Safaa AlsetBorn in 1974, Safaa Alset studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University and graduated in 1997. She worked as a multimedia graphic design, before deciding to start her own artistic career. She started working with metal, iron and copper as a means to create original art pieces. Her works stand out for their rough texture and design.

Her first solo exhibition “Commedia dell’Arte” was held at the French Cultural Center in Damascus in 1998. It consisted of six Black and White paintings (2X2m) and six masks (Collage), on the theme of tragedy. Earlier in 1994, she had participated in the Joan Miro workshop and group exhibition that was held at the F.C.C. in Damascus.

In 2003, Safaa had her second solo exhibition “Figures” in Maktab Anbar, where she presented sketches made of iron in large scale, transforming the hard nature of the metal into art that is alive and flowing.

In 2007, she held another exhibition at Ayyam Gallery in Damascus, entitled “Women”, where she brilliantly succeeded again in bringing metal to life, by presenting different sculptures of women in multi-spirited moods.

About the showThe subject of the current exhibition is the high-heel shoe, which is simply and comically entitled “Shoe”, a double entendre in Arabic meaning “what do you want?” A question that we use many times, and so the link appears clearly since both are being used in daily life. The concept of shoes as it manifests itself beyond the conventional meaning of the item is explored in this exhibition.

Safaa often incorporates metal in her art works. The artist has opted for this material again as her preferred choice for her new concept “Shoes”. With this particular concept, Safaa challenges the common perception of metal from being spiritless, and hard to handle. Further still, she commands it into submission to its feminine side.

Safaa sculptures reveal her personal relationship with shoes. The Fascinating bond between women and shoes, the way they express femininity, their sense of fashion, their representation of the social status has long intrigued Safaa. This exhibition is about this secret relationship. It is about the endless hidden stories of women and their aspirations, about their backgrounds and societies and what their shoes can tell us about them.

This exhibition will also exploit the affinity that exists between Consumers and this particular product and by doing so she makes us look beyond the surface.

عن المعرضلطالما جذبني أن أعمل على موضوع المرأة , ليس ألنني امرأة فقط بل لما تخبئه من خبايا وألغاز

وطاقات كبيرة وصفات متناغمة ومتناقضة وأفكار ال تنتهي.

فكان الحذاء ذو الكعب العالي هو موضوعي هذه المره ألنه صديق أزلي ومعشوق ألغلبية النساء وشيء تستخدمه المرأه يوميا وتقضي في هذا الحذاء نصف حياتها.

لهذا أسميت المعرض ) شو ؟( كسؤال نسأله مرات عديدة فالحذاء والسؤال شو؟ هما لصيقان بحياتنا اليومية .

الشبه بين األنثى وحذائها كبير طبعا ليس شكليا وإنما سيكولوجيا واجتماعيا وفكريا....

فمن الممكن ان نأحذ فكرة عن الحالة الشخصية للمرأة وعن ميولها واهتماماتها واتجاهها السلوكي والفكري من خالل حذائها ، فيمكن للحذاء ان يكون بمثابة عين ثالثة توصلنا الى لغة خفية أو واضحة

أحيانا.

كما ان المرأة تفّرغ طاقة حين ترتدي حذاء تختاره بحسب مزاجها أو حاجتها لشعور معين فمن هذا المدخل حاولت أن أعبر عن بعض خصائص وقدرات المرأة بأعمال تمثل أحذية بكعوب عالية وكأن كل

واحد منها هو حالة مختلفة ألنثى فمنها مايدل على االغواء ، الحرية , الحالة االجتماعية أو النفسية ، العذاب ، الراحة ، المظهر الزائف أو الوضوح.

تأتي بعض االحذية بتشكيل أستلهمه من الطبيعة بعشبها وورودها وطيورها وهي استعارة ذات محتوى جمالي وأنثوي في ذات الوقت . مما يجعل الحذاء في نهاية المطاف جزء من جماليات

الطبيعة كما هو جزء من جماليات وإغواءات النساء.

صفاء الست2011

صفاء الستالفنانة السورية صفاء الست من مواليد 1974، حاصلة على شهادة في الفنون الجميلة من جامعة

دمشق، 1997.عملت في مجال التصميم لفترة وجيزة، ومن ثم قررت أن تبدأ مسيرتها الفنية، متخذة من مادة الحديد أساسًا لخلق قطع فريدة من األعمال الفنية.

كان معرضها الفردي األول »كوميديا دي الرتي« في المركز الثقافي الفرنسي في دمشق،1998 مزيج من ستة وجوه )أقنعة( مصنوعة من حديد وورق »كوالج« وست لوحات باألبيض واألسود وجميعها

كانت مستوحاة من موضوع المأساة. وفي وقت سابق من العام 1994، شاركت في ورشة عمل »خوان ميرو« ومعرض جماعي في المركز الثقافي الفرنسي في دمشق.

في العام 2003، قدمت المعرض الفردي الثاني تحت عنوان »أشكال« في مكتب عنبر، حيث قدمت فيه شخوص من الحديد بأحجام كبيرة، في محاولة منها إلعادة تشكيل الطبيعة الصلبة والقاسية

لمعدن الحديد وإظهاره بطريقة فنية جميلة تزخر بالحياة.

وأما أحدث أعمالها ففي العام 2007، في صالة أيام غاليري، دمشق تحت عنوان »نساء« وأبدعت في إعادة إحياء الحديد وتشكيله لتعبر فيه عن نساء في حاالت روحانية مختلفة.
