ABOUT THE AREA
The Makgadikgadi Pans span 16,000 km² (9,942 square miles) and are amongst
the largest salt pans in the world. Remnants of an ancient lake, the pans are
interspersed with sandy desert and occasional vegetation. One of Africa’s biggest
zebra populations makes this vista of white sand and salt their home. When rains
fall during the wet season, the pans are filled with water and attract large flocks of
flamingos, as well as big herds of zebra, springbok and wildebeest, followed
closely by predators, making for fantastic game viewing.
ACCOMMODATION
Hidden halfway between the Okavango Delta and the Central Kalahari Game
Reserve, the camp sits perched on a 100-foot cliff overlooking the Boteti River and
the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, just ninety minutes by road from Maun.
Activities at Meno a Kwena include day trips into Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans
National Parks, San Bushmen guided walking excursions, a floating hide, sunset
and game viewing cruise on the river, and sleep outs on the pans during the dry
winter months.
The camp boasts nine brand new tents with all of the modern comforts and
amenities, including en-suite facilities and private verandahs overlooking the river.
The main area meanwhile offers abundant seating areas, a pool, a bar, a lounge
space and a dining area, with a firepit at the centre of it all. During the dry season
of May to November, Africa’s second largest zebra migration makes its way
through. The area is also home to many desert antelope species found nowhere
else in northern Botswana, as well as white rhino, hippo, giraffe, lion, leopard,
hyena, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, and more.

ITINERARY
For the next 2 nights you will be staying at Hyena Pan in a Tent on a Fully
Inclusive basis.
ABOUT THE AREA
The Okavango Delta, one of the most incredible wilderness sanctuaries in Africa,
is 15,000 sq km of pristine water channels, lagoons and islands. Each year,
floodwaters flow from the central African highlands over 1,000 km away into the
Delta to create a wondrous wetland paradise within a desert. The Okavango is
home to large numbers of big game and other wildlife and birdlife, such as
sitatunga, wild dog, and wattled crane. The Okavango ecosystem sustains large
numbers of elephants, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and it is currently one
of the few successful sanctuaries in Africa for both black and white rhino.
ACCOMMODATION
Hyena Pan is a tranquil and comfortable tented camp located in the vast Khwai
Private Reserve. The reserve borders some of Botswana’s finest game viewing
areas, with Moremi National Park to the south and Chobe National Park to the
east. Hyena Pan sits within a cathedral of mopane trees overlooking a natural pan
which provides a steady source of water for the area’s abundant wildlife. Guests
can take day and night game drives as well as bush walks, or spend time in the
sunken wildlife viewing hides nearby.
Guests are accommodated in comfortable tents with en-suite facilities. The main
area is open plan, with seating and lounge areas, a dining space, a bar, and a
rim-flow splash pool that’s the ideal spot from which to watch wildlife. Much of the
area’s wildlife such as hippo, elephant and buffalo will come to drink from the water
in front of camp, but other species including African wild dog, water mongoose and
lion can also be seen through the area along with plenty more.

Reserve, one of the best-managed concessions in the greater Okavango Delta.
With only 8, Meru-style tents, The Jackal & Hide is an intimate camp with an
emphasis on hospitality and comfort. Each room is a cosy retreat from the
elements and all have wonderfully large king-size beds, writing desks, cool
en-suite bathrooms and private verandas with views across the shimmering
grasslands. At the main area, a sunken lounge and fire pit take pride of place and
make the perfect spot for that first morning cuppa or an early-evening G&T. Under
the thatch, the bar, lounge and dining areas are subtly stylish, dotted with sunny
cushions and black and white artworks.
Activities offered in the camps are morning, afternoon and evening game drives,
mokoro excursion or boat trip (water levels permitting), sleeping under the stars at
the Skybeds platforms (comes at extra cost and must be pre-booked) and a visit to
one of the ground level hides for truly up-close-and-personal encounters with the
wildlife. For keen photographers, there is a resident photo guide in camp and
specially-adapted photographic vehicles are available.
