Welcome to historic St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church! Built over a century ago, we all owe a debt of gratitude to the Irish faithful who were the first to call this church their parish. For apart from the countless sacrifices made by that first generation of faithful to build a suitable house of prayer and divine worship for the greater glory of God, this beautiful church would not exist.

Our beautiful stained glass windows, perhaps the most stunning feature of the church, have been newly restored. Rendered in the Munich Pictorial style, they depict scenes from the life of Christ as well as images of various angels and saints.

The careful observer will discern elements from the Gothic, Romanesque, and Byzantine styles which together make up the style known as Venetian Gothic. Bishop Paprocki consecrated the new main and side altars in 2012 and established the church as a personal parish on New Years Day, 2014.

The liturgy celebrated at St. Rose follows the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, and employs primarily the ancient Latin language. On Sundays, translations of both the ordinary and propers of the Mass are provided. To follow daily Mass you may wish to invest in a daily Latin English Missal available at the rectory or download an app like IMass. Internet access is available in church at StRoseChurch (password: latinmass). Make sure to mute your device while in church. “Traditional Latin Mass”

Under the Pastoral Care of The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter

Fr. Arnaud Devillers, FSSP Pastor

Be not overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.

Today's message from St. Paul, the great apostle of the nations, is clear. Leave vengeance to God. Do not repay evil for evil. Love your enemies. Come to their help if they need it. This message is not reserved to a few saints, it is addressed to all. The example of the saints and martyrs praying and forgiving their torturers and executioners should be an incentive to do our part.

In the Gospel, Our Lord tells us "Love your enemies. If you love only your friends, you are no better than a pagan.” The difficulty of being a true disciple of Christ consists precisely in forgiving our enemies and rendering good for evil.

Revenge is not up to us but up to God. God will punish men and women for their sins. Whatever anger and outrage we feel, punishment for offenses is not up to us. We cannot take the law into our hands. The society has the right to defend itself but its justice remains imperfect. Only God who knows the deepest thoughts and motivations of everyone will be able to punish each one with a just punishment.

We are overcome by evil when our anger leads us to be out of control. Anger is not always evil; it is necessary to find a way to express our legitimate anger in an appropriate fashion. Parents sometimes have to show anger to their children to make them understand the seriousness of their behavior. That

anger has to be controlled and manifested for the good of the child. But we often get angry because we let ourselves be overcome by evil. When we are deeply hurt by someone else or when someone else causes some serious damage to our property, or family, or ourselves, the real victory of evil is when we let ourselves be possessed by ideas of revenge.

The real victory over evil is when we try to render good for evil because whatever evil we are victims of, evil does not take possession of ourselves. Instead of seeking revenge by slandering the person who slanders us, or striking he who strikes us, or harming who harms us, we respond by kindness and love and our heart is not full of hatred, anger, or revenge. The goal is not to become insensitive to the evil done to us. Emotions are part of our nature. Feeling angry for a just cause is good. What we do with our anger is what may become sinful.

It is the greatness of the true religion when someone is able to forgive his enemies, to forgive offenses, to control himself or herself in such a way that he/she renders good for evil, it is a sign of a certain holiness, it is a sign of true religion, it is a sign that we are really Christians and not hypocrites like the Pharisees. It is a perpetual struggle! We may win a battle here and there but the war is never over until we die…

“No matter how just your words may be, you ruin everything when you speak with anger.” - St. John Chrysostom

“A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.” Pope Saint John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, no. 100
