NPLCC Mission (New Proposed)

In the face of a changing climate and other landscape-scale stressors, the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative supports development and application of useful science; we coordinate and disseminate that science; and we serve as a convener to further collaborative efforts to inform and advance landscape-scale conservation and sustainable resource management.

1) What are the most immediate conservation needs across the NPLCC landscape?

2) How valuable is this information for managers and other decision-makers?

3) How critical is it for the NPLCC to focus on work of this type?

4) Is there relevant work of this type already being done by others?

Proposed Framing Questions for the 2017-2021 S-TEK Strategy

What Role Should the NPLCC Play?

Page 12: S-TEK Meeting August 22, 2016 - Microsoft€¦ · 2016 NPLCC Projects (Continued) RFP Response: (Climate change and associated adaptation actions – linkages ecological and human

Potential Guiding Principles for 2017-2021 S/TKs Strategy Focus on solving scientific, ecological and biological issues to promote scientifically sound, outcome-

based adaptive management.

Help managers implement actions by providing high quality or emerging information and tools to assist in decision making.

Work cooperatively and collaboratively to improve effectiveness of each organization’s large-scale landscape conservation programs and efforts.

Ensure equal standing and respect for multiple knowledge systems relevant to landscape-scale conservation and adaptation and integration where appropriate.

Include all landscapes, involving all relevant stakeholders, and including multiple values systems.

Promote a true landscape approach.

Respect social, political, and legal limitations while promoting solutions to landscape-level stressors that benefit the greater NPLCC conservation community.

Evaluate and monitor implemented actions in order to learn from and modify adaptation approaches.

Be transparent in operations and ensure equal and open access to the NPLCC process and products.
