TRANSCRIPT
Well what a night,if you were un-able to attend the Big Art Awards presentations you missed a great night, what would have had to be a record attendance, everybody en-joyed the Art work displayed, the wonderful food and the boys on the
bar were kept very busy.
To all the members that contributed to the exhibition you should be very proud of your effort. Not everybody can be an Award recipient but you are all winners just by being involved. The standard and variety of the displayed works was exceptional..Well done.
I think we are very lucky in having a Mayor ( Cr Tom Tate ) that is genu-inely interested in the Arts and his continual effort to promote the cultural scene within the Gold Coast region. His passion was obvious with his ad-dress to the gathered members.
Our next Big event is going to be in September. We will celebrate our 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Gold Coast Branch of RQAS. The Society has come a long way from those early days, and we are hoping to talk to as many members past and present that can relay some of the events over that 50 years. If any member has memorabilia from that period we would certainly appreci-
ate you contacting us.
The theme for the September exhibi-tion will be "Gold Coast ICONS ", people or places, past and present.
There will be various function during that month, these are still in the plan-ning stage but you will be advised. I hope you can be part of it.
Hope you have noticed the new road-side sign and also above the main en-trance to the Gallery. The roadside sign looks very classy, a great improvement to the old sign, and you can’t miss it of a night with the lights on.
Our outside ART GALLERY flags will be replaced with a smaller more manage-able size.
One of the other events on the horizon is our AGM this will be held in August, so you have plenty of time to contem-plate your commitment to the Society. Being on the committee or by being a helper is most rewarding and it shares the load of the smooth running of the organization.
Finally a big thank you to all the mem-bers and committee for the effort with the Big Art Awards. We seem to be tick-
ing all the right box's.
PS..... Don't forget the $2.00 coffee deal, invite a friend and enjoy a coffee, just $2 for coffee and cake. (Pick up
your ticket at the gallery desk)
Paint like there is no tomorrow.

WELL …. THAT SURE WAS A BIG ART AWARD It’s marvellous what a little promotion will do, possibly just a little more than just a little but it sure went off very well. I’m sure that the Lord Mayor Tom Tate, who officially opened the exhibition with a very impressive speech, and the Lady Mayoress, would have been quite impressed. There would have been around the 200 there who kept Steve and myself flat out all night at the bar. They sure were a very thirsty bunch. The gallery does have a lot of wine glasses and we also hired around 100, however because the patrons didn’t keep their glasses, yep ! We ran out of clean glasses, and so Bob’s daughters jumped in, collected empty glasses, washed them in the glass washer, and brought them back to the bar. Thank you very much girls. Then the son-in-law became the courier to get extra drinks, Yep ! Again, as I said, they were a thirsty bunch.
But it was a very successful evening, and by the way, I did ask Tom for a donation so as we could get a lift. He just smiled and said “Right”. I think I should say ‘Right’ also.

AND THE WINNERS ARE
Why do I paint? A question often
asked by my nearest and dearest as they
compare my artistic efforts to the Old
Masters.
But I guess my artistic passion sprang to
life about 10 years ago when I fell in love
with every Lot at an art auction and knew
in my heart that - ‘Yes! I can paint like
that! All I need are the right tools, a few
lessons and I’m on my way, easy peasy!’
– yeah right!
Since then I’ve learned how to get more
charcoal over myself than on
the paper, the thrill of layer-
ing my colours ‘just so’
causing someone to remark
that I must be tonally chal-
lenged, and being the only
one who completed their course knowing
how to turn juicy jewel-like watercolours
into every shade of mud.
And still I carry on, so why do I paint?
Because I just love it! With brush in
hand, canvas teetering on the easel pegs,
hands and feet in puddles of paint, mood
music permeating the area and my right
brain firmly in gear I can get delightfully
tangled within in my abstracts, walk the
hills and valleys of my landscapes and
promise my painted people to make them
as beautiful as possible. Do I take painting
seriously? You bet I do!
A few years ago I discovered that the
GCCC gallery at Robina allowed artistic
groups to exhibit free for two weeks once
every two years. With this great opportu-
nity in my sights I thought I
would repay those seven artists
who have taught or inspired me
by inviting them to take place in
an exhibition which I would
organise. My part involved can-
vassing for sponsorship prizes for our peo-
ple’s choice awards, advertising and pro-
motion and everything else which goes to
make up a successful art exhibition. After
that I was encouraged to stage a second
exhibition with 11 artists and to date I’m

working on our third at that venue again
with 11 artists, all member of RQAS.
Now under the name of Allied Artists
Expo we have one people’s choice spon-
sor who has been with us since our first
exhibition and three new sponsors, one
of which, Chroma, has donated a par-
ticularly generous prize which I know
the winner of the People’s Choice Most
Voted for Artist award will be surprised
and delighted to receive.
This exhibition will be running from
11th - 23rd June at the GCCC Robina
Gallery, with its opening night Thursday
13 June from 5pm so why not come
along? you can contact me

And don’t worry, you can be assured
that the 10 other artists in our Allied
Artists Expo can all give the Old Mas-
ters a run for their money …

Judge of the art section of the Royal Darwin Show in July. He said he is
