Congratulations!You’renowtheproudowneroftheROCCAT™Valo–theversatilegamingkeyboardwithacleverdesign.Ithasanunparalleledrangeoffeaturesthat’llhelpyouimproveyourperformanceandbecomeanoutstandingpro.

Thekeyboardcanbefullycustomizedtosuitbothyourgameplayaswellasindividualgames,deliveringalevelofflexibilitythatisunmatched.

The41macrokeyscanbeassignedmacrosquicklyandeasily.Programyourowncommandsequencestosuityourownneedsandthoseofthegame.Atthesametime,you’llneverneedtoleavethegameonce.Evenduringthegame,youcanrecordandsavemacros–andevenassignthemtokeys.Asaresult,you’llnolongerneedtothinkaboutwhichmacrosmightbeusefulinaparticularsituationbeforeplayingagame.Justusethemandrecordthemdirectlyduringthegame.

Youcanevenstoreacompleteprofile,comprisingfourlayers,onthekeyboarditself.ThisProfile-2-Goallowsyoutotakeyourmacrosandconfigswithyouwhereveryougo–withoutneedingtotakeyourcomputerwithyou.JustplugthekeyboardintoanycomputerandyoucancallupanduseyourProfile-2-Go.

You’llneverlosetrackofyourmacros,despitetheunbelievablenumberthatcanbeprogrammed:usingtheon-screendisplayandLCD,youcanseewhichlayerofthefiveprofilesyou’recurrentlyinatanytime.Inaddition,you’vegot45interchangeablekeysinthreecolorsatyourdisposal.Theseallowyoutosplitthevariousfunctionsofyourmacrosintothreecategories.Toensurethekeyboarddoesn’tsufferanydamagewhenyou’reswappingkeys,apracticalKeyReleaserisincludedallowingyoutoswapkeysinnotimeatall.

Foldoutthekeyboardfeetandplacethekeyboardonalevelsurface.

ConnectthekeyboardtotwofreeUSBportsonyourcomputer.Theblackconnectorsuppliesthekeyboardwithpower;thegrayconnectorisusedfortransferringdatabetweenthekeyboardandthecomputer.

Plugthegreenheadphoneconnectorintoyoursoundcard’sheadphoneoutput,andthepinkmicrophoneconnectorintoyoursoundcard’smicrophoneinput.

TousetheGamingMicrophone,plugitintothemicrophonejack(pink)ontheright-handsideofthekeyboard.Toavoidanylooseconnections,besuretopushthemicrophoneconnectorandguidepinfullyintotheintendedsockets.

Alternativelyyoucanplugaheadsetintothekeyboard.Todothat,plugthegreenheadphoneconnectorintotheheadphoneoutputsocket,andthepinkmicrophoneconnectorintothepinkmicrophoneinputsocketonthekeyboard.

iNSTALLATiON UNdER WiNdOWS® XP/WiNdOWS ViSTA®

InsertthesuppliedCDintoyourCD-ROMdriveanddoubleclickthefile‘setup.exe’.Followtheon-screeninstructions.Click‘ContinueAnyway’ifWindowslogotestingisnotpassed.

Oncetheinstallationprocessiscompleted,restartyourcomputer.

TheROCCATsymbolwillnowappearontheright-handsideinthetaskbar.YoucanaccesstheROCCAT™Valoconfigurationmenubyrightclickingit.

Note:The driver will automatically uninstall older ROCCAT driver versions. It may take a while until the driver is installed and ready for use.


SWAPPiNG KEyS

PlacetheKeyReleaserverticallyabovethekeyyouwanttoswapandpressdownuntilitclicksontobothsides.Pullthekeyoutinaverticalmovement.Youcansimplyplacethenewkeyintheholeandpressitdownintoplace.

Youcanadjustvarioussettingsdirectlyonthekeyboardwithoutneedingtocalluptheconfigurationmenu.

TheKEYSbuttonallowsyoutodeactivate/activatetheWindowskeys.Forinstance,youcanavoidaccidentallycallinguptheWindowsStartmenuwhengaming.Whendeactivated,theLEDonthefarrightabovetheWindowsflagwillgoout.

TheLIGHTbuttonisusedtoadjustthekeyboardilluminationsettings.Bypressingthebutton,youcyclebetweentheROCCATlogo,toLCDbrightnesstoLCDcontrastthroughtokeyillumination.Ifyou’dliketochangethesebrightness/contrastsettings,usethe‘-’buttontoreducethebrightness/contrastlevelorthe‘+’toincreaseit.

