Bulletin Column for the 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Pearl of great price is indeed, a pearl of great price. The pearl of great price is a treasure which comes from the heart. The unselfishness of pure love which Christ has given us by His ultimate sacrifice is the pearl of great price. The pearl of great price is the love of God implanted in our hearts which longs to be uncovered and shared with our brothers and sisters. Some of us search and search most of our lives, looking everywhere but in our heart. Once we discover our treasure, let us then share it with our brothers and sisters as freely and graciously as Christ shares His love with us. God bless you all, Fr. Guy

Fr. Paolo Cumin Bio

Fr. Paolo Cumin, FSCB. Fr. Paolo was born in Trieste – Italy in 1973. Fr. Paolo went to school in his hometown and studied math in college. After gradua-tion in 1997 he joined the seminary of the Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo in Rome. In 2001 he was ordained deacon and as-signed to the mission of the Fraternity in Taiwan. He spent his year as deacon learning the language – Mandarin Chinese – and helping at a local parish. Fr. Paolo became a priest in 2002 and became lecturer at the Department of Italian Studies at the “Fu Jen Catholic University” of Taipei, Taiwan. Besides teaching Italian language, during his years as missionary in Taiwan he also helped as parochial vicar at St. Francis Xavier parish in Taishan, Taiwan. After ten years in Taiwan he went back to Italy and was assigned to the mission of the Fraternity of St. Charles in Boston. He ar-rived in Boston at the beginning of 2012 and taught math and religion at Cristo Rey High School in Dorchester for 18 months. In June 2013 Cardinal Sean O’Malley entrusted the pastoral care of at St. Clement parish in Medford/Somerville to the Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo. Fr. Paolo moved to St. Clement where he served as parochial vicar and teacher at the parish high school. He taught math and religion at St. Clement High for four years. After the parish school had closed in June 2017, Fr. Paolo served as parochial vicar at the Beverly Catholic Collaborative in Bev-erly, MA for 9 months. He was subsequently appointed Chaplain at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Voyage in the seaport district in Boston. Currently he’s serving at the seaport Shrine and in residence at St. Clement in Medford/Somerville. The Priestly Fraternity of the Missionary of Saint Charles Borromeo (FSCB)

The Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo The Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo is a society of Apostolic life (a community similar to a religious or-der) founded in Rome in 1985 by Fr. Massimo Camisasca, a priest originally from Milan and current bishop of the Diocese of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla in Italy. At the time of its foundation the Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo counted seven priests and ten seminarians: there are now 140 priest members of Fraternity and 33 seminarians currently studying in Rome. The Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo is connected to a greater community in the Church: its priests and seminarians are also part of the lay movement of Communion and Liberation (CL). Fr. Camisasca is a former student of Fr. Luigi Giussani, a priest from the Archdiocese of Milan who founded the movement of CL. The spirituality of Communion and Liberation constitutes the backbone of the life and pastoral ministry of the St. Charles Fraternity whose motto is: “Passion for the glory of Christ”. The Fraternity of St. Charles has a community in the archdiocese of Boston, a house with three Italian priests: Fr. Paolo Cumin, appointed as the next pastor of Sacred Heart in East Boston; Fr. Luca Brancolini, teacher at Newman High School in Back Bay; Fr. Michele Benetti, teacher at Bishop Fenwick in Peabody. A fourth priest, Fr. Luis Miguel Hernandez is scheduled to join the community soon. Fr. Paolo, Fr. Luca, Fr. Michele and Fr. Luis Miguel will establish their community and live together in the Sacred Heart rectory. The house in Boston is one of the 4 houses of the Fraternity in the US and one of the 26 houses located in four continents: America, Africa, Europe and Asia. This is just an initial introduction for you to familiarize with the Fraternity of St. Charles. There will be many more opportunities get to know each other! Meanwhile if you’re interested in knowing more about the Fra-ternity of St. Charles and the movement of Communion and Liberation you can visit their websites: http://sancarlo.org/en/; https://english.clonline.org.

Archdiocesan Guidelines for Parish Reopening If you can bring your own bottle of hand sanitizer to the church, you should. Otherwise, sanitizer will be provided

by the parish and positioned at the entry to the church. All parishioners need to wear masks, except for the following exceptions:

Children under the age of two should not wear masks. Parents should judge for children between the ages of two and five whether they should wear a mask. All people who claim an exemption because of health can forego wearing a mask. They do not have

to provide documentation. The priest and others with him in the sanctuary do not need to wear masks in the sanctuary as long as

strict socially distancing is maintained. They do have to wear masks when assisting with the distribu-tion of Holy Communion.

DURING MASS There will be no processions at the Masses, including no offertory processions. There should be no altar servers Choirs will not be allowed (Cantor, instrumentalist is allowed) There should be no holding of hands during the Our Father. There should be no invitation to participate in a sign of peace

FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION There will be one or two communion stations, depending on the size of the Church It should be announced that parishioners may well decide not to receive Holy Communion if they feel

the risk is too high, and that decision will be honored and respected. There will be no distribution of the Precious Blood The communicants and the priest will wear masks. Neither the priest nor the communicants should wear gloves during the distribution of Holy Communion. Congregants who are not coming forward to receive Hoy Communion or a blessing should still get out

of their pews at the beginning, so that no one will have to climb over anyone else. The priest will have a table next to him with hand sanitizer. The priest will hold the consecrated host over the communicants’ outstretched hands without touching

their hands. Communicants will receive the consecrated host in their hands, step to the side, lower their mask,

consume the host, replace their mask, and return to their pew. There will be NO distribution of Holy Communion on the tongue and with respect to social dis

tancing, kneeling for Communion is not persmitted. In the case on unintentional contact, the priest will sanitize his own hands immediately. If the priest himself is a member of a vulnerable population, a deacon or a trained lay minister should

distribute communion. The people should return to their pews by a different route, to avoid contact with approaching people. There will be tape on the floor to show where to stand as a communicant approaches to receive com

munion. There will also be tape on the floor to show where to stand to demask and consume the host, and arrows showing how to return to the pews.

There should be a couple of minutes after Communion for silent prayer, before the final prayer and dismissal.

If a Parish cannot offer Mass safely, following these guidelines and all of the checkboxes on the State docu-ment, they should not offer Mass.

The Vicars Forane will have regular conversations with the Pastors and will report regularly to the Vicar General with regard to compliance.
