Further, with ever increasing efficiency of lasers with reduced costs and adoption of different tools of optics, powder/wire-nozzles, monitoring tools, 3D-modelling and CAD/CAM tools integrated to wide spectrum of workstations, application of these technologies in aerospace, medical, automotive, and various engineering sectors is increasing rampantly. Precision in spacial and temporal distribution of laser beam further enabled to add repair and reclamation technology in niche sectors of aerospace, energy and engineering sectors for worn/used parts. The present course with series of lectures on these technologies enable today’s working professionals in the field to understand right from basic fundamental concepts to application in actual industrial environment. Engineers/Technologists/Managers/Professionals in the field not only gain requisite knowledge to improve their technical competence in the field but also to apply in solving the demanding problems faced in the industry. Recent advances in the field such as powder-bed fusion based AM, extreme high-speed deposition processing, high-deposition efficiency cladding, inner-bore cladding, producing novel coatings with combination of different methods and materials with live examples will be presented and discussed. Laser based metal deposition and additive-manufacturing technologies such as laser cladding, laser alloying, laser glazing and laser-assisted 3D printing has gained widespread importance in recent times due to their distinct advantages over conventional techniques in applying across the entire gamut of manufacturing and engineering industries. With ever increasing demand of alloys with multi-functional requirements as well as novel alloys with myriad of combinations possible with onus to enhance efficiency and productivity, these technologies are pushing the limits to improve performance, reliability and life.
