Church as well as our own parish projects. Thank you for showing mercy to those in need.

YEAR-END GIVING: If you are planning your year-end giving remember that if you still need to take a required minimum distribution from your retirement or other plan, you can have that money go directly to a charity of your choice. You should talk to your financial advisor about the tax benefits of this way of giving. Please consider your parish in your year-end giving plan.

2017 HOLY TRINITY RAFFLE CALENDARS: Holy Trinity Raffle Calendars for 2017 are now on sale. There are more than 300 chances to win and the cost of the calendar is only $20.00—that is less than $.06 per chance!! Calendars are available from the parish office at Holy Trinity, Holy Family and St. Pius X as well as at Keaveny Pharmacy in Winsted. If you have questions about this raffle please call Elaine Kahle at 320-485-4495. Working together we can make this year’s Calendar Raffle the most successful in years.

2016 LIVING NATIVITY: see bulletin board for more information on how you can get involved in the Living Nativity or attend the Living Nativity.

DIOCESAN ADVENT PRAYER SERVICE: All families, especially those with children, are invited to attend an Advent Prayer Service with Bishop John M. LeVoir on Sunday, December 11. The service is at 4:00 p.m. in Morgan at the Church of St. Michael. This service is designed to help us focus on Advent and prepare for the true meaning of Christmas, centered on the birth of Jesus. Families are encouraged to bring the Baby Jesus figure from their home nativity set. The figure will be blessed by Bishop LeVoir individually as families come forward in procession. There will be a blessing on families and expectant mothers as they prepare for Jesus’ birth in their hearts. A “swaddling clothes” collection (blankets, sleepers, layette items, etc.) will be taken for babies in need and given to We Care in Morgan. Any cash donations will also be taken to We Care in Morgan. For more information, contact the diocesan evangelization and catechesis offices at 507-233-5325.

CHRISTMAS FLOWER AND DECORATION DONATIONS NEEDED: We need your assistance in decorating the church for Christmas. This year for our Christmas flower and decorations we have placed an envelope in your packets. If you wish to donate for flowers, place your donation in the envelope and fill out the back of the envelope and then drop it in the Sunday collection. You can drop your envelope in the collection at any time between next Sunday and December 16 if you wish your memorial to be listed in the Christmas bulletin
