Cold foiling and printing in only one process

Foil applicationsEnhancement of substrates is becoming increasingly important in the printing industry. The foil application process is often to be found as an offline process in hot foil stamping and foil laminating. With the ROLAND InlineFoiler Prindor, manroland offers a highly interesting and at the same time simple inline process.

First printing unit: transfer of a special oil-based ink from a standard offset plate to the substrate.

Second printing unit: foil transfer device above the printing unit, which guides the foil into the printing zone. On contact with the substrate, the metalized foil layer is stripped off in the inked parts due to the adhesive power of the ink.

Third printing unit: foil rewinding station. From the third printing unit, printing is done as usual – onto the substrate and, in this case, the applied foil.

New design ideasWith the ROLAND InlineFoiler Prindor, foil can be applied true to register – down to the smallest detail. Repeated overprinting of the foil in one pass produces new, high-class designs. This supports innovative printing companies in attaining a leading position in the market.

New business modelsUpgrading existing presses opens up new business opportunities. The number of differ-ent applications with the ROLAND InlineFoiler Prindor is virtually unlimited. manroland customers have been successful in the following segments:

Commercial printing Publication printing Packaging printing Label printing Special niche markets

EfficiencyThe ROLAND InlineFoiler Prindor is an efficient process for foil application. Its advantages are derived from inline production in particular. Furthermore, there are no additional costs for printing form production because standard offset plates are used.

Equipment versions and options

Single-reel or multi-reel: Depending on requirements, the ROLAND InlineFoiler Prindor can be equipped as single-reel (one foil reel) or, with auxiliary device, as multi-reel (ROLAND 500 up to three reels, ROLAND 700 HiPrint up to five reels). With multi-reel, the foil width can be flexibly adapted to the subject to be printed, thus saving foil costs.

QuickChange Reel: Additional tensioning or holding mandrels for the makeready process. As upgrade, additional holding mandrels of six inch and three inch reel cores can be singly ordered. A number of foil reels can thus be prepared for upco-ming reel change. Makeready time for reel change and the press downtime connected with it can thus be decisively reduced.

Loading device: A crane is needed for loading and removing the reels. If necessary, this can be optionally ordered.

Advantages

Efficient inline enhancement at production-run speed Extremely short throughput times Saving in tool costs because of simple offset form, no extra

production of a stamping form No distortion of the substrate because there is no heat-up

effect Many different possibilities of design Opening up of new business models

Remarks

Possibility of retrofitting depends on the series of the press.
