DG‟S MESSAGE „Marilyn and I are in our 3rd week of official DG club visits and we are enjoying the very special privilege of visiting every one of our 70 clubs. It‟s refreshing to say that all clubs are different, all have their own history, own customs and own way of doing things. This is a good thing.‟

Conference in Canberra on 21-22 August 2010 ( As reported by PP Barry Wills )

The photo is a bit dark; taken with my mobile phone.

The following are my takeaways from the conference --

The theme was Change:

President Ray comes from cattle country and his Cowboy Logic was simple: “If you keep on doin what your doin your gonna keep gettin what you got”.

Change is driven by Clubs not RI or District.

Need to ask what is it we‟re doing in clubs that could be done better? What do we need to change?

If you bring goodwill together, out of that will come service.

Therefore we need to make our clubs attractive.

Retention is a major issue; members in the front door and out the back.

Question everything we do:

What is the image on entry to the club?

Are we inclusive to all our members?

Are our meetings interesting?

Are our rituals relevant to our audience?

Is our terminology meaningful to our audience?

Focus on engagement rather than attendance?

Are we flexible enough?

No sacred cows! Need to align with others for leverage. Need more National voice / co-ordination.
