6 Nations 2010 Fixtures

The 2010 6 Nations Championship will celebrate the centenary of the first championship between the five original members. The 2010 RBS 6 Nations Championship will kick-off in Dublin on Saturday, 6 February 2010, when Ireland meet

Italy and conclude in Paris on Saturday, 20 March 2010, when France meet England.

Ireland were crowned Grand Slam winners for the first time in 61 years at the 2009 6 Nations competition.

Blues pair Rees and Jones in for Wales

Cardiff pair Richie Rees and Deiniol Jones will both make their first RBS 6 Nations starts for Wales as Warren Gatland makes four changes for Friday's clash with France. 1Under-fire scrum-half Gareth Cooper is replaced by Rees in

the No.9 shirt with Lions star Mike Phillips taking his place on the bench after a spell on the sidelines. But the biggest surprise came in the second row where Gatland has picked a brand-new combination in Blues duo Jones and Bradley Davies. With Alun Wyn Jones out injured and Jonathan Thomas moving to the back-row to cover the dropped Andy Powell, many expected the experienced Ian Gough or Newport Gwent Dragons recent man-of-the-match Luke Charteris to partner Davies in the boiler room. But Gatland instead turned to Jones who will be winning his eighth cap for his country.

Up front Huw Bennett gets the nod at hooker to complete an all-Ospreys front row while Thomas forms a back-row unit with captain Ryan Jones and veteran Martin Williams who will win his 94th cap making him Wales’ most capped forward of all time with Colin Charvis. Among the replacements are Saracens prop Rhys Gill and Scarlets hooker Ken Owens who would make their debuts if they come on while Tom Shanklin provides cover along the backline. And Gatland had no qualms about throwing Jones or Rees into the fray against France who are favourites for the title. He said: “Deiniol (Jones) has been in very good form for the Blues and he has the opportunity to partner his regional colleague (Bradley Davies) which should help both players settle in quickly," said head coach Warren Gatland. “Bradley deserves his chance, he has been around this squad since he has been a youngster but he has worked hard and is in great physical shape and has the potential to be a great player. “Jonathan Thomas moves to the back row but he will also hopefully have an impact at line-out time alongside Bradley and Deiniol, he runs that area for the Ospreys and has been doing a good job. “Richie has played himself into the starting line-up and deserves his chance, but once we had decided on his

selection we couldn't ignore the opportunity to bring Mike Phillips back into the fold. “It was great to see Mike get a full half for the Ospreys at the weekend and he is someone who can give us a different option from the bench. “He is a world class player and he has been champing at the bit to get back to international rugby. He may not be 100 per cent match fit but he still has probably the best pass in Northern Hemisphere rugby and is a big physical presence so we know he won't let us down.”

Cusiter determined to pull off Italian job

Scotland captain Chris Cusiter admits he is still haunted by his role in Italy's RBS 6 Nations win at Murrayfield back in 2007. Cusiter threw two interceptions that led to Italian tries as the Azzurri silenced Murrayfield with three scores during the first

six minutes in their 37-17 win. And the 27-

now and I’ve moved on,” he told the Herald. “It’s one of the bad days, one of the really bad days. Horrible, really horrible. “But I’m confident we can go and get a result. It will be a big pressure game for them and for us. “England struggled to get themselves away from Italy, and that showed it’s a tough place to go. Our ability to control a game will be tested, because they always make it tight. “That’s what can happen there. They’re so dogged and determined, they’ll never allow the away team to get comfortable. “Last year at home, we scored a try early on, got ourselves a bit of a lead and it was more comfortable, but I can never remember it being like that before. They’re a tough team to beat.”

Warriors re-sign Taumoepeau

Powerhouse prop Tevita Taumoepeau has committed his future to Worcester Warriors by signing a new one-year deal at Sixways.

The former Tongan international, a cult hero with fans at the Warriors, has become a rock in the scrum since joining from Bourgoin in 2005.

He made his debut in Worcester colours against former club Northampton in the Powergen Cup in

Taumoepeau has become a key figure in the dressing room and that was underlined when he was named Players' Player of the Year in 2007/08.

"We have received some good news in the shape of Tevita Taumoepeau re-signing for the Warriors on a one-year deal," said Ruddock.

"Dave, as he is affectionately

known by fans and the players, is a hugely popular

character who is respected throughout the Guinness Premiership as a formidable scrummager.

"Tevita is passionate about the Warriors and about staying at the club in order to see us improve our fortunes and grow as a team.
