Rotation plan refers to regular, successive, recurrent posting of various groups of students
belonging to different levels of learning (different classes) in clinical field.
Master rotation planOverall plan of rotation of all the students in a particular educational institution, showing the
placement of students belonging to various groups or classes in clinical nursing as well as community
nursing field denoting the duration.
Clinical rotation plan
Defined as the plan of all the students in subgroups through various experiences in a particular
block of clinical experiences
Principles of rotation planning
Principles related to the development of clinical rotation plan will help to accomplish the objectives
of the clinical postings in a more effective manner. The principles are
1. The clinical rotation plan must be developed in accordance with the master plan of thecurriculum and theoretical instruction should precede as closely as possible to the clinical
experience.
2. The rotation plan must be made in advance with cooperation of all the faculty members involvedin the clinical teaching.
3.
Maxims of teaching should be followed while selecting areas of experience.4. Principle of continuity, sequence and integration should be followed to the maximum extent
possible.
5. Enough teaching staff should be made available in the clinical areas for giving properinstructions to the students.
6. Seeking suggestions of the nursing staff working in the clinical areas will ensure theircooperation. Moreover giving adequate weightage to the suggestions of the nursing staff will
help to post the students in such a way that they will get enough exposure to the patient care
activities rather than spending time in the name of clinical experience.
7. First year student should receive maximum supervision and attention.8. All the students should get enough experience as per the clinical rotation plan. If any student
misses experience in an area due to unavoidable reasons provision should be there to
compensate. Student should be motivated to continue in the clinical areas more than the
prescribed time for attending the board or university exam.
9. All assignments related to the clinical should be finished before the completion of the postingsespecially when the students are posted in other institutions other than the parent institution.
10.Overcrowding in the clinical area with different groups of students is not advisable.
