The Leeward IslandsMay 4-14, 201

St. Martin, St. Barts, Anguilla

The Islands of St. Martin/St. Maartin, St. Barts and Anguilla are located in the Leeward Antilles or Leeward Islands. About 100 miles east of The Virgin Islands, this area is known for fresh breezes and wonderful contrasts between the islands. St. Martin is two countries in one island. The Dutch half dates back to the 17th century. Its capital, Philipsburg, has friendly taverns on the waterfront. The French half is very picturesque and has excellent food, shopping for imports from Europe, and sidewalk cafés in Marigot. St. Barts is quite chic, with numerous interesting shops and restaurants in the capital city of Gustavia. Anguilla, a few miles north of St. Martin is British and less developed but has excellent diving and snorkeling in its underwater national parks.

The Boats Spinnaker has reserved a Moorings 48.4 monohull and two Sunsail 444 catamarans and will add more boats as they become needed. Each boat has 4 double cabins, each with it’s own head w/shower and electric flushing toilet. The boats also have generators for AC power and air conditioning. See - www.sunsail.com/fleet/sunsail-444-4-cabin-catamaran-yacht for 444 details and www.moorings.com/charter-fleet/new-moorings-484-4-cabin-monohull for the 48.4 .

Dining We’ll generally be having breakfast and lunch aboard and dining out for dinner. Each boat’s crew will meet sometime in March to order provisions and beverages online. The cost of food and beverages are shared among each boat’s crew although the cost of alcoholic beverage will be shared only by those who drink. There is a supermarket at Gustavia and stores along the way for re-provisioning, as well.

! ! ! ActivitiesLocally, the French territory of St. Barts (St. Barthelemy) is the most sophisticated of the three islands with many high quality restaurants and shops. It also has uncrowded beaches and places to snorkel and scuba dive. Motorscooters are a popular way to get around and are available for rent. Marigot is a free port in the French territory of St. Marteen and a bustling town for shopping and dining. Anguilla is a somewhat sleepy British West Indian island with a wonderful system of national parks that are ideal for snorkeling, diving and enjoying nature. It also contains many fine restaurants and small but high end resorts.

ItineraryA non-stop flight from the east coast arrives at Juliana International Airport, Saint Maartin (Dutch territory) at around 2:15 p.m. Taxi to the charter base at Oyster Pond. In the afternoon we’ll get checked out and board the boats staying overnight at the marina.Saturday - Wrap up any loose ends of checking out the boats. Depart Oyster Pond to sail to Columbier Bay in St. Barts. Anchor in Columbier. Relax, swim etc. Dinner aboard Boats.Sunday - Relocate to Gustavia for shopping, diving, dining, etc. Motor scooter & rental cars are available. Visit beaches around the island.Monday - There’s a wonderful crepe shop for breakfast in Gustavia and plenty more to do during the day.Tuesday - Open for options to stay in Gustavia or relocate back to Columbier or return to St. Martin base if needed.Wednesday - Depart for Road Bay, Anguilla. Skippers report to customs and immigration immediately at the government office near the dinghy dock with boat papers and crew passports. Be sure to follow customary flag etiquette. Thursday - Relocate to Crocus Bay and anchor. It’s right next to Little Bay; a national marine park with excellent snorkeling. Dinner ashore.

Friday - Sail to Grand Case, St. Martin (French side) and dinghy ashore to check out the restaurants before dinner. There are dozens of them in this small settlement.Saturday - Return boats to Oyster Pond by check in time. Guests who want to return home on Saturday can taxi directly to the airport. Those who want to stay the night before flying home can taxi to the hotel. (Good option for West Coast travelers)Sunday - Taxi to the airport. Croatia Bareboat FlotillaSeptember 8 - 17, 2017

With a sunny Mediterranean climate, Croatia is a spectacular cruising ground with abundant anchorages, marinas and ancient cities. Dalmatia is the largest tourist region and has three ancient cities: medieval Zadar dating back 3,000 years; cosmopolitan Split, with a 1,700 year old Diocletian palace, and historic Dubrovnik to the far south. At the center of this cruising ground is the base in Agana served by the nearby Split Airport. Sailing from Agana to the north are the rocky islands of the Kornati National Park and south the vinyards and olive trees of the Dalmationa Islands. We’ll sail from Agana Harbor near the historic medieval town of Trogir. Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The enchanting islands of Solta, Vis St. Klement, Hvar, and Brac are in the heart of the Dalmatia and all within easy sailing distance.

The Boats The boats are 2 Sunsail 444 catamarans and 1 Sunsail 454 catamaran. These boats have 4 double cabins, each with it’s own private head. (See www.sunsail.com/search/boats for details about the boats.)

Activities in CroatiaCroatia is a wonderful place to explore by boat. Island life centers around the harbors where there are many (restaurants) and shops. People can sit back and relax in the open air tavernas for hours. The food is excellent with many local specialities. There are also many spots to visit with ruins dating back thousands of years. Exploring ashore can be done by foot, taxi or in rental cars and scooters. But the best way to explore Croatia is by sea.

Dining Dining out in Croatia is a major part of the whole experience. Unlike our other cruises where boats are stocked with extensive provisions, we’ll be taking most meals ashore in the numerous restaurants located at every port. Good places to eat are plentiful in Croatian harbors.

