ApplicationThe prohibitions and restrictions listed in this section apply to all LS&CO. products, including all

materials, parts, chemicals, and other goods, supplied or use in LS&CO. products.

PurposeThe saety o LS&CO. products is o paramount importance to LS&CO. and we will only place saeand compliant products on the market. This section identies the substances o primary interest toLS&CO. and presents those substances along with the corresponding prohibitions or limitations.In addition, analytical test methods or use by the LS&CO. approved laboratory are given or eachsubstance.

LS&CO. may test materials, parts, chemicals, and other goods, or these substances. LS&CO.suppliers and other contractors have a non-delegable duty to comply with the prohibitions andlimitations; and must execute an appropriate Source Compliance Agreementand/or Chemical Source

and Supplier Compliance Agreementin the orm set orth in Section 5 o this document. The presenceo a substance on the Restricted Substances List or on any previous RSL should not be interpretedas suggesting that the substance is or ever was present in any LS&CO. apparel, accessory or otherproduct.

products, we acknowledge certain challenges may prevent an immediate cessation o use. LS&CO.will continue to support eorts to identiy alternatives to these phase-out chemicals with the goal oprohibiting their use at a uture time.

PurposeSince its inception, the RSL has been a critical tool in LS&CO.s ability to achieve the companysconsumer-saety and regulatory-compliance objectives. We believe that the RSL can also be a toolor helping the company to meet our goals in the area o environmental sustainability. In an eort tobuild sustainability deeper into our business, LS&CO. has created a list o substances to be phasedout o LS&CO. production on the basis o their recognized or potential impacts to the environmentand natural ecosystems.

The ve substances listed are selected or phase-out due to their environmental ootprint:

Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs)1.APEO may be ound in detergent, soap or chemical mixtures as suractant. APEO-reedetergents or chemical mixtures are available in most areas o the world. Each productmanuacturer should contact their chemical suppliers to understand i APEOs are presentin currently used chemicals and to inuire about APEO-ree alternatives.

Bisphenol-A2.Bisphenol-A is not likely to be used in the production o textile products, howeverbisphenol-A may be ound in plastics such as polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins.LS&CO. recommends suppliers o plastic and epoxy resin products to cease use obisphenol-A by contacting chemical companies and raw material suppliers to inuire obisphenol-A ree products.

Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4 siloxane)3.Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane may be ound in residual traces in certain siliconesoteners. LS&CO. preers silicone soteners that have been manuactured to

minimize the residual amount o octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane. Minimizingoctamethylcyclotetrasiloxane in silicone soteners reuires accurate process controlduring sotener chemical synthesis. Thereore it is imperative this preerence iscommunicated to your sotener suppliers.

Phthalates4.Phthalates are used as a plasticizer in Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), imparting sot andfexible properties to the PVC. Phthalate use is prohibited or children products.LS&CO. also encourages suppliers to use phthalate-ree chemicals or adult products.Phthalate-ree chemicals are readily available in the market.

5. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)PVC may be ound in screen printing and in packaging materials. Typically plastisolscreen printing means PVC-based printing. Suppliers o screen printing services shouldcontact the supplier o printing binders and pigments to ully understand the PVCcontent. Water-based (PVC-ree) printing systems are widely available in all locations othe world. PVC use is prohibited in packaging materials.

The European Communities Regulation Concerning the Registration,Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction o Chemicals

ApplicationThis section applies to all suppliers manuacturing or supplying materials, parts, chemicals andother goods supplied or use in LS&CO. apparel, accessories and other products, which areintended or sale in any European Union member state.

PurposeThe inormation provided below is intended to assist our suppliers with respect to compliance withREACH (Regulation (EC) Number 1907/2006 o the European Parliament and o the Council).Every LS&CO. supplier has a non-delegable duty to comply with REACH. In supplying thisinormation, LS&CO. does not intend to assume all or any part o our suppliers duty to complywith the regulation.

What Suppliers Should Do:

All LS&CO. suppliers shall visit the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website(http://www.echa.eu) regularly and comply with the published obligations andguidance regarding consumer articles.

Suppliers should map each step in their supply chains, including the sourcing andprocessing o raw materials, parts, chemicals and other product ingredients to be

inormed about the presence o any Substance o Very High Concern36

(SVHC) andable to immediately demonstrate to LS&CO. or a designated party that no SVHCsare present over 0.1%, calculated by weight on the entire product. Suppliers shallmaintain comprehensive data regarding such inormation in their respective supplychains.