YoucanonlyadjustthebrightnessoftheROCCATlogo,theLCDandthekeysviatheconfigurationmenu.

YoucanadjustthemastervolumeofyourcomputerusingVOL-and+.PresstheMUTEbuttonwhenyouwanttocompletelymutethesound.

In-gameMacroRecording(Mreckey)

TheLEDsabovetheLCDindicatewhichfunctionsarecurrentlyactivated.AlongwiththestandardLEDsforNum,CapsandScrollLock,thereisalsoaPROGLED.ThisilluminateswhenyoupresstheMreckeyandthekeyboardisreadytorecordamacro.

TheLCDguidesyouthroughtheprocessofrecordingamacro.Firstofall,enteranameforyourmacro(Entersetname)andconfirmthisbypressing‘Enter’.Thenenterasubname(Entersubname)andpress‘Enter’again.Nowchooseamacrokey(Choosemacrokey)andenterthekeycombination(Macrokeyinput)whichthemacroshouldcontain.Toconfirm,presstherelevantmacrokeyagain.Themacroisnowsavedtothekey.Tocancelmacrorecording,presstheEsckey.

The ‘Main Control’ tab in the configuration menu provides you with information on the functions of the macro and additional keys and allows you to reassign functions to macro keys.

Forinstance,youcanswitchthefunctionsoftheMrecandEsckeyssothatyoudon’taccidentallypresstheMreckeyinsteadoftheEsckeyoutofhabit.

Note: As soon as you’ve configured a setting you can assign the function to the keyboard by clicking the ‘Apply’ button without having to exit the ROCCAT menu. It may take a few seconds until the information is transferred to the keyboard. Once you’re done configuring the keyboard settings, click ‘Ok’. You can exit the configuration menu by clicking ‘Cancel’.

Standardkeyboardlayout

LocatedbeneaththeMrecbuttonisthemacropausebutton,whichyouusetopauseandcontinueamacroduringplayback,andthemacrokillbuttonwhichstopsamacro.

DirectlybeneaththosearetheprofilekeysM-1toM-5forprofiles1-5.

LayerkeysL1toL4arelocatedontherightbeneaththeLCD.Theseallowyoutoswitchbetweenthelayerswithinaprofile.

Bydefault,theupperrowofthe30-keymacroblockisassignedwithShift+charactersandnumbersfromthetop-mostrowofastandardkeyboard,andthelowerrowwithCtrl+charactersandnumbersofthetop-mostrowofkeys.

Locatednexttothosearethehotkeysforlaunchingthecalculator(M13),MyComputer(M14),theemailprogram(M13)andtheinternetbrowser(M14)aswellassixmultimediakeysforopeningandcontrollingthemultimediaplayer.

Changingkeyfunctions

Itisalsopossibletoassigndifferentfunctionsandmacrostothese41keys.Intheconfigurationmenu,simplyclickonthekeywhichyouwanttoreassign,searchforthefunctionyouwantfromthedropdownmenuandconfirmtheassignmentbyclicking‘Apply’.

Profiles

Youcanalsoassignprofiles1to5tooneofthemacrokeys.

Assignashortcut

Youcanassignashortcuttotheselectedkeyusingthe‘Assignashortcut’option.YoucancombinetheCtrl,Shift,AltandWindowskeyswithanyotherkeyandassignittoasinglekey.

‘Assignashortcut’alsogivesyoutheopportunitytoremapkeys.Todothat,select‘None’andpressthekeywhosefunctionyou’dliketoremap.Forinstance,youcanremapmotionkeyswhichyouneedduringthegame,suchasYforrunandspacebarforjump,nexttothemacrokeysforyourridingorflyingmounts,andsoarrangeallthefunctionsthatareimportanttoyouintoclearcategories.

Standard

Setsthekeyfunctionbacktoitsdefaultsetting.

Deactivate

Selectingthe‘Deactivate’optionforakeydisablesitsfunction.

Email

Assigningthe‘Email’functiontoakeyallowsyoutoopenyouremailprogramatasinglepress.

AssignMacro

Youcanofcourseassignamacroyouhaveprogrammedyourselftoanykeyusing‘AssignMacro’.Todothat,eitherusethein-gamemacrorecordingfunctiondescribedaboveortheMacroManager.

