PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Thank you to everyone across our wonderful GEPS community. The level of support you are providing our students and staff during these tricky times, is truly amazing. Throughout the past two weeks I have been so pleased to see the incredible things our students are doing at home, during this remote learning phase. I know I have said this a few times, however, parents, please know you are doing enough. Spending time with your children, looking after their mental wellbeing during this unusual time, is as important as the academic learning you are also supporting them to do. As we would say in the classroom, please give yourself a pat on the back for doing a great job! Zoom with Mr Lewis Week 9 As I am regularly looking in Google and SeeSaw

classrooms, I keep seeing so many interesting work

samples that our students are creating. One of the

aspects we are all missing by not having our

students at school is the opportunity to get behind

them and celebrate their learning.

To keep this positive connection going, I will be holding Zoom sessions for each grade throughout next week. During this time, students can come together and see some of their other friends outside of their roll class. These sessions will be a lovely way for each grade to come together in a time of separation. Students will be invited to share some of their school work that they are proud of, or, they can tell everyone about a special project they are working on at home during this time.

The table below shows when each grade’s Zoom will be held. Please try to log in 10 minutes before the time allocated. There will be myself and either Mrs McVey or Mrs Blatch in each Zoom session. Details will be posted the morning of the session in either Google Classroom or Seesaw, whichever your child’s class is using.

Please use the following link to access the Zoom session. These details will also be provided in SeeSaw and Google classrooms for easy access.

of students through a “sensible and managed”

approach. Please read this note as a method of

breaking down specific information regarding GEPS,

as I understand it at this point in time.

1. What does this mean for GEPS

If NSW Government imposed stay-at-home orders are

lifted across Lake Macquarie before Monday 25th

October, students at GEPS will return to school with

level 3 restrictions in place. Currently, the stay at

home orders in place for our Local Government Area

are advised until Friday 10th September. As part of

level 3 restrictions, NSW health has recommended

that all primary students be encouraged to wear a

mask when at school and all staff are mandated to be

wearing a mask.

2. What does it mean if stay at home orders remain in place after Friday 10th September? If at anytime before Monday 25th October, our LGA stay at home lockdown is lifted, students will return under the below level 3 restrictions. However, if a LGA imposed lockdown remains until Monday the 25th October or longer, the NSW Department of Education will implement a staggered return beginning on this date. Students would then return to face-to-face learning with the NSW Health approved COVID safe setting on school sites in the following order:

• From 25th October – Kindergarten and year 1

students • From 1st November – Year 2,6 and 11 • From 8th November – Years 3,4,5,7,8,9 and 10

will return

Once again, thank you for everything that you are doing to support your child and our school, during this time. Tim Lewis – Principal
