Throw Back Band Returns to the Bazaar The Sacramento Buddhist Church Bazaar has brought back the ever popular
local muscians The Second Wind band. Comprised of the original musicians who founded Sacramento’s
fabulous R&B/ soul/ funk-rock horn bands from the ‘70s - the era when LIVE bands still rocked the dance floors at special
events and high school homecomings and proms. Energized lead vocals are accompanied by a hip 3 to 5 piece brass section and the funkiest 5-piece rhythm unit this side of Motown that’ll have you and your guests up on the dance floor all night! Paula Jones (lead vocals), Buddy Davis (lead vocals), Lawrence Gee (trumpet, vocals), Tim Ragan (trumpet, vocals), Michael Da Grace (trumpet, vocals), Lester Chinn (saxes), Joe Gee (saxes, flute, vocals), Glen Wada (guitar), Dave Karacozoff (keyboard, vocals), Bryan Brazelton (drums), Selwyn Jones (percussion, vocals), and Marty Leong (bass, vocals) are bringing their version of the ‘70’s up to the 21st century! The Second Wind Band will be performing at the Bazaar from 6:00 pm on

Children Living a Cultural Experience Through Taiko The Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko Group began in July 1993 as a cultural extension program with the support of the Northern California Koyasan Temple in Sacramento. It was an attempt by local musicians to rebirth through a young generation, the joys of performing with taiko drums, however in its
humble beginnings, there were no taiko drums and the students practiced on used tires. Eventually members of the group began crafting drums by using old wine barrels which were disassembled, cut, sanded, glued, reassembled and varnished. Wet cow hide skins were stretched with hydraulic jacks and fastened to both ends of the drums. The stands were also homemade to fit various drumming styles. Inevitably, Taiko became a forum to pass on the legacy
of historical Japanese culture to children of all ethnic groups. Additionally, these children that learn taiko as an art, also learn to build their own taiko drums and seek to earn their stripes as a performer while taking their Taiko music throughout the Sacramento community. The Koyasan Taiko Group’s increasing popularity has allowed it members to now include adult members. The Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko Group will be performing at the Bazaar on Saturday, August 8th at noon on the Outdoor Stage.