The Inormation Duty Article (Article 33) o REACH mandates ull transparency andecient communication regarding chemicals within the complete supply chain. It isthereore imperative that LS&CO. suppliers o products intended or Europe have athorough understanding o the chemicals used during the manuacturing o the rawmaterials used and can validate that no SVHCs are present over the 0.1% threshold.

Suppliers should immediately discuss REACH with their chemical suppliers anddiscuss their intent to only purchase chemicals that do not contain any SVHCs. Allsuppliers to LS&CO. shall immediately notiy LS&CO. (by contacting your regionalRSL representative or [email protected]) i any SVHC in a uantity higher than 0.1% maybe present in a product supplied to LS&CO.

1. Direct Suppliers to LS&CO. (Sources) All contractors and direct suppliers to LS&CO.,including agents and licensees (hereinater Sources) shall agree to, and declare theircompliance with, the LS&CO. RSL by signing and returning the Source ComplianceAgreement. Additionally, Sources shall reuire their chemical suppliers to execute the

Chemical Source and Supplier Compliance Agreementand accompanying the ChemicalInformation Log(CIL). The executed agreements and the CIL shall be sent to LS&CO. byE-mail ([email protected]) or by acsimile (+1.682.292.2788).

2. Chemical Suppliers LS&CO. reuires chemical suppliers to execute the LS&CO. ChemicalSource and Supplier Compliance Agreementby signing and returning it to LS&CO. by E-mail([email protected]) or by acsimile (+1.682.292.2788). The chemical supplier shall also send acopy o the signed agreement to the Source (actory) that uses their chemicals. Chemicalsuppliers shall review LS&CO.s RSL to determine which substances in their preparation(chemical mixtures), i any, may violate LS&CO.s RSL policy.

The Chemical Information Log(CIL) that accompanies the Chemical Source and SupplierCompliance Agreementshall be completed or each preparation used in the manuacture oany LS&CO. product. The CIL includes 6 columns. The rst column should be completedwith the chemical trade name, as indicated on product packaging documents, MSDS and label.For each preparation, the chemical supplier shall indicate whether such chemical:

(1) contains an RSL substance, or(2) may orm an RSL substance during normal processing conditions.

When a preparation contains, or may orm, an RSL substance in a concentration that couldcause an LS&CO. product to exceed corresponding RSL restrictions, the chemical supplier

should indicate this by identiying the RSL substance and concentration on the CIL. Theconcentration indicated on the CIL must be the concentration o the RSL substance in thechemical preparation.

Accessories Accessories are products other than typical pants and shirts. Accessories caninclude both apparel and non-apparel products such as belts, caps, shoes, handbags, gloves,socks, scarves, eyewear, watches, home textile products, and wallets. The examples coveredhere are neither exhaustive nor all inclusive, they simply provide examples o products denedas accessories. All accessories are covered by LS&CO.s RSL.

Allowable Trace (TR) The allowable trace is identied by the TR designation in the LimitValue column. The trace amount represents the permitted unavoidable trace presence o asubstance that is allowed to be ound on the garment when the substance has been prohibitedrom use.

Article Means an object which during production is given a special shape, surace or designwhich determines its unction to a greater degree than does its chemical composition.

Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) Number The CAS number is a uniue number that

identies a particular chemical structure. While there may be various synonyms or achemical and dierent naming conventions, there is only one CAS number. Mixtures ochemicals do not have CAS numbers, only individual chemical components have CASnumbers. When there is doubt about the chemical name used in the RSL, always check theCAS number.

Childrens Products A childrens product is that which is made or, marketed or use by, ormarketed to, children age 12 and under. All Girls size 0-16 and Boys size 8-20 are includedwith the denition o childrens products.

Concentration Limit The concentration limit is set or each substance as measured on the

nal product and represents the maximum allowable amount o the respective substancewhich can be ound in a RSL compliant product. The concentration limit is shown in theLimit Value column. The limit is specied as the amount o the substance on the amounto substrate, by weight (e.g., milligrams substance per kilogram o product [mg/kg]).Concentration limits are applicable to any single part o a garment or accessory, not anaverage over the whole product.

Detection Limit The detection limit species the test method detection sensitivity that alaboratory must be able to achieve when measuring the substance in the product.