Itinerary We recommend arriving at Split by Sept. 8 and staying the night in Togir prior to the charter. The base at Agana is about a 20 minute taxi ride from Trogir. Plan to be at the base by 2:00 pm on Saturday, Sept 9th.SundayFinish up last minute preparations and then set sail for the town of Milna on the Island of Brac. This is another medieval city where the boats tie up right to the main streets of town. Monday - Sail to Palmizana. Palmizana is a beautiful marina with floating docks located in a protected basin in a park like setting. There is a nice restaurant and several bars after a short hike on the other end of the island.

TuesdayLeave the boat tied up at Palmizana and take the water taxi to Hvar City on the island of Hvar. Hike up to the fort overlooking the town and have dinner in town before heading back to Palmizana.WednesdayOn the western side of the island is Komiza-Korcula (Vela Luka). It’s a small town with a harbor that is sheltered from the wind. Korcula is the island where Marco Polo was born. His birthday is celebrated in September.ThursdaySail to Solta. There are two choices at the eastern tip of the island; a marina at Maslinica or Sesula Bay an undeveloped spot just next to Maslinica.FridayGet back to the base Friday afternoon to be ready to disembark by 9:00 am the next morning.SaturdayNeed to be off the boat with all our gear by 11:00 am. Continue on to the rest of your European vacation or head home.

Crew Meetings Oct. 2017Each boat should meet to complete their provision and beverage orders by Oct. 1st. (There’s nothing like doing a food and beverage order to help people get to know each other.)

British Virgin Islands FlotillaNov. 30 - Dec. 10, 2017

The unspoiled islands of the British Virgins are renowned as one of the finest cruising locations in the world. Warm trade winds, tranquil bays and crystal clear water make the BVI’s a sailors disneyland. There are over 20 islands in the BVI’s rich with history. You’ll find nice harbors, protected anchorages, restaurants, shops, great diving and snorkeling and much more. Sailing in paradise is a place most sailors only dream about and few get there. Spinnaker not only makes it possible but makes it easy. We take care of all arrangements including boat charter, transfers, provisions, accommodations and will help with travel arrangements. We have been making the dream come true in B.V.I. every year since 1986.

The Boats Our group will use late model 41’ to 51’ Moorings sloops and Catamarans. These yachts are equipped with 3 and 4 double staterooms for up to 10 passengers. We’ll limit the number of people to keep it extra comfortable for everybody.

Diving in the BVI’s Beautiful diving spots are abundant in the British Virgin Islands and getting to them couldn’t be easier. The dive store at the Moorings provides rental scuba equipment for those who want to dive regularly during the week. Refills are available at many harbors. Dive boats also come out to any location by request. The most famous diving spot is the wreck of the Royal

Mail Packet Steamer “Rhone”. It lies in 30 to 80 feet of water after sinking in a hurricane in 1867. This wreck was used in filming “The Deep”. A famous snorkeling spot is at Treasure Point at Norman Island. This place has the submerged caves that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson in writing Treasure Island. There are many beautiful reefs too, each unique and waiting to be explored. Experienced snorkelers who aren’t certified for diving can take an introductory course. Although you don’t get certification, you can dive during the remainder of the cruise. Student divers (from home) may do their open water certification during the cruise.

Dining The food order is customized for each boat. Crew will get together and choose their own provisions. This includes breakfasts, lunches, snacks and any dinners that would be cooked aboard the boat. Members will get together before the trip to fill out the order forms. Each boat will be responsible for their food and beverage cost. A transom barbecue and a fully equipped galley are provided for cooking aboard although most dinners will be had ashore.

Itinerary Depart SFO or SJC at the latest on Thursday evening, Dec. 1. Arrive at Tortola Friday afternoon after connecting in St. Thomas or San Juan. Chart briefings are at 4 pm & 7 pm on Friday. You have the option to stay in St. Thomas Thursday night if you can leave a day earlier.

Saturday - Finish checking out the boats and sail to anchorage at Marina Cay. There’s great snorkeling across the anchorage at Camanoe Island and a nice lookout at the top of the Cay. Sunday - Go to the Baths early enough to catch a mooring buoy. Explore the beaches and grottos amid huge granite boulders. Continue after lunch to Gorda Sound in the afternoon and moor at Bitter End Yacht Club or Saba Rock. Monday - At BEYC you can rent sailing dinghies and small catamarrans to have fun with or go on a dive trip in the morning. There are many shops and boutiques here. Tuesday - Sail up to Anegada. Unlike other islands, this one is a flat coral atoll. It’s famous for the amount of lobsters inhabiting the reef surrounding the island. Wednesday – The longest passage is to Cane Garden Bay or Jost Van Dyke, 26 nautical miles from Anagada. Jost is known for its authentic West Indian atmosphere with quaint restaurants, a little store and an ice cream parlor. Thursday - Stop at Soper’s Hole for shopping along the way to Norman Island for the night. Norman Island is the place that inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Friday – Motor out to The Indians before breakfast if you want to snag a mooring buoy there. Have breakfast and snorkel on the rocks. Sail to Cooper Island to spend the night. Cooper Island Beach Club is a great restaurant but make your reservations early. Saturday – Aim to return boats to The Moorings by 11 a.m. Check in the boats and have lunch. Then fly home or ferry to St. Thomas to stay the night for a Sunday morning flight out.