MacroManager

To access the Macro Manager, select the ‘Main Control’ tab. Then click on the key you want to assign a macro to and select the ‘Assign Macro’ option. The ‘Create New Macro’ option in the dropdown menu that appears will take you straight to the Macro Manager.

TheMacroManagerconsistsofthreeareas:onthefarleftyoucanselect,addordeleteamacrosetoranindividualmacro(MacroSelect);inthemiddleareathe‘MacroBasicEditor’displaysthekeycombination;andfinally,thestartandstopbuttons(StartRecord)arelocatedintheright-handarea.

Torecordamacro,youfirstneedtocreateamacroset.Amacrosetisagroupwhichcomprisesmultipleindividualmacros.Themacrosetonlyservestogiveabetteroverviewoftheindividualmacros.Youcanonlyassignasinglemacrotoakey,notanentireset.

AssoonasmacroshavebeensavedusingGameProfiles,itdoesn’tmatterwhichcomputerthekeyboardisconnectedto;themacroscanbecalledupatanytime.

Creatingamacro(BasicEditor)

Step1:

Clicktheupperlineintheleft-handwindow.Inthefollowingdropdownmenuyoucanaddamacroset(AddMacroSet)ordeleteone(DeleteMacroSet).Click‘AddMacroSet’.

Step2:

Nameyourmacroset.Tomakethingsclearer,useageneralnamefortheactionsinthegameyou’replaying.Forexample,youcannametheset‘Magicbuffs’or‘Weaponsarsenal’.

Step3:

Whenyouclick‘New’,whichislocatedbeneaththeleft-handwindow,youcanassignanametotheindividualmacro,suchas‘Arcanerotation’or‘Sniperrifle’.Confirmthenamebypressingthereturnkey.

Note: Two actions are performed when pressing a key: pressing and releasing. For example, the key combination Alt+Ctrl+t comprises 6 actions.

Step4:

Nowyoucanenteramacro.Todothat,clickthe‘StartRecord’buttonintheright-handwindow.Enterthekeycombinationwhichyouneedforaspecialactioninthegame.

The‘Recorddelaysbetweenkeycommands’optionislocatedundertherecordbutton.Thisoptionallowsyoutospecifyhowlongacertainkeyshouldbepressedfor.Forinstance,thisallowsyoutocreateamacrowhichmakesacharacterinthegameperformaspecificactiononlyafterapre-determinedtime.

Step5:

Click‘StopRecord’whenyou’vefinishedenteringyourkeycombinationviathekeyboard.Youcannoweitherrecordanadditionalmacrointhemacrosetyou’vecreatedorcreateanewmacroset.

Click‘OK’whenyou’redone.Themacrowillnowbeavailableforeachofthe41keys.Youcanassignthemacrotoakeybygoingtothe‘ButtonAssignment’window,clickingnexttothekeyyouwanttoexecutethemacrowithandselectingthe‘AssignMacro’optionfromthedropdownmenu.Allthemacrosetsyouhavecreatedwillnowbedisplayedfromwhichyoucansearchfortheindividualmacroyouwanttouse.

Step6:

Youcanassignthefunctiontothekeyboardbypressingthe‘Apply’buttonwithouthavingtoexittheROCCATmenu.Itmaytakeafewsecondsuntiltheinformationistransferredtothekeyboard.

Youcannowstoreandsavethesesettingsunderoneofthefiveprofilesthatcanbestoredonthekeyboard.Profileswillbeeasiertomanageifyounamethemafterthegame,gamerorprogram.

Note:If you’ve edited a macro that’s already been assigned, you have to reassign it to the desired key.

Note: A macro that is currently running can be stopped at any time by pressing the key again.

Integratedmouseclicks

Another special feature of the ROCCAT driver is that it allows you to include mouse clicks in a macro along with keyboard commands. You can program a mouse action to be executed after, before or between a key sequence.

Todothat,in‘MacroBasicManager’selectthekeycommandbeforeorafterwhichyouwanttoinsertanewaction.Awindowwithvariousoptionswillopenwhenyouclicktherightmousebutton:

StartRecordbefore:startsmacrorecordingbeforetheselectedaction.

StartRecordafter:startsmacrorecordingaftertheselectedaction.

InsertDelay:manuallylengthenorshortenthedelaybetweentwocommands.

