Sunday Readings | 5 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Reading 1 SIR 3:2-6, 12-14 God sets a father in honor over his children; a mother’s authority he confirms over her sons. Whoever honors his father atones for sins, and preserves himself from them. When he prays, he is heard; he stores up riches who reveres his mother. Whoever honors his father is gladdened by children, and, when he prays, is heard. Whoever reveres his father will live a long life; he who obeys his father brings comfort to his mother.
My son, take care of your father when he is old; grieve him not as long as he lives. Even if his mind fail, be considerate of him; revile him not all the days of his life; kindness to a father will not be forgo en, firmly planted against the debt of your sins —a house raised in jus ce to you.
Responsorial PS 128:1-2, 3, 4-5.
R. Blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; blessed shall you be, and favored. R. Your wife shall be like a frui ul vine in the recesses of your home; your children like olive plants around your table. R. Behold, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you from Zion: may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. R. Reading 2 COL 3:12-21 Brothers and sisters: Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, hear elt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and pa ence, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfec on. And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gra tude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wives, be subordinate to your husbands, as is proper in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and avoid any bi erness toward them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they may not become discouraged.
Alleluia COL 3:15A, 16A
R. Alleluia, alleluia. Let the peace of Christ control your hearts; let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Lk 2:22, 39-40 When the days were completed for their purifica on according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
When they had fulfilled all the prescrip ons of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

An fona de Entrada

Prayer for a Blessing on the New Year O sacred and adorable Trinity, hear our prayers on behalf of our holy Father the Pope, our Bishops, our clergy, and
for all that are in authority over us. Bless, we beseech Thee, during the coming year, the whole Catholic Church;
convert heretics and unbelievers; soften the hearts of sinners so that they may return to Thy friendship; give
prosperity to our country and peace among the nations of the world; pour down Thy blessings upon our friends,
relatives, and acquaintances, and upon our enemies, if we have any; assist the poor and the sick; have pity on the
souls of those whom this year has taken from us; and do Thou be merciful to those who during the coming year will
be summoned before Thy judgment seat. May all our actions be preceded by Thy inspirations and carried on by Thy assistance, so that all our prayers and works, having
been begun in Thee, may likewise be ended through Thee. Amen.
Family Prayer
O Heavenly Father, our loving God, you have given us the Holy Family as our patron
to bless and guide our families that the fruit of the Holy Spirit,
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control,
shall reign in our homes.
As husbands and wives, teach us to love our spouses more than ever. As parents, give us wisdom and knowledge in rearing our offspring to be responsible
and successful Christians forever. As brothers and sisters,
may we learn to care and support one another and be of inspiration to each other. As children, teach us to be obedient
just as Jesus showed obedience and respect to Mary and Joseph.
As Christians, melt us, mold us, fill us, and use us,
in spreading the good news in our community that they may see Christ in us.
When trials come, help us to face them with trusting faith and confidently hope
that all things work for good for those who love God. May we have a happy holy family forever through Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, our miraculous patron,
the adorable Holy Family.
Amen.
