Installation• Run cables to the unit location from power supply, door

locking device and remote open switch.

• 18AWG stranded wire is recommended.

• For Remote Open (REX) input, use a momentary Normally Open switch, or an Exit PIR.

• Relay operation defaults to Normally Open, but a Maglock requires the relay to be reconfigured as Normally Closed.

• Always use separate power supplies for the electric lock and access control reader.

• MOV and Lock Power Supply not required when connected to a Gate Operator logic board.

Mullion Installation

Drill holes as required.

Feed cable through 3/4” hole.

Make wiring connections with splice connectors or wire nuts.

Mount reader with two #6 screws (self-tapping, provided).

Snap label insert into front of unit.

Switch Plate Installation Diagram

Secure by installing the supplied screw (Security or Phillips) into the hole at thebottom of the unit.

Drill holes in mounting surface or use a ‘Single-Gang J-Box’.

Feed cable through 3/4” hole.

Make wiring connections using splice connectors or wire nuts.

Attach the mounting plate to the mounting surface with the appropriate fasteners (provided).

Attach the housing to the mounting plate by inserting the two tabs inside the top of the housing into the two slots at the top of the mounting plate.

Card Types

• ISO printable cards: RKCI-02

• Molded cards: RKCM-02

• Key tags: RKKT-02

There are 3 different types of cards and keytags which can be used with the RK-65K unit:

Card ID Numbers

• Cards will not function until the Card ID number is programmed into the unit

• Card ID Numbers range from 1 to 65535, and are unique for each individual cardholder in the system

Facility Codes• Cards and Tags used with the RK65K are factory encoded

with a Facility Code number and a Card ID Number.• Facility Code is a number ranging from 0-255 for 26-bit

cards or 0-16383 for 32 bit cards.• The RK65K cannot be programmed until Facility Codes

are programmed into the unit.• All cards at a particular site should have the same Facility

Code. This makes the site unique, and prevents someone with similar cards from another site from gaining access.

• RK65K allows up to 10 facility codes to be stored, in the event that cards from multiple sites are merged.

• When a card is read, the Facility Code is checked first – if it is stored in the reader, then the Card ID is checked.

RK-HHP Programmer

As you press each key, the unit will chirp to indicate that it has understood the command.

The RK-HHP programmer is required to program the RK65K card reader. One RK-HHP can be used for multiple units.

New Installation

Present a card or keytag to the unit, the reader will beep.The LED should stop flashing in about 15 seconds.

The first time you power up the unit, the LED will be flashing red and green. This means that you must set the facility code before you can start to program the unit.

Programming ModeTo enter the Program Mode:Use the RK-HHP:Enter your password (default 12345).Press “ENTER”.

To Change your Password:Put the unit into the Program mode.Press THRU, Enter the desired new password (exactly 5 digits). Press THRU again and repeat the new password.Press ENTER again.

The LED will flash an amber color to let you know that you are in the programming mode.

Lost or Forgotten PasswordA lost or forgotten password can be restored to the factory default (12345).

Short the white and brown wires, and restore power.

This will set the password back to the factory default (12345).

Disconnect power to the unit.

Disconnect the white and brown wires, and reinstall the unit.

Adding Facility Codes

To add more Facility Codes (up to 10): Enter Programming mode.Press Mode.Press “9”.Press Enter.

The LED will flash Red/Green. Present one user card for each Facility Code being used. Allow the unit to time out (LED stops flashing) and return to the Normal Mode.

Existing Installation: You may be required to add additional Facility Codes due to merging locations.

Setting the Latch TimerSet the Latch Timer:Place the unit into the Program mode. Press SET TIMER.Then enter the desired Latch Time (0-65535 seconds).Press ENTER.

For longer Latch Times it will be easier to set the timer with an hour/minute notation: Place the unit into the program mode:Press SET TIMER.Then enter the number of hours (2 digits). Then enter the number of minutes (2 digits).Press the THRU key. Press ENTER (the maximum relay time is 18 hours).

Operating ModesThe RK-65K may be set into any of four operating modes:

Mode 1, Active (Normal) LED is off A valid card or closure of the Remote Open input will activate the relay for the user-configured latch time.

Mode 2, Inactive (locked) LED blinks Red This deactivates the reader. No card can activate the relay, but the Remote Open input will activate the relay for the user configured latch time.

Mode 3, Door Unlocked LED blinks Green The relay remains activated (door unlocked).

Mode 4, Toggle Mode LED is off When a valid card is presented or the Remote Open input is closed, the relay changes and maintains its state until another valid card is presented or the Remote Input is activated.

Set Operating ModeSetting the Operating Mode:Place the unit into the Program Mode.Press MODE.Then press either 1, 2, 3, or 4.Press ENTER.

When the unit exits the programming mode, it will enter the selected mode.

Setting Timed AntipassbackTimed Antipassback: is used to discourage card sharing.

