What’s happening at Ascot Rotary Club?
On Saturday Night the Ascot Rotary Club had a joint celebration we combined our changeover with our 50th Birthday Celebration it was a momentous night and even featured a link with the historic Apollo Moon Landing fifty years ago.
The “Mistress of Ceremonies” for the night was Past President Dianne Reed.
Di did a magnificent job and kept everyone on his or her toes with a mini “quiz night” format, you had a choice to answer a question on the moon landing or the history of our club. Needless to say if you got your answer right or wrong you paid up!
As is the custom, Dianne introduced and

As is the custom, Dianne welcomed our distinguished guests and all members and partners:
Past District Governor Hugh Langridge and wife Karon Past District Governor and past Ascot Rotarian Paul Gianatti and his wife Doreen. Past District Governor and past Ascot Rotarian Jodie Sparks. Welcome also to Assistant Governor Rick Sneeuwjagt and his partner Mandy. Dianne extended a very special welcome to all present and past Ascot Rotarians, their partners, friends and family members who attended this historic meeting. On behalf of our absentee President, Aidan Wood and President Elect Hugh Langridge, Dianne welcomed us all to the Ascot Rotary Club Birthday Dinner; and Handover Ceremony; as we move from the 2018/19 year to the 2019/2020 Rotary year. Absent friends were acknowledged with a special mention by Di. Sadly this year we have lost three of our members and a close friend of our Rotary club. I would like to acknowledge them and ask that we remember the amazing things they have done for Rotary over their time with us: Fred Rae Glenys Stephenson Brian Webster And Geoff Malthouse, husband of past member Ronnie Malthouse. We thank them sincerely for their contributions and may they rest in Peace.
RI President Mark Maloney’s message was received:
Rotary Connects the World
“Rotary allows us to connect with one another, in deep and meaningful ways, across our differences. It connects us with people we would never otherwise have met, who are more like us than we ever could have known. It connects us with our communities, to professional opportunities, and to the people who need our help.
All of us are in Rotary together, whoever we are, wherever we are from, whatever language we speak or traditions we follow.
We are all connected to one another — part of our communities and members not only of our clubs, but also of the global community to which we all belong.”
Dianne then presented a message from President Aidan: “President Aidan has asked that he be remembered to us all tonight. Currently he and his wife Tania are in Tasmania where Tania has taken up physiotherapy contract in the Hobart area. He hopes that the dinner tonight is a huge success and he is disappointed that he is not here with us tonight. He asked that his special thanks be passed onto the current Board for their efforts in supporting him during the year and to all members of the club who have stepped up in his absence. Certificates of Appreciation on behalf of President Aidan were presented to the 2018-‐2019 Board Members.

Aidan particularly wanted to acknowledge the work of one member, Stephen Kendall for his services to the District programs, in particular, to RYLA and RYPEN”. Stephen Kendall was then asked by Dianne to come forward and accept a certificate from Past District Governor Robyn Yates in her appreciation for all the work that he has done in these areas. Aidan acknowledged the contribution that retiring member Roma Gehringer has made to the club over the years that she has been a member and he hopes that Roma will stay in touch and was thanked for all her efforts. Additionally, Aidan especially requested Dianne to acknowledge Christine Goss who has put in a huge effort to plan and promote Bricktober in the past and provide support to other directors in various roles that they assumed. Christine was wished all the very best and Aidan hopes that she along with Roma will stay in touch with their Rotary family. In Aidan’s closing comments he would like to thank all members of the club for their support and he believes that fellowship is one of the main driving forces behind the success of this club. He wishes us all the very best for the next Rotary year and looks forward to joining us again when they get back to Perth. If you would like to see Aidan’s complete report, please read it in the Annual Report. Presentations: Paul Harris Fellow President Hugh presented two very deserving recipients of this prestigious award to Gren Courtland and wife Jill for completing fifty successful years as a Charter Member and Partner to the Rotary Club of Ascot. Rotary Foundation Past District Governor Hugh Langridge made presentations to those who have contributed $100 Australian to the Rotary Foundation. Bulletin Editor Michelle Kendall was recognised for an amazing job of keeping us informed and making sure we are reminded of our next meetings and programs. Michelle was given a complete copy of the 2018-‐2019 Ascot Bulletin. 100% Attendance Awards Michelle Kendall and Hugh Langridge received recognition for their 100% attendance. Ascot Rotarian of the year This esteemed award was presented to Stephen Kendall for his untiring work in supporting the club and particularly with his work of the very successful Bricktober Event. A REFLECTION OF THE YEAR Dianne described some of the things that Ascot Rotarians do and do well. It is important to celebrate the great things we have done. We love to enjoy good food and good fellowship and managed to do that a number of times this past year; the District Governor’s Dinner with District Governor Robyn at the Italian Club; an acknowledgement dinner for those who worked at Bricktober; our usual Christmas function and a number of social breakfasts interspersed between our formal meetings. All were great opportunities for getting together, enjoying being together and learning more about each other. Bricktober has been our number one fund -‐ raiser for the past few years now and the number one project that all members have been involved in during the year. It is an amazing weekend with some incredible results, not least the looks on the faces of the people, young and old who are seeing the displays for the first time. Aidan would like to thank everyone involved in the event and he loved the way that it brought us all together for the weekend, tiring though it might have been.
