I served as coordinator of this team-taught course, utilizing 3 to 5 faculty each semester. I designed semester calendars, scheduled curriculum content, planned the introduction and development of concepts to students in relation to tasks and in-class performances. The design of the schedule allowed each faculty to take the lead in turn and to present their areas of expertise or interest. I also took attendance, recorded grades, and video recorded student performances (and made them available online) as needed.j. e. Current Research and/or Creative Projects in ProgressCentral in FlorenceHaving established positive relationship with our study abroad sister school Accademia Europea di Firenze (AEF), its administrators and faculty through collaborative performance and teaching since 2011, I am working to design an annual summer program for UCM students in Italy. Ultimately, the program will be an ongoing collaboration between AEF and the UCM Dept. of Music. Progress has already been made, considering two other faculty, Dr. James Gai and Dr. Jacob Sentgeorge have also performed in Florence, an aftereffect of my efforts.

Last summer, I lived with five UCM music majors in Florence, Italy, who studied Italian language, took applied lessons, and music coaching at AEF. My past three visits to Florence have better informed me to the challenges and benefits of this kind of international travel and study. My priority is to create a seamless enrollment for students along with excellent educational and musical opportunities while abroad. f. Community Music Program (CMP)I have been teaching high school students through the CMP program since 2006. Many of them become award-winning vocalists in their high school careers and continue on to other competitive regional universities. For example, Kendall Reimer, Jackson Thomas, and Cody Meyer went on to study at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and Sydney Guthrie to Oklahoma City University. Former CMP students now enrolled at UCM in music degree programs: Amber Naugle, Kelsey Sweitzer. Former CMP students who also transferred to UCM from other colleges to study music: Kaitlyn Miller, Barbara Solomon.

Optional Statement

Preparing the dossier in application for the rank of Full Professor has been a satisfying and edifying experience. Having compiled evaluations from chairs, faculty, and students, I am overwhelmed at the respect I have gained from colleagues and students alike. For the numerous positive comments that students have submitted through music department and online course evaluations, there is substantial evidence that I am inspiring and positively impacting students' growth as musicians as well as human beings. While my priority is to guide students toward a fully sustainable life as a musician, music teacher, or performer, there is proof that my teaching yields successes beyond that directive.

The rate at which my students succeed in auditions or competitions has only increased since I obtained the rank of Associate Professor. To name a few, my students have placed in competitions or participated in select groups such as the National Honor Choir of ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), Naftzger Young Artist Auditions, Kansas City NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), Missouri State NATS, MMTA (Missouri Music Teachers Association), MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), and our own UCM Quistorff Opera Aria Prize Competition and UCM Concerto Aria Competition. I am extremely proud to have had a total of five UCM concerto winners from my studio in the past nine years, and to have had three in the past five, in a competition open to the entire music student body with external judges. The same students who achieve in these competitions are typically the same who continue their studies beyond UCM. In the fall of 2013, former students Heather Wheeler entered the Doctor of Musical Arts program in vocal performance at the University of Kansas with graduate assistantship and Derek Cross entered the Master of Music program in choral conducting at Florida State University.

In the area of Scholarly/Creative activity, I completed six international/national performances since 2012, five of which were in Florence, Italy. Regional performances include a guest recital at Aurora University in Illinois and two with the Wichita Grand Opera in Kansas as a Resident Artist for the 2011 season. Other national recognition includes my performance at the 53rd National Conference of NATS in Boston, this past July. The breakout session, "Singing Our History" was endorsed and attended by the keynote speaker, world-renowned baritone, Thomas Hampson. Additionally, I was named semi-finalist in two unique national competitions sponsored by The American Prize. The first is the Chicago Oratorio Award, and the second is the Friedrich and Virginia Schorr Memorial Award, Professional Art Song division.

In the area of service, my close interaction with students in SAI (Sigma Alpha Iota) and SNATS (Student National Association of Teachers of Singing) is greatly rewarding but requires substantial commitment of time and energy. In addition to my regular music department committee duties, solo performances, attending student recitals, and teaching preparations, it is not uncommon for me to spend at least two or three late nights each semester in ritual or rehearsal with SAI, particularly serving as their piano accompanist. There are many more hours spent in meetings, dealing with fraternity business, correspondence, planning, and reservations for events. The same is true for SNATS. To assist them in their worthwhile initiatives, one of which is attending the Kansas City Lyric Opera productions at the Kauffman Center in Kansas City, I gladly serve as a driver for students who do not have transportation. I also attend the operas with the students. Every year, SNATS offers a fall recital with faculty and students and a spring art song competition for which they contract an external guest to judge and give a master class. These big events require advising in grant applications, fundraising, and much more planning with students and faculty.

I maintain my service to the profession beyond UCM. At the state and regional levels, I adjudicated regularly with MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association), gave master classes at Missouri high schools, and at the college level, have adjudicated for state and regional NATS. At the national level, I adjudicated the high school voice division of the NAACP ACT-SO (National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) National Competition in 2010, and I served as a reviewer for the promotion and tenure committee of the University of South Dakota in 2013.

In conclusion, I very much appreciate the opportunity to expand upon some of my achievements. I remain humbled by the talent and work of my colleagues who have completed this process. I believe the true reward is the process itself. Thank you very much.