After one successful card use, the reader will treat that card as Void for a Defined number of minutes (up to 99 minutes).

When Timed Antipassback is enabled, it will apply to All Valid Cards.

Two steps are required to set Anti-Passback:

1. Enable Anti-Passback2. Set the Anti-Passback Timer value

Enable Timed Antipassback:Place the reader into the Program Mode. Press SET TIMER.Press ADD.Press ENTER.

Timed AntipassbackSet Antipassback Timer:Place the unit into the Program Mode. Press SET TIMER.Press THRU. Then enter the number of minutes (15).Press ENTER.

Disable Timed Antipassback:Place the unit into the Program Mode.Press SET TIMER.Press VOID.Press ENTER.

Configure Relay N/O or N/CThe relay is set at the factory to be Normally Open, but it may be changed to Normally Closed.

A Normally Open relay: is for a “fail-secure” electric lock or door strike and to trigger a gate operator.

A Normally Closed relay: is for “fail-safe” devices such as Magnetic Locks.

To configure the relay: Place the reader into the Program Mode. Press THRU two times.Then press either 6 or 7.Press ENTER.

Selections are:6 Normally Open (Factory default)7 Normally Closed

Request to ExitTo use the Request to Exit (REX) feature:Connect a Normally Open momentary switch to the Orange and Brown wires. You can connect a pushbutton switch, or a Request to Exit PIR

While the switch is closed the relay will stay activated and the LED will turn on solid green, then when the switch is released, the Latch Timer starts, and the relay will deactivate after the Latch Time expires.

Wiegand OutputThe RK-65K can be connected to the SK-ACP system or any other multidoor access control system, which has a Wiegand input.

When any Radio Key card or keytag is presented to the unit, the Card ID and facility code will be transmitted via the White (data 1) and Green (data 0) wires.

When the RK-65K unit is connected to a larger access control system, the local card memory will still operate the relay which can be used for degraded mode or other special functions.

LED Is Flashing Red/Green

b. No Beep LED is still flashing:

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. No facility code has been programmed into the unit:

Present a card or keytag. You should hear a beep, then the LED will stop flashing within 10 seconds.

Check the card or keytag type, they must be one of the following:

Cannot Enter Program Mode

No facility code has been programmed into the unit. Present a card. You will hear a beep, then the LED will stop flashing within 15 seconds

If the unit has already been operational, then the default password could have been changed, if the password is lost or forgotten, it can be restored to the factory default (12345).

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. If LED is flashing red and green:

b. Default Password (12345) has been changed:

White

Brown

Remove the Rk65K unit from the wall, and disconnect power.Short the white and brown wires, then restore the power.Disconnect the white and brown wires and reinstall the unit.

The factory default password (12345) will now be in effect.

c. If LED Is Solid Green:

The remote open input switch is turned on (or the brown & orange wires are shorted). Just open the switch or remove the short.

Cards Do Not Unlock The Door

The cards or keytags have not been programmed into the unit.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

a. If the Unit beeps, then the LED flashes Red:

To add A Card or Keytag To The Reader

Place the unit into the Program Mode.Press ADD.Then enter the card ID Number (12).Press Enter.

To Add A Range Of Cards or Keytags into The Unit:

Place the unit into the Program Mode. Press ADDThen enter the Lowest Card Number (1).Press ThruThen enter the Highest Card Number (10).Press Enter.

New Cards Do Not Unlock DoorAfter They Have Been Programmed

Then you need to verify you have the proper card type, or try another card, it could be bad.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. If the Unit does not beep when a card or keytag is presented:

b. If Unit beeps, but LED does not flash red or green, then the facility code is different from original cards:

You may be required to add additional Facility Codes due to merging locations or just by adding new cards with a different facility code.

MagLock Does Not Lock

The Relay needs to be normally closed for a magnetic lock. To configure the Relay to be normally closed:

Place the unit into the Program mode.Press THRU, THRU.Then press 7 (for normally closed).Press Enter.

Possible selections are: 6 - relay contact Normally Open for Door Strike 7 - relay contact Normally Closed for Magnetic Lock.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

a. Relay contacts are set to be normally open ‘ N/O’ (factory default):

LED is Blinking Red or Green

The unit is in the Inactive (locked) Mode. No valid cards can unlock the door. To restore the unit back to the Normal Mode:

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

a. If the LED is blinking Red:

Place the unit into the program modePress ModePress 1Press Enter

b. If the LED is blinking Green:

The unit is in the Door Unlocked Mode. To restore the reader back to the Normal Mode

Door Does Not Unlock for a Valid Card Read (Green LED)

OhmMeter

Test the Relay by disconnecting the door lock wires, then connect an ohmmeter to the blue and yellow wires.

Short the orange and brown wires (remote open) and verify that the relay changes state.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

a. The relay is not energizing:

If the relay does not change states, then the reader must be replaced.
