COMMUNICABLE DISEASE ROTATION OBJECTIVES FORM Purpose of Rotation: In the course of the rotation residents will gain experience in assessing CD-related health needs of a population; investigating-CD health issues; assessing sociopolitical realities and advocating the appropriate action to improve health; plan, implement and evaluate CD/immunization related health programs and/or strategies, and understand the application of legal, technical, economic and health educational approaches to CD-related issues. Instructions: The form is to be completed, reviewed and signed off with your rotation supervisor before the start of each rotation. A signed copy is to be submitted to the Program Director no later than the first day of the rotation. Keep a copy for review at mid-unit evaluation and at final evaluation. At the end of each rotation, please complete the “Evidence of Achievement of Objectives” column of the form and review with your supervisor. Consider this information in the resident, faculty and site evaluations. Then, sign the form along with your supervisor and resubmit to your Program Director. Investigate and manage a communicable disease outbreak. Develop, implement and evaluate a CD surveillance and control program. Develop, implement and evaluate an immunization program To a CD issue, apply principles and strategies of: -harm reduction -health protection -disease prevention -health promotion Use legal dispositions as appropriate. Assess ethical issues in surveillance and control. Demonstrate use of prophylaxis and treatment modalities as appropriate in the Community Medicine context. Understand & apply determinants of causality (eg Koch, Hill) Act as a consultant to other physicians and health care providers on CD issues.

Develop a communication plan about a CD issue, including a media component. Respond to media enquiries about CD issues. Demonstrate effective listening skills, and elicit and provide feedback.
