Dear Friends of Rosie’s House, Thank you for your generosity in our 2012-2013 school year. With your support, Rosie’s House provided a full-range of tuition-free afterschool classes during the 2012-2013 school year. For 17 years, Rosie’s House has strived to accomplish an inspiring musical feat – providing music education and loanded instruments to disadvantaged students. During our 2012-2013 school year, we served 368 students and presented 56 uplifting events including workshops with amazing guest artists, field trips to inspiring professional concerts and our own series of recitals and concerts. We continued our community collaborations with The Phoenix Symphony, Phoenix Chamber Music Society, Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center and Arizona School for the Arts, and we started exciting collaborations with the Arizona State University School of Music Mariachi Program and Phoenix Collegiate Academy. During the 2012-2013 school year, Rosie’s House piloted a year-long partnership with Phoenix Collegiate Academy which is a charter school located in the South Mountain Village Community. Rosie’s House provided afterschool training in violin to students in 5-8th grade. The majority of students had no prior musical training (89%) and the student population has significant financial barriers (the average household income is $22,000 annually). Through this partnership, Rosie’s House has had a wider reach and impact in our community.

In the stories of our students, the success of this past year is also reflected. Rosie’s House is proud of all of our students and feels that Maribel’s and Julian’s stories are particularly powerful.

Maribel, a 17-year old Junior at Carl Hayden High School and Rosie’s House flute student, took 4th place in the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors’ annual state-wide competition. This accomplishment required months of diligent preparation and is a highly competitive process. Maribel performed in the All State Band Concert on April 20th at Northern Arizona University. Julian started playing saxophone in 5th grade. He heard about Rosie’s House from his band teacher. During his senior year, his goal was to prepare for college auditions. The day before his audition, Julian’s alto saxophone was stolen from his home. Luckily, he was able to audition with the soprano saxophone loaned to him by Rosie’s House. Julian was awarded a full scholarship to Grand Canyon University.

“I am excited to study music education at Grand Canyon University because I believe in the power of music. I know that music teaches me how to express my emotions, overcome my fears and music education has been the key to my success. Thank you for supporting me!”

– Julian

Thank you for providing a gift that lasts a lifetime to our students.
