    REPORT ON GEOPHYSICAL WORK

    KIDD TOWNSHIP

    N.T.S. 42-A-ll

    INTRODUCTION:

Ground geophysical surveys consisting of proton pre

cession magnetometer and horizontal loop electromagnetic

traverses were performed on two half lots {8 staked claims) in

Kidd Township. The Kidd 52 East claim group is situated in

the North half of Lot 9, Concession V while the Kidd 52 West

group is located in the North half of Lot 12, Concession V.

Access to the claim groups is best achieved by

    helicopter.

    PREVIOUS WORK

The Kidd 52 claims have been previously worked by

Hollinger Mines who conducted magnetic and horizontal loop surveys,

On Kidd 52 West, Zincfields submitted magnetic and

electromagnetic surveys/both airborne and ground, Mespi Mines

ran a vertical loop survey, and Mattagami Lake Mines drilled

a 507 foot hole. None of this work produced anything of

    economic interest.

    SURVEY DETAILS

Grid lines were established in a north-south direction

at 100 metre intervals on both properties. On Kidd 52 East, east-

west lines were also established at 100 metre intervals.

Horizontal loop E.M. values were recorded on all lines

  • - 2 -

at 40 metre spacings. Magnetic readings were taken every 20

    metres on the north-south lines.

    SURVEY RESULTS;

    KIDD 52 WEST:

The; magnetic pattern on this property is dominated

by north-northwesterly trends. This is probably the result of

major diabase dikes that flank the eastern and western edges

of the property. The centre of the area is underlain by rocks

of low magnetic susceptibility except in the north-west corner

of the property where a small mag high trends east-west from

Line 2900W to Line 3100N at 40 metres south of the base line.

This trend is probably the true orientation of the stratigraphy.

The horizontal loop electromagnetic survey failed to

detect any conductive zones. The 444'frequency is very flat.

The 1777 frequency results contain some minor undulations that

may represent variations in thickness of conductive overburden.

    KIDD 52 EAST:

Rocks of low magnetic susceptibility underlie all of

this property. The weak magnetic trends are generally in a east-

west direction. This area is probably underlain by the low

susceptibility sediments that occur in most of central Kidd

    Township.

The electromagnetic surveys run in both directions

are quite unexciting. Again, the low frequency results are

quite flat arid the high frequency variations represent very poorly conductive sources, certainly not massive sulphide type

  • - 3 -

    conductors.

    CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS;

No conductive zones representing possible massive

sulphide accumulations were detected on either property.

From the magnetics, the Kidd 52 East area appears

to be underlain by a fairly uninteresting sedimentary sequence

and no further work is recommended.

The Kidd 52 West property has a much more complex mag

netic pattern and is very likely underlain by a contorted

sequence of volcanics. Overburden drilling should be done to

attempt to correlate the magnetics with the bedrock geology.
