1.0 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS.

1.1 Between Sept. 1995 and Jan. 1996, Citadel Gold Mines conducted a program of till sampling on its properties in McMurray Tp. Ontario. The purpose of the sampling was to determine the distribution of diamond indicators, to more closely define drill targets for kimberlites. The program was also intended to provide assessment work credits for 21 claim units in four unpatented claims.

1.2 14 samples were collected from various sites as shown on attached plan 96-1. Samples were screened and -sent o Overburden Drilling Management Limited for extraction and identification of heavy minerals.

1.3 Gold, magnetite and niobian perovskite content af the individual samples indicates that the samples were representative of known geology in the up-ice direction freat respective samples.

1.4 This initial program encountered some technical problems which should be corrected in subsequent sampling programs:

1.4.1 Screening of samples using a rusty steel welded gravel screen inside a shop formerly used as an. electrical repair facility resulted in considerable sample contamination by metal and slag particles. Field screening using laboratory grade screens of appropriate size is recommended for future work. These contaminants do not create spurious indications but they did hinder identification of real indicators.

1.4.2 Budget limitations and Ontario Government assessment work regulations skewed the geographical distribution of samples. As a result, the program has not .provided definitive answers about diamond indicator distribution up-ice from the indicators found in prior government surveys.

1.4.3 Sampling of till or reworked till was attempted. The original intent was to pre-concentrate large samples using a Knelson concentrator. The Knelson concentrator did not in fact become avail-able. Samples had no re- concentration by steams, so the volume of heavy minerals was small. Future programs should select samples from sites in creek beds with natural pre- concentration, or use a port-abl-e table and screen for

pre-concentration of till samples, to ensure a larger representation of indicator minerals. Evaluation of samples must include an assessemnt of the degree of pre-concentration.

1.5 It is recommended that a second sampl ing program be conducted to define the up-ice source of diamond indicators in McMurray Tp., with sample sites on claims controlled by Citadel, without regard for their assessment work status. About 20 samples should be collected from selected sites. Samplers need adequate equipment for sample site evaluation, and contamination free sample processing. Estimated cost is $12,000.

1.6 It is recommended that the Deep lake magnetic anomaly be drilled to determine its cause. Estimated cost is $25,000.

1.7 Assessment work from this program may be distributed as follows:

Citadel patented claim block. 2/14 x $1621.68 Citadel claim no. 1110152 2/14 1621.68 Citadel contiguous claim nos. 10/14 8108.41

1110155, 1110154 k 1110153511351.77

1.7 Based on the results of this survey, abandonment of claim no. 1110155 is recommended as it expires in due course.

2.0 INTRODUCTION

2.1 Roy J. Rupert and Associates was instructed to conduct a sampling program on 4 claims of Citadel Gold Mines Inc. to determine if there were indications of diamond bearing kimberlites there, and to provide assessment credits to maintain the claims in good standing.

2.2 The sampling was conducted in Sept, Oct. and Nov. 1996 under the direction of Mr. Russ Reid, P.O. Box 1346, Wawa, ON. In Dec. and Jan. 1996, the samples were processed by Overburden Drilling Management Limited to extract and identify diamond indicators. The report of ODML is attached. General supervision, direction and final report preparation was provided by Roy Rupert, 1496 Wellington St. East, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, P6A 5A5.

5.0 PRIOR WORK

5.1 This area has been intensively prospected since the1800's. Gold prospecting activity peaked about- 187O r L897 to 1902, 1925 to 1939, and 1963 to 1970, and 1986 to 1989. Iron prospecting activity peaked about 1875 to 1885, 1899 to 1905, 1915 to 1918, and 1939 to 1960. Numerous government and private reports have been written and are on public record. The most recent summary Report on the area is Ont. Geol. Survey Open File Report no. 5586, by Ron Sage in 1993, Geology of Chabanel, Esquega, Lastheels and McMurray Tps.

5.2 In 1938 and 1939, promoters of two failed gold mines in the area attempted to promote them as diamond prospects: At this time, the Centennial and Wawa Goldfields Mines and mills were operated to take down backs in lamprophyric dykes and to process that rock for diamonds, in the unsuccesful hope that diamonds would be found in them.

