SAP Next-Gen Labs at universities foster connections between academic thought leaders, researchers & students, and the SAP ecosystem including SAP customers, startups and accelerators, tech community partners, venture firms, purpose driven partners, and digital innovation experts from SAP and its partners to drive innovation with purpose, the future of sustainable industries linked to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the experience economy.

Universities which open an SAP Next-Gen Lab have opportunities to:

• open new channels to share thought leadership and colLaborate with other thought leaders in academia and industry on the technologies and innovation methodologies driving the digital transformation of industries

• educate students with knowledge and skills for digital futures

• connect companies recruiting next generation leaders with students and graduates who have digital transformation knowledge and skills

• showcase startups with corporates seeking to seed in disruptive innovation

• Conduct SAP Next-Gen projects which may include industry partners

The Lab or Chapter can focus on a particular technology: either one of the SAP Solutions such as SAP S/4HANA or SAP Leonardo offerings such as machine learning, blockvhain, etc. The focus could also be on one of the programs or initiatives that SAP Next-Gen is globally scaling such as SAP Next-Gen for youth, citizens, partners, gender equality, purpose network and enterprises. The focus could also be a combination of these depending on your community needs, interests, and expertise.

It’s very important to assign a lead from your university who will manage the opening process of the Lab at the initial phase. Later on, you could look into assigning additional team members to cover specific functions such as marketing, business development, operations, etc. depending on the Lab’s size and focus.

Identify key partners for your prospective innovation Lab or Chapter such as internal and external stakeholders. Internal Stakeholders include but are not limited to faculty members, researchers, and student clubs. External Stakeholders include industry partners, SAP customer and partners, Local SAP User Group, NGO’s, Start-ups, Accelerators, VC’s, etc.

Choose an SAP Next-Gen model for you campus. It can either be in the form of a physical space (Lab) or a virtual space.

HOW TO CREATE AN SAP

Reach out to your SAP Next-Gen country manager to provide you with the media branding file. The SAP Next-Gen logo can be used for signage and/or wallpaper.

The final step is to engage with your community. Plan thought leadership events and meet ups focused on specific technologies, industries, or themes. Invite your local community to contribute to and attend events. Continuously look into recruiting new partners and bringing new ideas into the Lab/Chapter.

You’ll need to allocate space for the Lab. Scope out available space for it on campus and ensure that it would fit the purpose of the Lab in terms of seating capacity and the amount of furniture, IT equipment, etc. The space could be a computer Lab, conference room, ideation room, etc.

Launch the Lab or Chapter and plan the first activities/projects. Agree on a launch date with your SAP Next-Gen country manager to ensure SAP representation at the event and start with the first SAP Next-Gen activity or project. Plan media coverage such as press releases or social media.

If a project does not meet one or more of the above criteria, the SAP Next-Gen team can assist the parties to explore alternatives for accessing SAP software (e.g. students might work on an SAP customer’s system, or students might use SAP software free trials and downloads, or an SAP subsidiary may be able to support with a test/demo license, ...)

SAP LEGAL GUIDELINES ON SAP

NEXT-GEN PROJECTS

WHEN AN SAP UNIVERSITY ALLIANCES (UA) MEMBER PROPOSES AN

SAP NEXT-GEN PROJECT AND NEEDS SAP SOFTWARE HOSTED BY A

UNIVERSITY COMPETENCE CENTER, SAP LEGAL REQUIRES THREE CHECKS

TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE UA SOFTWARE LICENSE MAY BE USED.

Academic Projects

SAP Employee Involvement

Commerical Involvement

Make sure the project is an academic project. It shouldn’t have any commercial purpose and should not be “consulting” or “training”

Projects should be e.g. academic semester projects, academic student demonstrations, etc.

If a commercial company is involved, make sure they agree to the following:

• Employees of the company are not and will not be project members

• Any funding provided by the company is in the form of an unconditional donation

• Any results will be shared to the public (not privately to only the company involved)

If SAP employees are to be involved, their role is limited to upskilling on ideation techniques and using SAP softwares

SAP employees cannot be project members

Only if all 3 of the above checks apply may the SAP University Alliances software license be used

SAP no longer permits the use of the term SAP Next-Gen “Consulting”