InsertMouseEvent:Specifyherewhichmouseactionistobeexecuted.Thefollowingoptionsareavailable:

LeftButton

RightButton

Wheel

SideButton1

SideButton2

Down:keepsthebuttonpressed

Up:releasesthebutton

Click:executesthecommands‘Down’and‘Up’insuccession.

EditDelay:youcanmanuallylengthenorshortenthedelayhere.Youdon’tneedtoenterthetimedesignationof‘ms’(milliseconds),justthedesiredtime.

Delete:deletetheselectedstepfromthemacro’skeysequence.

Note:Three actions are always available for selection: ‘Down’, ‘Up’ and ‘Click’.

Note:Some games are unable to detect short delays.

Switchtoadvancededitor

Inthecenterwindowyoucanmanuallychangethetimeintervalsbetweentheindividualkeypressesforaparticularmacro.Individualbluebarsindicatehowlongtherespectivekeyispressedfor.Alongwiththeduration,youcanalsochangethepositionofthepressedkeyhere.Thedefaulttimelineisinmilliseconds:(0.05/0.10/0.15…seconds).

Youcanchangethetimescaleofthedisplayforincreasedaccuracy.Youcanzoomintothescaletoconfigurethetimevaluesreallypreciselyusingtheplusbuttonontheright-handsideabovethewindow.Itisalsopossibletodeleteoraddindividualmacros.Todothat,clickthepointinthemacrolistwhereyouwanttoinsertanadditionalmacroandthenclick‘Add’.Ifyouwanttodeleteakey,clickthekeyandthenclick‘Del’.Confirmtheprocessbyclicking‘Ok’.

Itisalsopossibletodeleteentiremacrosets.Todothat,youneedtoselect‘DeleteMacroSet’inthedropdownmenu.Heretoo,youneedtoconfirmfinaldeletionoftheset,andallthemacrosassignedtoit,byclicking‘Ok’.


GAmE PROfiLES/PROfiLE-�-GO

Creating/savingaprofile

Youcancreateoneoffiveprofilesusing‘Createaprofile’.Hereyoucanlinkfourlayerswiththe*.exefileoftheparticulargame.Thisallowsyoutosaveallthekeyassignments,macrosorLCDsettingsthatyou’veadaptedtoagametoasinglelayer.ThisisworthdoingforinstancewhenyouwanttocreateaprofileforWorldofWarcraft®with4differentcharacters.Givethefourlayersaname,suchasPriest,Rogue,HunterandWitchmaster,linkthemtolauncher.exeandsavethemacrosyouneedforthecharacterineachlayer.Youcannowswitchbetweenlayersinthegameandhaveallthemacrosreadytohandwhichyouhaveassignedtotherelevantcharacter.

ProfileSlot#5

Alongwiththefourprofilesthatcanbesavedontheharddrive,youcanalsosaveanotherprofile,theProfile-2-Go,onthekeyboarditself.Bydoingthis,youalwayshaveacompleteprofilewithyouifyouneedtotakeyourkeyboardanywhere.

SimplyclickontheharddrivesymbolnexttoProfileSlot#5andselect‘Keyboard’asthe‘StorageType’forthelayeryouwanttosave.Itusuallytakesalittlewhileforyoursettingstobetransferredandstoredonthekeyboard.

Ifthedrivershaven’tbeeninstalled,suchasonsomeoneelse’scomputer,thekeyboardwillautomaticallyswitchtotheProfile-2-Go.Consequently,itisn’tpossibletoswitchtooneoftheother4profiles;todothat,thedriverfirstneedstobeinstalledandthenadditionalprofilescreatedorloaded.

LoadProfile

Youcanloadtheprofilesstoredontheharddrive,andalsotheProfile-2-Gostoredonthekeyboard,atanytimeeitherusingthisoptionintheconfigurationmenu,orviatheM-1toM-5keys.Usethelayerstoswitchbetweenexecutablefiles.Itisn’tpossibletoswitchbetweenprofileswithinarunningapplication.

Youcanalsosavemorethan5profilesonyourharddriveandloadfiveoftheseinthedriverasprofiles1-5asyouwish.Forexample,thisallowsyoutoretainolderprofilesoryourfriendscangiveyouprofileswhichyoucanthenuseonyourkeyboard.Itisonlypossibletoswitchbetweenthefiveprofilescurrentlyloadedinthedriver.

