From Sunday’s Gospel

Jesus said, “I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Those who

eat this bread will live for ever. Those who eat this bread have eternal life now.

They live in me and I live in them, and I will raise them up on the last day. The

bread that I give is my life, which I give to be the life of the world. As I, who am

sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me

will draw life from me. The bread that I give is the bread that has come down

from heaven. It is not like the bread our ancestors ate in the desert—they died;

but those who eat this bread will live for ever.”

Pope Francis writes:

“Holy Communion is a gift of Christ, who

makes himself present and gathers us

around him, to nourish us with his Word

and with his life.” Today’s words are Holy Communion. When we celebrate

Mass we take part in the Last Supper. Jesus is always with us but he is

especially present in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Receiving Holy

Communion strengthens us and draws us nearer to Jesus who invites us to

deepen our faith in his true presence under the forms of bread and wine.

Sea Sunday Appeal

Dear Father,

We are very grateful indeed for your support of

the work of The Apostleship of the Sea, and, in

particular for holding our Sea Sunday Appeal. As ever you and your parishioners

and been very generous, both financially and in prayer. We very much

appreciate this, so please accept our thanks to your parishioners.

Knowing that a stranger is thinking and praying for them gives seafarers great

solace in what can be hard and lonely lives. Seafarers keep us in their prayers

and often express to port chaplains and ship visitors their gratitude to the

parishioners of Great Britain. It is your parish support that allows our port

chaplains to care pastorally for the seafarers who come to our shores.

The stories of some of those at sea can really be heart breaking, but this news is

hardly ever brought to the public’s knowledge. Loneliness is a very big factor as

they miss out on family life and children miss seeing their parents for months at a

time. Many seafarers are from Catholic countries such as the Philippines, and

they, in particular, miss the sacraments such as Mass and Confession.

May God continue to bless your parish abundantly for giving from the heart.

Yours sincerely, Roland Hayes.

YANKS’ WEEKEND Thank You

A HUGE Thank you to everyone who helped with the

extremely busy Naffi Café last weekend, and to those who

donated cakes etc for sale. At the time of going to print no

total has been forthcoming but as all the sandwiches and

most of the cakes were sold, it promises to be another extremely successful

money raising event for next year’s Whit Friday. Thank You

Red Boxes

Julia would be very grateful if those who have not brought their

APF/Missio Red Boxes for emptying would do so asap. Julia would

like to send the money to Missio before the appeal in September. Thank You.

Well-Dressing

Well dressing is a summer custom practised in rural England in

which wells, springs or other water sources are decorated with

designs created from flower petals. Brenda invites anyone interested in helping

on September 12th-14th to contact her on 01457 874686 or 07849186990
