ST. BRUNO CATHOLIC CHURCH

Saint Bruno Parish News

Offertory Collection - This weekend there is a weekly

collection only. Next weekend there is a weekly collection and a second collection for Catholic University/Catholic Schools.

The Sanctuary Lamp acknowledging the Real Presence

of Christ in the tabernacle is burning this week in memory of Nick P. Peruzzi & Anna E. Stepich by Family.

Deepest sympathy to Ed Chamberlain on the death of

his wife, Susan; to Tom Derogatis, Diane Sipes, Cheryl Matson, Jennifer Borgo, Jason Matson and Sam Contic

on the death of their wife, mother, grandmother and sister Mary Jane. May the angels lead them into paradise, may the martyrs come to welcome them and take them to the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem.

RCIA Process: How does it work? Beginning Sunday, September 9, we meet for an hour and a half beginning at 9:15

a.m. in Jacob’s Well in the Parish Center. We examine the three readings for that Sunday. We study the liturgical year, the

colors associated with the different periods, the history of the Church, the parts of the Mass, the architecture of the worship space, what Catholics think of Mary, the Saints, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Interested? Please call the Parish Office (724-836-0690) for more information.

Parishioners have the opportunity to donate altar

flowers for weekend Masses. These may be offered In Memory of a loved one or In Honor of a family member or friend, or In Thanksgiving for blessing received. The Parish will order the flowers at a cost of $100.00 which includes two altar bouquets. Please call Amy at the Parish Office to make these arrangements.

The Mass - Bishop Robert Barron provides a DVD

program of study and reflection on The Mass. It will be offered at St. Bruno Parish on Wednesdays 10:00-11:15 a.m. and 6:00-7:15 p.m. Bishop Barron is an engaging speaker. He offers substantial information and lots to reflect upon as a group. We start on Wednesday, September 19. The program lasts 7 weeks and is free. All are welcome; bring a friend! A study book is available for use with the program, but not necessary. The program does not depend on it. If you wish to purchase one anyway, the cost of the book is $25.00, which needs to be given at Amy in the parish office by Monday, September

10. To register your interest in attending either session, please call the parish office by Tuesday, September 18.

We ask the Divine Physician for healing and prayer-fully remember the following parishioners, family members, and friends: Mary Alcorn, Mary Aleo, Ange-lo “Nick” Alesi, John Anderson, Patti Baird, Walter & Carol Bialecki, M. Birnie, Donna Brooks, Martina Castle, Carl D’Angelo, Dorothy Daversa, Kathy Davis, Laura DeSantis, Rosie & Tim Domnasky, Edie Fallavollita, Stella Felbaum, Mike Ferchak, Denise Ferrett, Sandy Fiore, Tim Fox, Ruth G., Jeanne Gannon, Marsha Gar-ner, Wanda Giernacky, Mary Goodman, Judy Graham, Joann Grande, Bonnie Robinson Hamilton, Marion Har-rold, Patty Hart, Rita Herd, Mila Grace Huygens, Kim-mie Johnson, Vincent Kanala, Mary Karazsia, Christine Kells & Family, Susan Kistler, Gary Kozain, Maralynne Kubic, Jacqueline Landis, Nancy Laux, Jim Levendusky, Mary Levendusky, Ron Levendusky, Della Lewis, Mi-chael Long, Joe Maline, Johnny Martinez, Rose Masarik, Louise Mirolli, Ophelia Murray, John O., Jerry Orban & Family, Steve & Mary Orbon, Barb P., Ann Petroy, Sally Plevelich, Dolly Queer, Mary Radisi, Mike Redigan, Becky Rule, Eleanor Sabol, Father Chrysostom Schlimm, O.S.B., Judy Shaffer, Otto Sichler, Hawkeye Sonnie, Vic-ki Stofko, Paul & Nancy Stokes, Virginia Strizzi, Patsy & Eleanor Testa, Lena Tollari, Helena Tucci, Maria Tucci, Frances Vidakovich, Bailie Zilli, Genevieve Zubalik. News Around the Diocese . . .

Grief overcomes us with pain and heartache. It catches

hold on us for any event that includes significant loss in our life. Death of a loved one automatically sees grief en-ter our lives. Separation or divorce, abortion, stillbirth, miscarriage, news of infertility, terminal illness, or loss of health in any form can also bring significant loss. Grief Recovery is an internationally recognized 8-week step-by-step process for recovery from grief that can return a per-son to a capacity for happiness. To inquire about Grief Recovery, you may contact Sister Edie Strong by emailing her at [email protected].

Grief Support Group - A grief support group, although

different from Grief Recovery, can also be a help to per-sons struggling with grief over loss. A grief support group is being offered weekly at Saint Pius X Parish in Mt. Pleas-ant. The group meets Monday mornings at 10:00 begin-ning Monday, August 20. Sessions will last one hour and will be held in the St. Pius X Parish Hall (the old school). Come and bring a friend. All are welcome!

Registration continues for Pathways 2018-19. This is the

25th year of Pathways, the diocese’s commitment to adult faith formation and nurturing mature discipleship. There are 12 evening sessions, three workshops and a closing retreat. LITURGICAL ROLES

THIS WEEK

The Lord’s Laughter

“A joyful heart is a good medicine, but a broken

spirit dries up the bones.” - Proverbs 17:22

Joanne read in Vogue magazine that a milk bath

does wonders for your skin. So she wrote a note asking the milkman to leave 100 bottles of milk for

her next delivery. Eddie, the milkman, saw the note, and thought there must be an error in the number of zeros.

Therefore he knocked on the door and asked Jo-anne, to clarify the order.

Joanne confirmed that she wants 100 bottles to fill her bath. The milkman then asked, ‘Do you want it

pasteurized ’Joanne replied 'No, just up to my neck'.

WEEKLY MASS SCHEDULE

In this Sunday's Gospel, the conflict

escalates in the Bread of Life Discourse.

Confusion is mounting in the crowd.

"How can this man give us his flesh to

eat?" Their minds were thinking literal-

ly, not mystically. Jesus doesn't seem to

help, however, and only drives his point

home with more emphasis. "Unless you eat the flesh of the

Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life with-

in you." Jesus would later institute the Eucharist at the

Last Supper. There he would definitively establish the

sacramental reality in which bread and wine become sub-

stantially his own Body and Blood. We celebrate this sac-

rament in the Mass.

Perhaps we do not always understand what we receive.

"My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink." What

is the essence of food and drink? Food nourishes our bod-

ies, providing essential calories for our survival. Water is

used throughout the body to cushion joints, regulate body

temperature, and protect sensitive tissues like the brain.

When we receive the Eucharist, we receive the spiritual

equivalent of these essential elements. Like water, th e

Eucharist strengthens the sanctifying grace moving

through us. "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood

remains in me and I in him." The Eucharist connects us

intimately to Jesus and confirms our union with him.

That is why we abstain from the Eucharist while in a

state of mortal sin. It would be a contradiction and deep

disrespect to these words of Jesus. To receive the Body

and Blood of Jesus is not a right but a gift we receive with

deep humility.

As we receive the Bread of Life, grace strengthens our

love, separates us from sin -- even wiping away venial sins

-- unifies us with the universal Church, and helps commit

us to humble service. Together we are nourished for our

mission in the world!

The Flowers on the Altar are in loving memory of Jerry Levesque

by his loving family.
