Rosemary Works Newsletter 7th February 2014TRANSCRIPT
This week in Nursery Class we have been learning about different types of food. We have learnt what types of animals produce food and understand the difference between the words 'healthy' and 'unhealthy' as well as trying out some yummy food from different countries! We were lucky enough to sample some traditional Danish buns, Chinese wafers, Cornish cream scones and some sweets that came all the way from Beijing! On top of all of this it was Waitangi Day on Thursday and Olivia brought us in some meringues to make our very own pavlovas and Ferruccio on Friday brought in some Italian biscuits for snack time! Reception Class have been getting their Write Dance on... They've been on a deep sea adventure using their whole bodies and their super acting skills to make waves and pedal their way out to sea to see what creatures they could spot....whales, angel fish, octopi, jellyfish and sharks - they encountered them all before being knocked out of their pedal-boats by giant waves and swimming back to a desert island to draw their adventure - phew! Take a look at the fun and their lovely drawings!
This week Year 1 have been busy preparing for the arrival of their new friends. We have written the start and middle of wonderful crash landing stories based on the book Beegu written by Alexis Deacon. The children have been working extremely hard with their creative writing and we are very proud. We have the special task this weekend of looking after an alien egg. In science we have started talking about life cycles and what we need to survive. Today the children used their DT knowledge gained from previous enrichment lessons to design and make an alien egg transportation device so they can safely get their alien egg home tomorrow. We are all looking forward to the result!
In Year 2/3 we have begun to design our own pop-up planets book. We looked at different mechanisms and thought about how we could use them for our project. We discussed inputs and outputs of these mechanisms. We can't wait to start making our pop-pages next week!
This week, the focus was to be smart – make sure coats and hats are put on pegs, tuck in shirts when needed, be polite and generally carry themselves well so these children did a great job with that! Well done to you all! Next week’s focus is to be extra friendly, kind to each other, inclusive and tolerant. The Musician of the Week goes to Claude in Nursery Class. Her energy, enthusiasm and effort during their recent 'dance' lessons has been amazing! She dances well with great control of her body. She always has great ideas for moves and her listening and speaking skills are excellent! Well done you! The Artist of the Week goes to Sam in Year 1. His use of shading and contrast is really effective in this piece and his level of concentration was fantastic. Well done Sam!

Alexi for always putting his coat on and doing up his zip independently and for always being
so polite and friendly at all times!
Erik for making sure he always hangs his jumper and coat on his peg and for always saying
good morning to his friends.
Hector for using his fantastic manners and always being so polite and friendly to his friends.
RECEPTION CLASS
Hugo you really deserve this award. You always look smart, remembering you
tuck your shirt in, clean your face after lunch, zip your coat up when you go
outside in cold weather and tidy up after yourself! Hugo what a gleaming
example you are to the rest of the children in the class. Very well done!
YEAR 1
Sebastien For making extra effort to really look after school property and
take pride in his work this week. He has been looking after all of his and
school’s property.
YEAR 2/3
Jorge for really embracing the new handwriting scheme and always giving it
100% in all that he does in class. You have also been really smart this week!
In Paul’s Enrichment Time group this week they created parachutes based on their own clever designs to see whether an egg would withstand the drop from the roof of the school and land safely intact on impact. There were some mixed results, but no one ended up with egg on their face!
