R0ME at WARThese profiles have been designed to be used with GW’s LOTR rules where one model represents one warrior. Although players will start the game with their models all nicely ranked up, they will soon find themselves amongst mayhem as you try to control each individual model to retain formation and hopefully win the day.

Personal HeroObviously not all leaders were created equal, the charts below allow you to customise your personal character. You may experience one Decurion, Centurion, Tribune or Legate to make him your Personal Hero to make him stand out and give a bit of personality to your pieces of plastic and metal. For each 5pts spent on experience you can roll once on one of the charts below (max 3 rolls) Should your hero receive the same mod twice then take the alternative option listed; if both are taken, then roll again. Choose how many experience rolls you will make on each chart before rolling.

SkillsDie Roll

1 Fighting Reputation. The Hero causes Terror in his foes.2 Commanding Presence. The Heroes ‘Stand Fast’ is 12” rather than the normal 6”3 Heroic Fighter. The Hero can calls a Heroic Fight every fight phase without expending any Might.4 Master of Battle. If an enemy character calls a Heroic Action within 6” of your hero then he may

call an identical action without expending any Might.5 Immortal. The Hero can re-roll any failed Fate rolls. (you cannot re-roll a re-roll)6 Beloved. Any friendly model within 6” will automatically pass any Courage Tests he has to make.

Weapons of RomeThe weapons that do not appear in the LOTR rules are described below:

Pilum. The pilum is a short ranged missile thrown immediately before contact and is designed to disrupt enemy formations and immobilise the enemy shields.Range 6” S4 – no move penalty when shooting. Cannot be thrown when charging.

Nothing has given me a greater headache than that of trying to get workable rules in the LOTR game as the humble pilum; there are many ways to get a ‘historical’ effect for these weapons but they often become too complicated or unwieldy and disrupt the easy flow of the simple LOTR rules. After a little research I found that the pila was only really used just prior to combat and thrown from the halt, after that it was down to sword and shield. Sometimes pila were thrown over the heads of the legionaries fighting at the front. After bashing my head for several months trying to come up with a simple solution by allowing the legionary to fight in two ranks, partly due to supporting pilum and which can also be thrown.

Javelin. Counts as a normal throwing weapon.

Sling. Highly skilled with the slings use, the Spanish slingers are quite capable of taking down the toughest of enemiess.Range 18” S3 – half move to shoot.

Cornicern & Lituus Horn. The Cornicern is used to transmit orders to the cohort. If a hero within 3" of the Cornicern calls a Heroic Action the Might point is restored on a 4+