LS&CO. Product(s) LS&CO. nal products covered by the RSL include all LS&CO.branded products, including Levis, Dockers, and Signature by Levi Strauss & Co.products. LS&CO. Non-Apparel Products Non-apparel products are those that are made rom materials otherthan abric or leather. Some products included in non-apparel products are mobile phones, homeurnishings, ties, hats, watches, jewelry, eyewear, and electronics. All non-apparel products arecovered by LS&CO.s RSL.

Plastisol Ink Plastisol ink may be used during screen printing. Plastisol inks are sold by thechemical supplier pre-mixed, meaning the color and the binder are purchased as one preparation.The vast majority o plastisol inks available on the market are based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC).Plastisol inks are also sometimes called solvent printing inks.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC or short, is a hard plastic that may be oundin packaging materials, fashers and screen printing. PVC is prohibited or use in packaging or allLS&CO. products. Alternatives to PVC packaging include polyurethane (PU), polyethylene (PE) andpolyethylene terephthalate (PET). In addition, PVC screen printing utilizing phthalates is prohibitedor childrens products.

Preparation Means a mixture or solution composed o two or more substances.

Reporting Limit (RL) The reporting limit is the lowest concentration the laboratory is allowed toreport. I the laboratory detects an amount o the substance below the RL, the laboratory reportmust state Not Detected.

Sundries Sundries are attachments which are axed to the garment. Sundries may include zippers,rivets, buttons, care labels, name labels, and tags.

Usage Ban A usage ban is dened as a prohibition o intentional use o the substance during anyand all stages o product manuacturing. However, the RSL identies an allowable trace amount othe substance due to unavoidable contaminant.

Water-based Printing Water-based inks and binders are used during screen printing. The ink andbinder are sold separately and must be mixed at the printing actory to obtain the reuired color.Water-based printing (inks and binders) do not contain PVC and can be used or childrens products.

a 3: product testinG

LS&CO. currently maintains various product testing programs to validate RSL compliance.Notwithstanding LS&CO.s testing programs, the supplier shall be ully responsible orobtaining all necessary knowledge and inormation reuired to understand and executebusiness processes that ensure RSL compliance. The supplier is also responsible or perorming

analytical testing on products to veriy the products compliance to all RSL reuirements. Thesupplier should test products only at LS&CO. approved laboratories (Appendix 10), ollowingthe prescribed process or sending samples to the laboratories (Appendix 9).

Products shall be tested as prescribed in the ollowing tables. Table A provides testing guidancebased on material type. Table B provides testing guidance based on nish type; and Table Cprovides testing guidance or screen prints. In addition to the testing guidance provided inthe ollowing tables, LS&CO. may at any time reuest additional testing to validate productcompliance with the RSL. All costs associated with product testing are the responsibility o thesupplier.

a 7: Guidance reGardinG phthalates in screen printinG

To phase out PVC and phthalates in screen printing chemicals, the printer must rst understand iPVC or phthalates are used. To make such determination, the printer should consult with screen-print chemical suppliers and test the product or PVC and phthalates. The ollowing fowchart isoered to assist in determining the likelihood o phthalate use in screen prints.

To phase out phthalate and PVC use in screen printing, replacing the print material withwater-based chemistry, the printer should consider the ollowing suggestions:

Discuss the screen printing chemicals with your chemical suppliers to determine the

available alternatives to phthalate and PVC chemistries,

Perorm a trial with PVC-ree and phthalate-ree screen printing chemicals,

Check to ensure the replacement screen printing chemicals do not violate other provisionso the RSL (such as alkylphenol ethoxylate (APEO) or n-methylpyrrollidone (NMP)),

Reuire a completed Chemical Inormation Log rom the chemical supplier,

Test the product to validate it is phthalate and PVC ree,

Contact the LS&CO. RSL team with any uestions.

SamplesMake sure when sending samples they are packaged with zip-lock bags and sealed properlyin order to prevent cross-contamination rom other samples. Be sure enough sample is sentto the testing laboratory so that they can perorm the test in accordance with LS&CO. stan-dards and reuirements. (See appendix 9 or the approved laboratories.)

LabelingLabel the samples properly and make sure the label inormation matches with the detailslisted in laboratory testing application orm.

SubmissionEach sample should include a completed laboratory testing application orm. The ormmust include contractor ID, submitter name, mailing address, submitter phone number, anddate o collection.

All samples submitted to the laboratories must include the return address o the submitterand the name o the person applying or the testing.

NotesBeore packing, ensure that the Submission Form:a) is lled out completely and legibly;b) has a name and phone number(s) o an individual(s) to be contacted in emergencies; andc) has a purchase order number or other billing inormation.
