SAINT TERESA OF JESUS (1515-1582) October 15 Let nothing disturb you; let nothing frighten you. Gi ed with a passionate spirit, young Teresa dreamed of conver ng Muslims and becoming a martyr. All things are passing; God never changes. But her mother’s death when Teresa was fourteen inspired lifelong de-vo on to Our Lady, and Teresa entered the Car-melites, Mary’s order, despite her father’s ob-jec ons and her own fragile health. Pa ence gains everything. Ini ally, she enjoyed her lax convent’s sociability and “busyness,” but mys -cal prayer and John of the Cross’s collabora on inspired her to reform the Carmelites. Whoever has God, lacks nothing. When her ideals en-countered resistance and brought suffering, she maintained her peace-—and humor. Discovered devouring le overs, she told her mildly scandal-ized nuns, “When I fast, I fast! When I eat, I eat!” To nuns demanding less work and more prayer in the convent schedule, she retorted: “What we really need around here are fewer starry eyes and more strong arms!” God alone is enough! Reflec ons with the Word of God from the priests of St. Cecilia Parish

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Read: 25:6-10a, Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20 Ma hew 22: 1-10

Many are called, few are chosen. Jesus reveals how intensely God the Father desires the salva on of all people as he prepares a wedding banquet to welcome us into the Kingdom of heaven. The first two

mes he sent out invita ons, everyone expressed regrets with excuses that ranged from indifference and busyness to a mysterious wicked-ness so vicious that it deserved eternal punishment.

Then the Father orders the servants to go and invite everyone they can find; good and bad. It does not ma er if they have a sinful past, because accep ng the invita on reveals they started on their way to-ward the banquet hall placing themselves on the path of repentance and new life. Christ’s work in the Sacrament of frequent Confession

will help them replace the filthy garments of sin and wretchedness, with the renewed Bap smal garment of divine love that inspires charity and good works. This heavenly banquet is the wedding of Christ and his Church and any person who goes to the table of the feast without the renewed Bap smal garment is someone who believes in God and the Church but totally lacks charity. That unfortunate person will join the previous others in eternal punishment. Yet, the Father extends this invita on many mes in our lives because the thought that the hurts and wounds caused by human evil could simply be forgo en without the need for repentance is deeply repugnant. Do not be afraid of the warning “many are called, few are chosen.” Accept the Father’s invita on to begin again and live Christ’s life of love with Confession and a endance at Holy Mass with the encouragement of St. John of the Cross who wrote, “at the end of the day, we will be examined in love”. Reflexiones de la Palabra de Dios por los Padres de la Iglesia Santa Cecilia

28 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Lee Isaías 25:6-10a, Filipenses 4:12-14, 19-20 Mateo 22: 1-10

Muchos son los llamados y pocos los escogidos. Jesús revela cuánto Dios Padre desea la salvación de todos sus hijos mientras prepara un banquete de boda para darnos la bienvenida al Reino de los cielos. Las dos primeras veces que envió invi-taciones, todos dieron excusas que iban desde la indiferencia hasta una misterio-sa maldad que merecía un cas go.

Entonces el Padre ordena a los siervos que vayan e inviten a todos los que puedan encontrar; bueno y malo. No importa si enen un pasado pecaminoso, porque aceptar la invitación revela que comenzaron en su camino hacia la sala de ban-quetes colocándose en el camino del arrepen miento y la nueva vida. La obra de Cristo en el sacramento de la confesión frecuente les ayudará a reemplazar las

sucias ves duras del pecado y la miseria, con la renovada ropa bau smal de amor divino que inspira cari-dad y buenas obras. Este banquete celes al es la boda de Cristo y su Iglesia y cualquier persona que vaya a la fiesta sin la ves menta bau smal renovada es alguien que cree en Dios y en la Iglesia, pero carece total-mente de caridad. Esa persona se unirá a los anteriores en cas go eterno.

No tenga miedo de la advertencia "muchos son los llamados, pocos los elegidos". Acepte la invitación del Padre para comenzar una vida nueva de amor en Cristo con la Confesión y la par cipación a la Santa Misa. Que nos anime lo que dijo San Juan de la Cruz: “al final del día, seremos examinados con amor”. Bendicio-nes para todos.

DIOS SE REVELA A LAS NACIONES ¡Qué maravillosas imágenes tenemos hoy del Reino de Dios! Isaías nos habla de un gran ban-quete –un banquete celes al– una fiesta con abun-dancia de pla llos suculentos y vinos exquisitos. Es una celebración del mismo Señor, explica Isaías, cuando Dios unirá a todas las naciones, secará toda lágrima, y destruirá la muerte para siempre. Enton-ces, también, la erra entera se regocijará en el Señor y se deleitará en la gracia salvadora de Dios.

Jesús, asimismo, habla del Cielo en términos de una fiesta. Aquí, el Reino de los cielos es como el banquete de bodas que el rey ofrece para su hi-jo. Es también un fes n de abundancia, donde ofre-ce terneros gordos. Pero muchos de los invitados no quieren asis r, así que el rey invita a cualquiera que quiera honrar a su hijo con su presencia. GOD REVEALED TO THE NATIONS What wonderful images we have today of the reign of God! Isaiah speaks to us of a great feast—a heavenly feast—a feast of abundance with rich foods and choice wines. It is the Lord’s own affair, Isaiah explains, when God will unite all na-

ons, dry every tear, and destroy death forever. Then, too, will the en re earth rejoice in the Lord and bask in God’s saving grace.

Jesus speaks of heaven in terms of a feast as well. Here, the kingdom of heaven is likened to a king’s wedding feast given for his son. This is a feast of abundance also, with the fa ened ca le pre-pared just so. But many of the people invited don’t want to come, so the king invites anyone who would honor his son by their presence there. Couples should refrain from setting a firm date until after they have called the office to discuss marriage plans. Weddings are celebrated Saturdays at 2pm. Quinceañeras Celebraciones son Sábados. Las quinceañeras tienen que haber recibido los sacramentos (por lo menos 1ra Comunión). Comuníquese con la ofi-cina para hacer una cita por lo menos 4 meses antes de la celebración.
