SUBJECT: Request for Approval of First Reading of Board Policies


A major responsibility of the Board of Education is to adopt formal policies for governing the educational practices and operations of the school district. To ensure that these policies are appropriately updated for compliance with required laws and regulations, the Board of Education has utilized the Board Policy Service offered by the Erie I BOCES.

EVALUATION/ANALYSIS

Appropriate revised and new policies developed by this Board Policy Service have been reviewed by district administration and forwarded to the Board of Education with a recommendation for adoption. A first reading approval is required at a regular or special meeting of the Board, followed by a second reading approval and formal adoption at a subsequent meeting of the Board in order for the policies to become effective.

RECOMMENDATION

That the Board of Education approves the first reading of the following Policies and By-Laws:

TO: Board of Education FROM: Shannon C. Shine, Superintendent SUBJECT: Request for Approval of Contract with Oak Hill School from July 1, 2020 through

August 11, 2020 BACKGROUND INFORMATION Section 4402 (2b) of the Education Law authorizes the Board of Education to enter into contracts with institutions within the State of New York for the purpose of providing instruction to certain handicapped children. EVALUATION/ANALYSIS Oak Hill School will provide educational services to one district resident student for the period of July 1, 2020 through August 11, 2020. Tuition for the summer period is $5,464.00, which also includes some services of a 1:1 aide at $114.87 per day. If additional 1:1 aide services are needed, there will be additional fees added to these rates of $114.87 per day. This contract now needs to be approved by the Board of Education. RECOMMENDATION That the Board of Education approve a contract with Oak Hill School for the period of July 1, 2020 through August 11, 2020 for a total of $5,464.00 for the summer months. SCS/SL/kb

for the Summer Months and 2020-2021 School Year BACKGROUND INFORMATION During the summer months and 2020-2021 school year, the District will be required to provide Physical Therapy services to District resident students with disabilities. The service needed is stipulated in the students’ IEPs. EVALUATION/ANALYSIS Effective July 6, 2020 – August 14, 2020 and the 2020-2021 school year, the District will be required to provide such services. Kayla Smith, Physical Therapist, is agreeable to enter into a contract with the district to provide Physical Therapy services to district resident students. In return for her providing these services, the Rotterdam-Mohonasen Central School District will compensate Kayla Smith at a rate of $55 per hour for approximately $66,110 to cover direct services, travel between buildings, evaluation, paper work, and consultant and meeting time for the period July 6, 2020 and continuing through June 25, 2021. RECOMMENDATION That the Board of Education enter into a contract with Kayla Smtih to provide Physical Therapy services to District resident students at a cost of $55.00 per hour, for an estimated cost of $66,110 for the period of July 6, 2020 through June 25, 2021. SUBJECT: Request for Acceptance of Monetary Donations from Several Donors


Board of Education Policy Section 5240 stipulates the Board may accept donations, which will add to the overall welfare of the District. This year the District has started a MohonCARES initiative with the mission of combining area resources to empower students. MohonCARES serves the Anchor Rooms, Food Pantries and Weekend Backpack Programs throughout the District.

EVALUATION/ANALYSIS

The Board of Education is being asked to accept 18 monetary donations totaling $1937 to support the MohonCARES program from:
