Unlike conventional centrifugal pumps, theRoto-Jet pump will not seize if run dry by a lossof suction or if operated with a minimalcontinuous bypass flow against a closeddischarge valve. The mechanical seal is notmounted to the pump drive shaft, therefore, sealfailure temperature rise is not transferred to thecritical drive shaft/bearing area. The Roto-Jetdesign does not incorporate wear rings or anyclose shaft tolerances which would be subject toheat expansion and drive shaft seizure.
Performance Flexibility
Any given model is capable of higher or lowerpressure performance by simply changing theexternal pump speed and applying the required
horsepower. No modification of thepump is required. A wide range offlow capability is achieved by
simply changingthe pitot tube.
Operation
The Roto-Jet is totally, hydraulically stable andcan operate with a minimal continuous bypassflow at shutoff indefinitely and at any flow pointthroughout the total head curve rang with nowearing or damaging effect to the pump. Thereason for this unique benefit is that all radialforces tend to be balanced within the rotor, andaxial thrust is solely a function of suctionpressure. Radial and axial forces applied to theRoto-Jet are independent of flow rate. Thus, thepump can operate at design point to shut-offfree of shaft deflection or added thrust loadapplied to the bearings
Design Simplicity
A single stage pump with only two basicworking parts; (1) a rotating case and (2) astationary pitot tube. The pump has only onewearing, rubbing part and that is amechanical seal that sees onlysuction pressure. Seal leakage dueto seal failure vents to atmosphere.Seal leakage cannotcontaminate bearing areadue to isolation of thebearing pedestalfrom the wettedend of the pump.For this reason, the Roto-Jet can be kept in servicewith a damaged seal to meet thecritical demands of dailyproduction.
