What started out as a simple dream, has blossomed into a beautiful reality. Five years ago we envisioned a way of providing direct support to the future generations of this world affected by pediatric cancer. Words cannot begin to elaborate on the amount of respect, gratitude, and sincere appreciation we have for each and every one of you. As we come together tonight, united as one, we hope for nothing more than to all hold hands, to walk together, and to find a cure for childhood cancer.
We thank all of you for joining us on this special evening to celebrate the courage, strength and beauty of our young warriors battling this insidious disease. As we have come to realize over the past five years, nothing is more inspiring than being around the unwavering spirits of these children. We sincerely hope that you will also be touched by their indescribable magic, just as we have been.
Runway to Hope has flourished in ways we never imagined. We are truly humbled and incredibly blessed to have embarked on this journey. We have high hopes that you will continue to join us in Runway to Hope’s mission of providing direct support and aid to Central Florida children and their families impacted by the devastating effects of pediatric cancer.
This year marks only the beginning of Runway to Hope’s sixth year. What has grown from 30 children walking the runway in our inaugural year in 2011, to over 160 children this year modeling on the runway at tonight’s gala, the
need to help these children and their families remains great. Only a small fraction of cancer research and funding is directed towards pediatric cancer. Hence, private contributions are essential and necessary. We can only hope that one day, prayers are answered and that pediatric cancer is eliminated. Today, unfortunately, is not that day, as this fight continues.
Tonight serves as a moment in time when the daily challenges of pediatric cancer are pushed aside and you are able to witness these children as the shining stars they truly are. We would be remiss if we didn’t thank the children and their families for what they have given us... love, inspiration and hope.
To date, Runway to Hope will have raised more than $4.2 million to date. In its short existence, Runway to Hope has made a meaningful impact on the pediatric cancer community, thanks to all of your generous donations, support and contributions throughout the years. At last year’s Spring Fashion Soiree, a record $1,112,000 was raised for the evening. A one million dollar pledge was made to each of Central Florida’s children’s hospitals; Florida Hospital for Children, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Nemours Children’s Hospital. Runway to Hope has insisted that each of the hospitals utilize the funds to create new and unique programs, treatments and care that were otherwise absent or underserved in the Central Florida region. As such, not only do children locally benefit tremendously, but the work being done is shared and goes to help and educate the pediatric cancer community worldwide as well.
In addition to the pediatric oncology programs referenced above, Runway to Hope also endows a Family Assistance Program, which directly ministers aid to not only the children diagnosed with cancer, but to their courageous and valiant families as well. Often one parent has to quit work to care for the child, other children’s needs are unfortunately deferred and a family’s finances are dramatically drained by mounting expenses and the loss of income. Bills and medical costs mount quickly leading to stress that can overwhelm the parents and
A Heartfelt Thanks
children alike. With our Family Assistance Program, we cut through the bureaucracy and red tape in order to provide the families immediate help from anything to food for them, automobile assistance, mortgage/rent payments, necessities for the home and emergency transportation out of state.
No parent should ever have to hear their child ask, “When I die, what will Heaven look like?” We hear such things too often and strive daily so that such questions will someday be asked no more. Although the dollars raised may seem high, it is simply not enough as so many more millions are needed. Starting this charity had been a dream fulfilled. Runway to Hope not only touched our lives, but also the lives of our daughters, Valentina and Alessandra. We are so proud of the philanthropists they have become at such a young age. “To those who much is given, much is expected” is our family’s mantra and one which is being passed down.
We remain motivated by the triumphant stories of most of the kids but, conversely, deeply saddened by the tragic losses of others who have lost their valiant struggle. We continue to seek community, corporate and business support as together we can have the greatest impact in fighting this dreaded disease. We hope that you will be transformed and inspired, as we have been. Not only are we helping to better the lives of these children and families, but they grace us abundantly as well. We learn, prioritize and grow as a direct result of their courage, their inspiration and their tenacity.
Thank you for being a part of this special evening as we celebrate these amazing kids and as we join together to hold hands, walk together and end childhood cancer.
With blessings, hope, and heartfelt thanks,
Mark, Josie, Valentina, and Alessandra NeJame

Proudly Supports Runway to Hope
Funds raised by Runway to Hope’s signature event of the year benefit the pediatric oncology programs at our three local pediatric hospitals. Proceeds from the Spring Fashion Soiree event contribute towards Runway to Hope’s 7 year pledge of $1 million to each hospital; Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Florida Hospital for Children and Nemours Children’s Hospital.
Your Contributions at WorkThe $3 Million Pledge
At Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Runway to Hope funds Central Florida’s first ever comprehensive Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program, comprised of a team led by Dr. Amy Smith that provides the full range of medical and emotional support specific to pediatric brain tumor patients during and after treatment.
At Florida Hospital for Children, Runway to Hope funds the hospital’s pediatric pallitive care program, which provides physical, emotional and spiritual support to children suffering from cancer and their families.
At Nemours Children’s Hospital, Runway to Hope funds both the Community Children’s Oncology Program - a database that will improve access to leading-edge therapies, research and resources for pediatric cancer patients throught Northern and Central Florida - and Pediatric Interventional Oncology, which serves cancer patients directly by utilizing rare and advanced imaging technologies for localized treatment.

Runway to Hope regularly receives calls from parents, other caregivers and professionals in desperate need of financial assistance for families battling childhood cancer. It’s no secret that raising a child with cancer can be expensive. Between doctor’s appointments, therapy sessions, hospital stays, treatment procedures and prescriptions the costs can get very overwhelming for families affected by pediatric cancer. On average 89% of families report an income loss due to their child’s diagnosis. Runway to Hope’s Family Assistance Program provides this much needed support.

Bash Weekend 2016
On April 2 and April 3, 2016 Runway to Hope models and their families participated in Bloomingdale’s Bash Weekend. Over 170 boys and girls ranging in ages of 2-18 years participated in a memorable and fun filled day away from protocols, medicine, treatment, and the daily challenges that pediatric cancer children and their families face.
Runway to Hope’s extraordinary sponsor, Bloomingdales and their astounding staff, donated their time, resources and clothing to more than 170 childhood cancer models. The weekend was complete with a StarWars theme and appropriate underlying mantra “May the Force Be With You”. Runway to Hope models and their families had a full day packed with shopping, pampering, face-painting, hair styling, eye lash design, photo booth, magic shows, caricature drawings, lunch and many more amazements. This enjoyable event wouldn’t have been possible without the immensely supportive help of over 100 dedicated volunteers, Central Florida community companies, and Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree 2016 committee members. A heartfelt thank you to our
Bloomingdales Bash Committee Chairwoman; Laila Maali, and CoChair Shannon Gunn who truly brought the FORCE of enjoyment to these brave boys and girls.
On this day the outfits chosen by these courageous boys and girls, serve as their fashion selection for walking down the runway at the highly anticipated Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree. Each wardrobe specifically reflects the spirited and unique personality of each child and the experience serves as an unforgettable memory for these courageous children. Bloomingdale Bash weekend serves as timeless moment when cancer doesn’t take center stage in the lives of the pediatric cancer warriors.

Volunteer Spotlight
Runway to Hope greatly respects the time, expertise and commitment of two exceptional Spring Fashion Soiree models; Evelyn Haner, and Maleah Thomas. Both young ladies awarded Survivor Medals in 2015, humbly accepted an invitation to return as valued volunteers. Evie and Maleah first homecoming was Bloomingdale’ s Bash Weekend 2016; assisting new models with self-confidence, familiarity, and kindheartedness to their fellow childhood cancer fighters. Through their eyes, we find HOPE in the future of all childhood cancer warriors.
Evelyn Haner Evie was originally diagnosed at 24 months
with Retinoblastoma is now nine years old.
Evie, a seven-year cancer survivor, dreams
of a future of a world filled with peace and
happiness for all. If Evie could change the
world she would create and food and water
source for families that are underprivileged.
A perfect night for this young lady would be
going with her family to the movies or Dave
and Busters.
Maleah Thomas Maleah now 11 years old, is an Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia eight-year
survivor. Maleah, a fashionista dreams of
one day becoming a professional singer
and inspires others to raise awareness of
childhood cancer. A perfect night with
her family include playing and laughing
together. If she could do one thing to
change the world it would be to find a cure
to childhood cancer.

TOP GOLFER LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN KNOWS FIRST-HAND THE VALUE OF CHARITABLE ENDEAVOURS AND SPONSORSHIP.Inspired by the sponsorship he received during his amateur years, Louis founded the LOUIS57 JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY in 2009, and the LOUIS57 FOUNDATION in 2010 – two major organisations through which Louis can assistgolfers of the future, and children with special needs.
The LOUIS57 JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY has a golf development programme that offers weekly lessons by a PGA pro, in addition to specialised individual coaching, and entry into League and Provincial golf for full-time school students. This is an Academy that exposes the junior player to the pressures of professional golfing and, most importantly, provides the necessary financial support in a particularly expensive sport. LOUIS57 FOUNDATION is Louis and his wife, Nel-Mare’s, way of giving back to the community, both in Albertinia (Louis’ birthplace) and Mossel Bay, and further abroad, sponsoring organisations such as the Leolan Academy in Mossel Bay, which caters for children with special needs, such as autism.
