INFORMATION FOR BOTH PARISHES

NEW ALTAR SERVER TRAINING

Sessions will begin on January13. They will be held on

Monday’s from 2:30-3:30 p.m. (during scheduled class

time). They will be dismissed from class for training. If

your child would like to become an Altar Server please call

the parish office to sign them up. Children must be in at

least 3 rd grade to become a server. Please feel free to call

with any questions.

Rosary Recitation - We will be reciting the rosary in

front of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Altar the FIRST

SATURDAY of each month at 3:15 p.m. The next date

will be February 1st. . Please join us!

BAPTISM THE LORD

Despite John the Baptist’s consternation that he is

unworthy, Jesus presents himself to his cousin for

baptism in the Jordan River. Jesus’ public ministry begins

with a parallel to the end: he plunges beneath the waters

as he would later die, then rises as he would at Easter,

into eternal life. After he arises from the water, the

heavens open, he sees the Spirit coming upon him like a

dove and hears the words of confirmation that will

sustain him through all of the temptations and trials that

will confront him: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I

am well pleased.”

ORDINARY TIME

With the Baptism of the Lord, Christmas Season ends and

Ordinary Time begins. We will remain in Ordinary Time

until Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent on

February 26. Ordinary Time will follow the ministry of

Jesus, which began at his baptism. We will hear of the

calling of the first disciples, the meaning of discipleship,

and test our willingness to follow Jesus just as those first

disciples did.

COFFEE HOUR

Holy Family’s monthly coffee hour resumes next Sunday

following the 10:30 Mass. Our Catholic faith is about

relationship, about community. Please join us in the parish

office for coffee and goodies following Mass next Sunday.

INFORMATION FOR BOTH PARISHES

ST. ANTHONY, ABBOT

Friday, January 17, is the feast day of St. Anthony. Early

in his life Anthony discovered the importance of solitude

in relation to God. Solitude provides the vehicle through

which one removes worldly distractions that distance the

heart from listening to the will of God. Few of us will

journey into the desert and live a life of solitary prayer and

self-discipline, but all of us need to find places and times

of solitude every day and spend some quite time with the

Lord.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY

It was one of the great wishes of St. Pope John Paul II that

the Christian churches reunite. Think of the force for good

in the world we would be if that were accomplished and

we all spoke with one voice. The churches in and around

Little Falls have been coming together for just such a

purpose for the past four Advents with an evening of

prayer and reflection. As has been said many times: the

things that we believe in common are much greater than

the things that separate us. The Week of Prayer for

Christian Unity begins next Saturday, January 18.
