Faith Formation 2019-2020
This year, Sacred Heart will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 8, 2019. The theme will be
“Stay With Us.” Those who the Church Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth
to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role
that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel.
Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
Call Julia if you are available to help
RCIA ~ 2019/2020
Becoming Catholic – An RCIA Invitation! – Walking the path as a Catholic is a lifelong journey, full of all sorts of weather, road conditions, challenges and abundant Graces. Some of us were received into the Church at a young age, and some of us perhaps were baptized but never received Holy Communion. Perhaps you were never baptized, and you walk the path with a spouse who is devout, and you would like to learn more about being received into the Church. You may be a spiritual seeker and you are interested in learning more about Catholicism to see if it’s the path for you. These are all scenarios that can be explored through the process of RCIA – The Rite of Christian Initiation for
Adults. Our process begins in the fall with an inquiry session, date & time to be announced. RCIA is a process designed for adults who are coming to the Catholic faith from another faith tradition, have been baptized in the Catholic faith, but have not received any other Sacraments, or have not been baptized in any particular faith tradition. The RCIA process allows you to journey through the full liturgical year and the timeline can vary from person to person as to the readiness of reception of the Sacraments of Initiation ~ Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
To learn more, please contact Claire Lampert at 304-921-2455,
Barbara Musolin at 276-326-1555, or the parish office at 304-327-5623.

The Ladies of the St. Anne’s Altar Society cordially invite all ladies of Sacred Heart Parish to join us at our
monthly meetings and become a participating member. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month,
September through May.
We host two dinners a year with office staff and Food Pantry Volunteers as guests. We are in charge of
cleaning the Altar Linens. Our one fund raiser is we hold two bake sales during the year. The proceeds from
the bake sales are used to buy things for the church. We also prepare on meal during the school year for the
Newman Center.
Please join us! Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 11th at 11:00 am. We meet in the Church
Lounge, then attend Mass followed by refreshments back in the Lounge.
This is a chance to be part of a wonderful Ministry and nourish friendships with a great group of ladies.

We, the family of Sacred Heart Parish,
extend our deepest sympathy to John Carney
on the death of his wife, Gerda Carney who
passed away on July 29th. John and Gerda
were former parishioners now residing at
Hilton Head, SC. May our Lord surround
you with his peace and comfort and may the
soul of Gerda rest in the eternal peace of God
BACK TO SCHOOL AT C.U.
Another school year at Concord University is fast approaching and we once again count our
blessings and give thanks for everyone who helped with campus ministry this past year.
Thank you to our priests, Fr. Sebastian, Fr. Greg and Fr. Bill. Thank you to the Knights of
Columbus and all the individuals and families who provided our students with a delicious
meal each Sunday after Mass.
The first Mass at Concord University Newman Center will be Sunday, August 25th at 6p.m.
We are now asking for parishioners or church groups to volunteer to provide a meal for
approximately 20 hungry students one Sunday during the school year. We would like for
you to provide a meal and join us for Mass, however, we can arrange to pick up your meal
on Sunday afternoon.
This ministry has been a wonderful blessing for our students and the church of Princeton-Bluefield can be proud of this outreach. There is a sign-up sheet at the church entrance or you can e-mail Deacon Don at [email protected]. Thanks for your help
Mission Speaker for our Sacred Heart Parishes for 2019
Weekend Masses of August 17th & 18th
COAR, which stands for the Community Oscar Arnulfo Romero, will be making an upcoming mission appeal
and asking for your donations, prayers, and interest the weekend of August 17th and 18th..
COAR is located in Zaragoza, El Salvador. It was founded in 1980 by a Cleveland Diocese Mission Team priest
Fr. Ken Myers during El Salvador’s brutal civil war. Fr. Ken and fellow Cleveland Mission Team members Sr.
Dorothy Kazel, OSU, and Jean Donovan (murdered December 2, 1980) began gathering orphans from refugee
camps and bringing them back to the Mission’s parish of Zaragoza.
Please help us respond to the needs of the most impoverished among us and help them build a better future.
More information is available at www.coarpeacemission.org, (440) 943-7615.
Donations are payable to our parish, placed into the 2nd collection, or, brought or mailed to the parish
later with “COAR” in the memo.
Our Speaker will be Ms. Susan Barnish. Susan has recently begun working at COAR Peace Mission after four
years of live-in volunteer service at a Catholic school in rural Chalatenango, El Salvador. She can speak first-
hand of the need for programs such as that at COAR, which provide a loving yet structured environment for
children suffering from neglect, abuse, and poverty. Susan is also a member of the board of Eye Care
International, an organization that sponsors an annual vision-care mission to different parts of El Salvador.
Susan firmly believes in St. Oscar Romero’s exhortation to be a voice for the voiceless and knows that COAR
carries out this work by protecting and educating the most vulnerable of El Salvador.
