• The Radio Key 600 is a programmable single-door Stand Alone access control system

• It contains a proximity reader and a 16 position keypad for programming and PIN entry

RKAR: Auxiliary Reader

• Optional, but is recommended for extreme weather or higher security applications. A gasket is provided for exterior installation

• It parallels to the internal antenna in the RK600 or RK600e

• It contains a bi-color LED indicator and a beeper which is controlled by the RK600 or RK600e

• When mounted on the secure side of the door, access cannot be obtained by tampering

Avoiding RF Interference

When mounting the RK600, or the RK600e connected with the Auxiliary Reader on opposite sides of a wall, offset the units by about 6” for the best reading distance.

Do not locate two RK600 units closer than two (2) feet apart.

Do not locate the RK600 or RKAR within two (2) feet of a PC Monitor or CPU enclosure, or any other source of EMI (electro-magnetic interference) such as radio transmitters, elevators, large electric motors or fluorescent ballasts.

RKAR: Wire InstallationA short cable assembly extends from the back of the Auxiliary Reader. This cable may be Extended up to 30 feet Maximum. Use two separate cables.

Cable one: must be unshielded, non-twisted two conductor wire (zip cord recommended), to the antenna coil, pins 1 & 2.

Cable two: must be 4-conductor shielded connected to the LED’s, beeper, and VCC, pins 3 – 6, and connect the cable shield to GND on P1 pin 2 at the RK600 / 600e unit.

Basic InstallationEach unit (RK600 / RK600e or RKAR) consists of two parts:1 Mounting Plate2 Housing Orient the mounting plate with the threaded

insert at the bottom: attach it to a single gang J box or attach directly to the wall surface, using anchor screws or toggle bolts.

For exterior applications, install the thick gasket between the wall or mounting surface and the back of the mounting plate.

Pull the cable ends through the access hole in the mounting plate. Connect plug P1to socket J1 on the RK600 / 600e units.

Attach the housing to the mounting plate. Secure by installing the Phillips or Hex Socket tamper-proof screw (supplied) into the hole at the bottom.

RK-BB Back Box /Spacerused with RK600 / RK600e / RKAR

• The Optional Spacer extends the RK600 / 600e / RKAR out from the mounting surface and provides additional room for wiring

• It also helps to minimize the loss of reading distance caused by mounting the unit directly on a metal surface.

• The spacer can also be used on non-metallic surfaces to provide additional room for wiring connections.

RK-GM

If the RK600 / 600e or Auxiliary Reader must be concealed, the RK-GM glass mount kit can be used to permanently adhere the unit to the back of a glass window.

The RK-GM consists of two parts: a large PVC sheet which adheres to the inside of the window, and a smaller adhesive sheet that is used to affix the RK600 / 600e mounting plate to the larger sheet.

To allow wires to exit the reader housing, remove the small knockout(s) on the bottom of the housing by prying out with small pliers.

Basic OperationTo use a Card or Key Tag with Radio Key® 600 / 600e, simply hold the Transponder near the Unit or optional Auxiliary Reader. The RK600 / 600e Unit and the Auxiliary Reader generates an RF field, which causes the Card or Key Tag to transmit a unique Transponder ID Number back to the Unit.

If the Transponder ID Number is stored in memory, the latch relay is activated, unlocking the controlled door or gate and shunting any external alarms. A green light and a beep indicates that access is granted.

If the Transponder ID Number is not stored in memory, the door or gate remains locked and a red light and three rapid beeps indicate that access denied. Otherwise the LED is normally off.

NOTE: If five incorrect PINs (or passwords) are entered, the Unit will sound an alarm and display a red LED for 30 seconds, then return to normal mode.

Basic Operation

Card ID Numbers• Key tags and cards are pre-encoded and engraved at

the factory with unique Card ID numbers• Cards will not function until Card ID numbers are

programmed into the Unit• You may assign either a Card Number or a PIN code to

each User Number (1 through 600)• Record the user number and assigned card or PIN in the

User Log Sheet• If you attempt to enter a PIN or card ID for a given user,

and that user number already has been assigned, the Unit will flash the LED red and beep three times (error code)

It is recommended that you record all the Transponder ID numbers or PIN Codes to the User Log Sheet provided with the Unit, and keep this information in a secure place.

A blank copy of the User Log Sheet has been included with the Unit. Do not write on this form: Use it as a photocopy master.

RK-600 Programming

As you press each key, the reader will chirp to indicate that it has understood the command.

The RK-600’s built in keypad is used to program the Unit, and the RK-HHP is used to program the RK-600e.

Lost or Forgotten Password

A lost or forgotten password can be restored back to the factory default of (12345):

Disconnect the power to the Unit.

Remove the unit from the mounting bracket.

Press and Hold the reset button located on the circuit board.

Turn on the power while the reset button is still pressed.

Reinstall the Unit to the mounting bracket.