EditProfile

Hereyoucaneditthenamesandthelinksoftheselectedprofileandyourlayers.Usethecorrectlinkssothatthekeyboardautomaticallydetectstheprogramyouhaveprogrammedspecifickeyboardsettingsormacrosfor.


bRiGhTNESS CONTROL

YoucanadjustthebrightnessoftheROCCATlogo,theLCDandthekeysinfivestagesunderthistab.Slidethecontrollertotherighttoincreasebrightness,andtothelefttodecreasebrightness.

Inaddition,youcanalsosaveenergybyusingthe‘KeyLightEnergySaving’and‘KeyLightTimeOut’options.With‘KeyLightEnergySaving’youcansettheilluminationtodimby50%after5to15minutes.With‘KeyLightTimeOut’,theilluminationwillswitchoffcompletelyafterthedefinedtime.

Note:Don’tforgettoconfirmchangesbyclicking‘Apply’.

LCDDisplayOutput–Row1/Row2

HereyoucanselectwhatshouldbedisplayedontheValo’sLCD.6itemsofinformationareavailableforeachrow.Youcanselect3oftheseforeachrowandspecifydowntothesecondunder‘DisplayCycleSpeed’howlonganitemofinformationshouldbedisplayedforuntilthedisplayswitchestothenextitem.

ThefollowinginformationcanbedisplayedontheLCD:

Date/Time

Under‘DateFormatSettings’,youcandecidewhatformatthedateisdisplayedin.SelectwhetheryouwantitdisplayedasYear/Month/DayorDay/Month/Year,withorwithouthyphens.

Youcanalsosetthefollowingunder‘TimeFormatSetting’:

HH:MM

HH:MM(AM/PM)(12hourclock)

CPU/RAMLoad

Furthermore,youcanalsochoosetohavetheLCDdisplaythe‘CPULoad’aswellasthe‘RAMLoad’.

Profile/Layer

Sothatyouneverloseyouroverview,select‘Profile/Layer’asoneoftheitemstobedisplayed.Thisshowsyouwhatprofileandwhichlayeryou’recurrentlyin.

Email

Youcandisplaythenumberofemailsyouhaveinyourinboxunderthe‘Email’option.Forthis,youneedtoenteryouremailaccount’sPOP3settings.Ifyoudon’tknowthem,askyouremailproviderfortherelevantPOP3settingsandyourcustomernumber/username.

‘CheckInterval’allowsyoutodefinehowoftentheValochecksandupdatestheLCDifnewemailshavebeenreceived.

Skype®

SelectthisoptionifyouwanttoseeifsomeonehassentyouaSkype®message.Whenyoufirstselectthisoption,youwillbenotifiedthattheValoisattemptingtoaccessyourSkype®account.AllowaccessifyouwanttodisplaySkype®informationonyourLCD.

Deactivate

Select‘Deactivate’whenyoudon’twanttoreceiveanynotifications;therowswillthenremainblankforthedefinedperiod.

RestoreDefaults

Ifyoucheck‘EnableOn-ScreenDisplay’,theprofileandlayeryou’recurrentlyin,andwhichmacroyou’recurrentlyexecuting,willalwaysbedisplayeddirectlyonthebottomright-handsideofthemonitorwheneveryourpressoneoftheprofilekeysM-1toM-5,thelayerkeysL1toL4oroneofthemacrokeys.

ProfileandlayerinformationwillalsobedisplayedontheLCDatthesametime,asmanygamesblockon-screendisplays.

I’munabletoopentheconfigurationmenu.

Iftheconfigurationmenudoesn’topenviathetaskbarorStartmenu,openthefolderwhereyouinstalledthedriverandclickonValoOption.exe.

Mykeyboardisnotdetected.

PlugthekeyboardintothesameUSBportitwasconnectedtowhenyoufirstinstalledthedriver.Thisensuresthecomputercandetectthekeyboard.

Ican’tswitchbetweenprofileswithinanapplication/game.

Youcan’tswitchfromoneprofiletoanotherwhileinsidearunningapplication.Youcan,however,definefourlayersineachprofile.It’spossibletoswitchbetweenthesewheninagame.

Myon-screendisplayisnolongerdisplayedingames.

Manygamesblocktheon-screendisplay.However,thesameinformationprovidedbytheOSDisalsodisplayedontheLCD.