5.3 In the 1950's, The Algoma Ore Division of the Algoma Steel Company Limited conducted drilling on the nearby Firesand Carbonatite. Objectives of this drilling were initially to find iron ore in the ferroan dolomite core of the intrusive, then to find ferroan dolomite or limestone flux, and as an afterthought, to evaluate possible niobium mineralisation there. This work and a public map are summarised in Ont. Dept. Mines Geological Kept. no. 3 by G.E. Parsons in 1961, Niobium Bearing Complexes East of Lake Superior.

5.4 Citadel Gold Mines Inc. and its predecessor companies have acquired mining properties in McMurray Tp. since 1961, and now hold claims as shown on plans. 94-1 to 94-4. Intensive exploration of these propertes for gold deposits has been in progress since 1961, including dozens of airborne .and -ground geophysical surveys, geological and geochemical surveys, diamond drilling, etc. Proprietary reports are in Citadel's files.

5.5 In 1993, alluvial prospecting near the confluence -of the Michipicoten and Magpie Rivers resulted in the discovery of two diamonds by local prospector Mickey Clement. As a result the Ontario Geological Survey conducted two programs of sampling in glacio-fluvial and glacial sediments to determine if diamond indicator minerals were locally present and if there was any indication of the bedrock source of the diamonds. Published OGS reports by Dr. Tom Morris indicate that diamond indicators are prevalent in the Trout Creek basin southwest of Citadel's claims, and that the probable source of the diamond indicators (and the two earlier found diamonds) is to the northeast, in the up-ice glacial direction. This indicates that Citadel Gold Mines' cXaXms are prime diamond prospecting territory.

5.6 As a result of these diamond discoveries, Citadel Gold Mines restaked certain adjacent claims in 1993 and -19-94 to improve. their ground position. Assessment work is due -on these claims in early 1996. Staking was guided by prior magnetic surveys conducted on these properties during gold prospecting by Citadel in the 1980's.

6.0 CURRENT SURVEY, DIAMOND INDICATOR SAMPLING

6.1 As indicated in the introduction, a diamond indicator survey was undertaken between Sept. 1995 and Jan. 1996. The purpose is to provide assessment credit on 21 claim units and to determine if there are indications of diamonds on those claims.

6.2 Samples of glacial till or reworked glacial till were collected at sites as indicated on Plan 96-2.

Report On Diamond Indicator Sampling Page 5

6.3 Sample sites were selected with the intent that the sampled material should be till. Due to heavy local organic overburden cover, sites were selected along lake shores where the character of the soil could be observed. Most sites were till with some reworking along the shoreline. Some of the samples near Leroy Lake were glaciogluvial sediment. Detailed sample descriptions are in Appendix A.

6.4 Samples consisted of about 100 to 200 Ibs of till taken in buckets at the sample site. The original intent was to concentrate heavy minerals from these large samples using a local Knelson concentrator. Due to death of the concentrator's owner, this concentration process was not practical. Instead the samples were screened to remove + 1/8" material, and coned and quartered to reduce them to about 30 Ibs size. This screening was done using -ara expanded steel mesh mason's gravel screen. Because of the need to thaw and dry samples, the screening was- done inside a building at the Surluga mine. Despite use of plastic sheeting, analytical results indicate that significant contamination of the samples occurred at this stage -of the process. The contaminants were metal and slag particles from the screen or the shop floor.

4.5 The 25 Ib. samples were shipped to Overburden Drilling Management Ltd., 15 Capella Court #107, Nepean, On, K2E 2X1, Each sample was processed through a shaking table and ̂ an to recover heavy minerals. The concentrate was processed using heavy liquid separation at specific gravity 3.2. All gold grains were counted and described. Other heavy minerals were picked for diamond indicator minerals using a microscope. Selected grains were identified using a scanning electron microscope.

6.6 Appendix B is the laboratory report submitted by Overburden Drilling Mangement Ltd., with a summary interpretative report by Dr. S. A. Averill.

7.0 INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS

7.1 The detailed sampling results are in Appendix-B, Appendix A is a description of the samples as shipped. The reader should refer to it.

7.2 Sample results were first evaluated for gold, magnetite and other minerals expected as a result of known up-ice geological conditions. The following discussion shows that the samples are indicative of the up-ice rocks.