This will reset the Unit to the factory default password of 12345.

A red light and three beeps means a Transponder has already been stored for the selected User Number. Just delete the selected User Number or select a new User Number.

Add a Series of TranspondersBy Holding them near the Unit

If one or more Transponders are already entered into the User Number range you have selected, a red light and three beeps will occur, in which case, you must select a different range, or you must delete the entire range before proceeding.

Delete a Transponder By Entering the Transponder ID

A green light and beep means that the transponder (995) was deleted.

Operating Modes

The RK600 may be set into any of three operating modes:

Mode 1, Active (Normal) LED is off A valid card or closure of the Remote Open input will activate the relay for the user-configured latch time.

Mode 2, Inactive (locked) LED blinks Red This deactivates the reader. No card can activate the relay, but the Remote Open input will activate the relay for the user configured latch time.

Mode 3, Door Unlocked LED blinks Green The relay remains activated (door unlocked).

Set the Operating Mode

The Access Control Unit will exit Programming Mode and enter the selected Mode.

Request to ExitTo use the Request to Exit (REX) feature, connect a Normally Open momentary switch to the Orange and Brown wires. You can connect a pushbutton switch, or a Request to Exit PIR.

While the switch is closed the relay will activate, the LED will turn solid green, then when the switch is released, the Latch Timer starts, and the relay will deactivate after the latch time expires

Cannot Enter Program Mode

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

a. Default Password (12345) has been changed:

If the unit has already been operational, then the default password could have been changed. If the password is lost or forgotten, it can be restored to the factory default of (12345).

Remove the Unit from the mounting plate.

Turn off power to the Unit.

Press and Hold the reset button located in the middle near the top of the circuit board, and restore the power with the button pushed.

The default password of 12345 has now been restored to the Unit.

Cards do not Unlock the DoorPOSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. The LED flashes Red and causes 3 beeps:

The card is not programmed into the unit as valid.

Enter the program mode.Enter any program sequence to Add a Card and verify the following:

A green light and a beep means that the Transponder was accepted.

A red light and three beeps means a Transponder has already been stored for the selected User Number. Just delete the selected User Number (it is already taken) or select a new User Number.

b. The LED flashes Green once and beeps:

The relay might not be energizing, the power supply for the lock is bad, or the lock is bad:

To test the relay perform the following test:

Disconnect the lock wiring from the unit.Connect an Ohm meter to the same contacts the lock was connected to.

Short the Orange and Brown wires (Remote Open) from the unit, and verify that the relay changes state:

If it does change, the relay is good and you will need to check the lock power supply, wiring, or the lock.

If it does not change, the relay is bad and the unit needs to be replaced.

Cards do not Unlock the Door

LED Solid Green

a. The LED is solid green and the door is unlocked.

The input: Orange and Brown wires, or (REX) switch are shorted:

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

Remove the short or disconnect the switch and the LED will turn off the and the door will lock. All valid cards will unlock the door again.

LED Flashing Red or Green

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. If the LED is flashing red:

The Unit is in the Inactive (Locked) mode, the door is locked, and no validcards work. To restore the Unit back to the Normal Mode:

The LED will stop flashing, the door will lock, and all valid cards will now work.

b. If the LED is flashing Green:

The Unit is in the Door Unlocked Mode, the door is unlocked. To restore the Unit back into the Normal Mode:

Constant Beeping

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

If the Unit beeps and will not turn off (until repowering), check the following:

a. The power supply is noisy: Try a new power supply, or connect a 12v battery, if the beeping stops.

Replace the power supply.

b. If a common power supply is being used for the Unit and Lock:Add separate power supplies for the Unit and lock.

PIN Code does not Unlock the Door

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. The LED does nothing, no response :

The PIN Code was entered wrong.

To use a PIN Code with the RK600: you must enter the User Number and then the four digit Pin Code, followed by the

To gain entry using this PIN Code enter the following:

PIN Code does not Unlock the Door

RK-AT No CommunicationsPOSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. The PC must have either com port’s 1 or 2.

If the PC does not have a com port, you can use a USB to RS232 adaptor. During the installation of this adaptor it must be setup as com port 1 or 2.

b. Verify the wiring.

Note: The cable length for the RK-AT is approx 12 inches. If you need to extend the wire (up to 300 feet, 4 conductor shielded, 18 guage) just cut the AT cable in the middle and splice this cable in-between.

RK-AT No Communications

c. The default (12345) Password in the reader may have been changed.

If the unit has already been operational, then the default password could have been changed. If the password is lost or forgotten, it can be restored to the factory default of (12345).

RK-AT No Communications

d. The com port on the PC or the RK-AT could be bad.

Try connecting a different PC with RK-Link installed to see if you can communicate.

If communications have been restored, then the com port on the PC is bad.

If there are still no communications, then the RK-AT is bad and needs to be replaced.
