“He indeed died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.” Is Christ calling you to die to self and live for Him as a priest, deacon or in the consecrated life? Talk to your pastor or contact the Vocation Office at 718-827-2454 or [email protected].
Living God's Word When we find ourselves being brought to a new place in life, we often presume that the new des-tination will be clear before us and without tur-moil. Yet crossing to the other side of anything is always unsettling. In the end faith does not just calm our insides for the duration of the journey. Faith is the strength and wisdom we have knowing that Christ is in our boat. Copyright © 2014, World Library Publications. Right reserved.

Our parish goal for the 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal is $23,540. This goal is based on the most current financials of our parish that were submitted to the Diocese. Knowing the goodness of our parish-ioners, when they see the need, they will respond. Again this year, the Bishop has agreed to gift back all monies collected over goal to the parish. So far 72 parishioners have donated $15,621. Please make every effort to help Saint Josaphat’s reach our goal again this year.

The Parish Right to Life Committee has placed around the Church a very informative booklet NOW AND AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH. It's a Catholic guide to End-of-Life Decision-Making, which unfortunately most of us will have to make for either a loved one or for ourselves. Feel free to take home a copy to read and share with a family member or friend. If none are left, please let us know by dropping a note in the Sug-gestion Box in the back of the Church.
Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflecting on God's Word
In today's Gospel, Mark says that the invi-tation to journey to a new and different shore comes from Jesus. He is the one who suggests, "Let us cross to the other side. (Mark 4:35).Yet that invitation comes as evening draws on, as so often happens in life. It comes amid the shadows of life where clarity of action is seldom sharp or distinct. Then to step into the boat is indeed an act of faith. Who would ever choose a crossing at such a time? Yet it was "as eve-ning drew on" that Jesus said to his disci-ples, "Let us cross to the other side." And so they go. It is at this point that they take Jesus into their boat, which is always what is ex-pected of the disciple--that the Lord be in-vited on the journey, and that the journey to the other side be made together. The Je-sus story ends in calm and stillness, but that is not its promise. What is assured is that faith can bring one to the other side, which is also the assurance given to Job out of the storm-that it is God who made the thick darkness and put limits on the sea, all along knowing its ability to burst forth. It is God who knows creation and is in con-trol, it is Jesus who knows the human jour-ney and accompanies us, and it is faith that sustains us in the midst of storms. The Right to Life Committee is asking that all baby bottles be returned even if it is only half full or empty. Only 80 of the 150 baby bottles that were taken this year have been returned. We really don't want Bridge to Life to use any of the money we collected for them to be used to pur-chase new bottles when those less fortunate than us need so much help. We thank all for their effort. There is a basket in the back of the Church in which you may leave them.
