POINTS TO PONDER Reflect on Sunday’s readings: Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40; Romans 8:14-17; Matthew 28:16-20

• How have you experienced the presence of God in the ordinary and everyday?

• What are the implications for society if God is not just Creator but “Father”?

• How can we “teach” others about God without using theological language?

Dear Friends,

The liturgical season of Ordinary Time resumes this weekend with the celebration of the feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Today’s feast invites us to reflect upon one of the most profound truths of our Christian faith – that God is three – and one. We come to believe, through Jesus, that God is Father, Son and Spirit. We have a natural desire to comprehend this truth completely, but when we engage this thought process, we quickly realize that our human intellect and reasoning powers limit us from entering the immensity of this doctrine. We accept, in faith that we will never come to the end of understanding who God is. It is a lifelong engagement, where sacred mystery and everyday life intersect.

This weekend the Church presents us with the big picture of who God is – the Trinity – God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. When we get caught up in this mystery we encounter God as pure love – “God’s love has been poured into our hearts” as St. Paul states. As this encounter deepens, we then find the rationale and motivation to work on our personal growth in Christian living. As we deepen our relationship with God, our conviction to Christian living is strengthened as is our service and commitment to others. I pray that these days of Ordinary Time be a period of exploring and encountering the mystery of the Trinity for all of us, and in so doing, we experience the tremendous love of God.

Our nation celebrates Memorial Day this weekend. We remember all our deceased loved ones – parents, grandparents, siblings, children and friends whose lives meant so much to us. We pray for them and cherish the memories. We also remember our veterans who served our country faithfully. May we always remember their sacrifices, strength and valor. I hope we can maintain the value and meaning of Memorial Day. This weekend can easily become just a long holiday weekend, the start of summer or a time to catch up on errands and household chores but this weekend is much more than that and should always remain so. Let’s honor our deceased loved ones and veterans by visiting their graves, saying a prayer, participating in a Memorial Day event or gather with loved ones to review old family photos. We should never forget those who contributed so much to our lives and our country. Peace and blessings this weekend.

“Every family needs a prayerful giant, and parishes are like large families in many ways. Every parish needs some prayerful giants to surround the parish with prayer.” Taken from Rediscovering the Rosary by Matthew Kelly. Our parish is so blessed in many ways. We are growing and dynamic. Can you be a prayerful giant for our parish

this week by remembering the parish in your prayers?

DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that when Christ promised in John 14 to send “another Paraclete” (advocate), the Holy Spirit, He was revealing to us the doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity? Previously, Jesus had spoken to His disciples about His Father in Heaven, and also said about Himself, “…No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son..” (Matt. 11:27), but through Christ’s words promising the sending of the Advocate/Holy Spirit, we come to know that our God is one God in three divine persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus spoke of sending “the Spirit of Truth” who would dwell with and in His disciples, teaching them everything and reminding them of all He had told them (John 14:26). These words of Christ are the basis for our belief that the Catholic Church, through the Pope and Magisterium, is and has always been guided in truth by the Holy Spirit. It is the guarantee that we can look confidently for the truth in the teachings of our Church and trust that these teachings reflect the will of our triune God.

Summer Neighborhood Masses

We hope to celebrate Mass again this summer at parishioners’ homes. If you are willing to host a “Neighborhood Mass” or have questions please contact Betty at 978-373-1281.

FACILITIES UPDATE We have recently discovered that our air conditioning system at Sacred Hearts Church has had a serious failure and is not operational. We are working with outside consultants to determine how best to handle the situation and get us up and running as soon as possible. We believe that the system will be back in service between mid to late June. Please be patient as we find a solution to this issue. As always we thank

you for your support and understanding.

A MEMORIAL DAY PRAYER Good and gracious God,

On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the families of our fallen troops and all our beloved dead, fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace. In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