7.2.1 Samples l and 2 show 5 and 4 modified to pristine gold grains, low magnetite and niobian perovskite content.

citdsamp.r

Page 8: RPT ON DIAMOND INDICATOR SAMPLING ON PROP OF CITADEL GOLD MINES … · 2017-01-17 · DIAMOND INDICATOR SAMPLING ON THE PROPERTIES OF CITADEL GOLD MINES INC. IN MCMURRAY TP., ONTARIO

Report On Diamond Indicator Sampling Page 6

This suite is indicative of known up-ice geology which includes a few minor gold occurrences (Deep Lake Mine), felsic volcanic rocks and the niobian Firesand Carbonatite.

7.2.2 Samples 13 and 14 contain very large pristine to modified grains of gold and low magnetite content. This is compatable with an up-ice source with numerous gold prospects and past producing gold mines in felsic volcanic and intrusive rocks.

7.2.3 Sample 7 is from a very recent C-horizon disaggregated soil developed in only 7 years over a lamprophyre dyke which was exposed in 1988 by trenching along the high grade Root Vein Gold occurrence. The high gold content is as expected, and is indicative of source.

7.2.4 Samples 3 to 6 and 8 to 12 are from the Firesand River valley. The modest content of reshaped and uodi-f-ied ^oXd grains and higher magnetite contents of these samples -are compatable with known up-ice geology: an area of jnaf-ic volcanics and granitic rocks with numerous high- -and slightly auriferous iron formation beds. The low magnetite contents of samples 10, 11 and 12 are compatabl-e with field descriptions which suggest samples 10 -and J.2 are poorly chosen, with too much organic content.

7.3 Diamond indicators include 2 chromites and 28 picritic ilmenites.

7.3.1 One chromite with a diopside (crustal origin) inclusion is present in sample 7 from the lamprophyre dyke. This indicates that the lamprophyres are sources of -chromite, but that these indicators can be distinguished from hypabyssal diamond indicator chromites.

7.3.2 Samples l and 2 contain 8 and 11 picritic ilmenites and one chromite with good (indicative of diamond bearing kimberlite) hypabyssal chemistry. These are encouraging indicators of up-ice diamond or hypabyssal sources. The known magnetic anomaly in Deep Lake is a candidate source.

7.3.3 The only other diamond indicators are picritic ilmenites in samples 4 and 8. SEM checks indicate probable crustal sources.

7.4 Sample contamination by slag and metal particles produces no spurious indicators to detract from results, but does make indicator mineral picking and identification more tedious.

Dear Mr. Rupert:

Re: KIMs in Samples C-95-01 to 14, Wawa

We have completed our heavy mineral processing and kimberlite indicator mineral search on the above samples of glacial sediments and modern alluvium. Our lab data sheets are attached.

It is clear that the sediments are representative of their surroundings. Evidence for this includes: 1) abundant gold grains (especially in Sample 07 with 70 grains); 2) abundant chalcopyrite in the first half of the sample series (not recorded on our data sheets); 3) abundant andradite and blue anatase in many samples (both minerals believed to derive from lamprophyre dikes although they also occur in the Currie Rose dyke which may be kimberlite); and 4) abundant mill steel and slag from past mining operations. Sample 07 is enriched not only in gold grains but also in pyrite, siderite and hematite indicating that the subjacent bedrock is mainly iron formation rather than the lamprophyre you mentioned in your December 04, 1995 correspondance.

Unfortunately, the samples contain very few KIMs despite the fact that most were oversized 010 kg). No pyrope is present. A couple of chromites were found but neither Is visibly kimberlitic (resorbed). One is from Sample 07 above your lamprophyre dyke; it contains an ovoid diopside inclusion indicating a crustal rather than mantle source. Four samples yielded picroilmenite but this mineral is not in itself kimberlite-diagnostic as it occurs in the Currie Rose dyke without any accompanying pyrope or other KIMs.

We are a little perplexed at the poor results given that Tom Morris had previously outlined a nice dispersal train complete with G-10 pyropes in Trout Creek on you property. When testing your magnetic targets, you may have stepped out too far from Tom's anomaly. Although the Currie Rose and Nicholson dykes are magnetic, geophysics doesn't seem to have been of any help in finding them.

Please call me if you have any questions.

Yours/Sincerely,
