August 25, 2018 9:00am – 12:00pm Brunch provided
Today in our Gospel we hear Jesus telling his disciples to, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile.” This is almost what Amy and I are doing today. We are in New Orleans, I know, not quite deserted, attending the 2018 National Diaconate Congress. This year’s Congress is special because 2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of the return of the Permanent Diaconate to the United States. For the next five days we will live almost exclusively among other Deacons and their wives. We begin this afternoon with Mass concelebrated by the Archbishop of New Orleans and the Holy Father’s Apostolic Nuncio to the
United States. We will follow that by four days of workshops and talks presented by many prominent Bishops, Priests, and Deacons from around the country. I personally am looking forward to hearing from Deacon James Keating, who is the director of Theological Formation at Creighton University; and from Deacon Bill Ditewig, who served for many years on the staff of the USCCB and is currently a Professor at St Leo University and was one of my professors during Diaconate Formation; and from Deacon Greg Kandra who is a recognized member of the media and frequent retreat master. So while the week won’t be all about getting some rest, we do hope to get at least a little time sitting by the pool and enjoying some of the sights, sounds and tastes of New Orleans!

Do you spend time, every day, alone and in silence listening to how God is calling you? If not, you are missing out on a wonderful opportunity to develop a more personal
relationship with Him. Unless we talk, and more importantly, LISTEN, to God every day, how
else will we know how He is calling us? Consider making a retreat this year, spend
some “alone” time with God.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY A Celebrate Recovery testimony is a personal story of struggle and victory presented by someone who has completed the CR 12 Step program. Hearing someone’s testimony lets us know that we are not alone with our burdens. This Tuesday we will hear a testimony from a life transformed from hopelessness to joy through the power of Jesus Christ. Come out and listen!
Experience a safe and welcoming place and see what Celebrate Recovery can do for you this Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the PAC Cafeteria. Safe place, no mask, no judgement, absolute confidentiality.

If you haven’t yet given to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, it’s not too late! Please make your check payable to Sacred Heart, and indicate BAA in the memo. Please remember all of the wonderful ministries and individuals that the BAA helps support throughout the year, including seminarians. Thank you!
Summer Attire for Liturgical Ministers Father Fred likes to describe the proper attire for liturgical ministers as “modest.” He also asks that we not wear
jeans of any color. But beyond that, what does the word MODEST really mean? Well ladies dresses should graze the top of the knee when you are serving. Gentlemen are
expected to wear a button up shirt and a tie. Ladies, leggings are not slacks. They are hosiery. So if you are
wearing slim fit pants, your top should be tunic length. And those tops must not be sheer, see-through,
low-cut or reveal what is underneath in any manner.
My mother used to say we give God the best we have. But our best does not mean the fanciest or shiniest. We should not dress as though we are going clubbing after Mass. Just because it is summer does not mean we have to show everything we have. The church is very cool and you might actually be too chilly wearing what Mother used to call “lo and behold” tops.
If you are not dressed appropriately, your mass shepherd may find a replacement for you for that mass. If you have questions or concerns, by all means call me or send me an email. And thank you for serving our Lord and our community in this ministry of love.

personal face-to-face time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Jesus, a large consecrated host, is placed in a
clear container, called the Monstrance, which is placed on a table or altar with candles, where you can spend time with Him. He is
very happy when you and all His Holy people to visit Him. People who visit Jesus includes old, young, sick, well, happy, sad, sorry, angry, families, children, firemen, policemen, teachers, doctors,
students, babies,,, well you got it EVERYONE is wanted by Jesus. The only request is that you be reverent. There are
rosaries, bibles, children's books & bibles, English & Spanish to help you learn how to spend special time with Jesus. If you do not
have an hour, come by for a few minutes. He is waiting for you!

FRENCH BOYS CHOIR ‘LES MOINEAUX’ AT SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH Children globetrotters, les Petits Chanteurs de Nogent-sur-Marne, formerly called ‘Les Moineaux’, have been singing and travelling in France and all over the world for 65 years. This institution gives young boys a special experience of life through singing and group life. Traveling in various countries also gives them the opportunity to discover different cultures. Their life is made of concerts, television shows, singing lessons, tours and participating in the liturgy. They regularly give concerts of the repertoire (Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria, etc.) in prestigious places, and also sing for humanitarian causes. Les Moineaux will be on tour in the East and South of the United States this Summer 2018. They will offer concerts including music of the sixteenth century and the well known Hallelujah from Handel, Ave Maria from Gounod, as well as music pieces of the French folklores. They will also exclusively sell their last CD. This choir of 16 passionate boys, from 10 to 18 years old, is conducted by François OLIVIER, who is also the Titular of the Choir Organ at the prestigious church St. Eustache at Paris (France).
